When Noise is Good for Lights!

11:21 pm in Electricity, Green, Outdoor, Sound by Radhika-Seth

C’mon noise can never be good or pleasant for anything! This pollutant give me enough grief when they tear down an old building and bring in them drill machines and saws! The only way I’m going to like them is if something useful like sound harvesting is done! Something like the Eco Noise, where these special tiles absorb the noise and convert it to energy to power up the gates with mesmerizing lights display. The idea is sweet, but I’d much rather power just one lamp than have a fancy fence.

The Eco Noise is a Lotus Prize entry.

"Ecooler" Hollow Ceramic Tile System Inspired By Indian "Jalis"

8:33 pm in Architecture, General by Tanya

Those who have an interest in Indian history and architecture would be familiar with the "Jali" concept. "Jali walls," are essentially perforated walls that were used to cool and ventilate houses in olden times and even now can be spotted in villages and rural areas. It is clear that the "Ecooler" which is a system of hollow ceramic tiles by Mey Kahn and Boaz Kahn seek inspiration from this traditional Indian practice. Interestingly the designers also market their product as a cooling system thats cools a room by running water through its channels.Sometimes you need to look at the past for inspiration, to create a better future!

Franco Pecchioli’s Green Vibrations Collection Pays Tribute To Mother Nature

9:26 pm in Bathroom, Bathroom Design & Furniture, Modern Furniture by Tanya

Franco Pecchioli's Green Vibrations Collection embraces the color green wholeheartedly to pay homage to Mother Nature. The Italian tile company show a predilection towards ceramics since they believe in the mantra "La ceramica riscopre la natura come leitmotiv" which roughly translates into "Ceramics rediscover nature as a key theme." Since an illusion of nature has to be recreated in the bathroom, Pecchioli opts for a striking color palette of gold, deep emerald and black and uses various sizes of tiles to achieve a wondrous look.

ALLOY Metal Tiles Collection By Karim Rashid

2:57 am in General by Tanya

The inimitable Karim Rashid with his ALLOY Metal Tiles Collection has done what he does best, creating Quixotical designs that border on the revolutionary. The patterned rich collection ups the ante with its almost 3D surface that may repeat in a predictable manner but at the same time contradicts the good old square tile.
