Handrails That Speak

10:35 pm in 未分类 by Radhika-Seth

With their guide stick in one hand and a firm grip on the handrail, the visually challenged rely on instincts while negotiating a flight of stairs. The Safety Dot is a set of braille indents on a handrail, which makes using the stairs an easier task. I love the thoughtful intent and the simple way it can be integrated.

Staircase Storage Solution Comes to the Rescue of Small Homes

11:41 am in Furniture, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Modern Design, Shelving, Small Home Furniture by chris

Your storage prayers have been answered, particularly if you live in a small home or apartment. The Staircase storage solution is a vertical shelf that has plenty of drawers for you to hide away your stuff that would otherwise clutter the already crowded space you live in. Since the shelf expands vertically rather than horizontally, the Staircase uses "minimal ground square meters" (that's 55 x 74cm), not to mention that it looks good in the process. The Staircase is 2.6 meters high and therefore the bottom three shelves act as a staircase in order for you to reach the top shelves. Worried about safety? Well hold on that side railing there and you should be fine. Via Danny Kuo

Staircase-Shaped House Lets You Go to the Top of the… House

8:23 am in Architecture, Design, Furniture, Home, House, Modern Design by chris

There really aren't that many houses out there that will let you climb all the way to the top of their roofs on a regular basis. But the staircase-shaped house will certainly make sure that, at any time you'd want to, you could actually go on top of the roof and enjoy the view. The roof of the house looks like a flight of stairs and underneath it you'll find plenty of interesting rooms to explore. The staircase-shaped house will let you make the most of natural light during the day while also guarding your privacy. From the looks of it this concept house has lots of space to accommodate all your needs, and it would certainly be a great place to raise a family. Via y+m

Concrete Slide Lets You Skip So Many Stairs

9:51 am in Architecture, Modern Design by chris

Building a slide in your own house can be challenging but with enough imagination and plenty of concrete you'll be able to pull the job in no time. The concrete slide in the modern house presented in the pictures below will help you skip all those stairs when descending, not to mention all the fun it will provide to your kids. The slide is pretty impressive as it will let you spiral down at amazing speeds. Well, okay, maybe you're not going to experience amazing speeds but sliding down will be a lot faster than simply climbing down two flights of stairs. The concrete slide can be currently found in a house in Indonesia made by Aboday Architects, and besides the slide, the house has plenty of other interesting elements. One of them is the staircase, which will still need to be climbed all the way up after each slide. Via Aboday Architects

Staircase/Bookcase Design Has a Double Personality

12:54 pm in Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Shelving by chris

What do you do when you have too many books in print? You either get a Kindle in order to better manage your reading passion, or build yourself an out-of-the-box storage solution like the Staircase/Bookcase project in the images above. It's one of the most efficient designs I've ever seen when it comes to storing book collections, but there are a couple of downsizes too when looking at this bookcase with a double personality. First of all you need a two-story house or apartment, otherwise building such a storage design will lose its second functionality and thus its coolness. But most importantly using the Staircase/Bookcase as an actual staircase might not be something you'll want to do since inevitably, you'll end up getting dirt on some of your favorite titles. Twin Glass Staircase Is Both Dangerous and Entertaining

11:17 pm in Architecture, Design, Glass, Modern Design, Modern Furniture & Design by chris

The following staircase solution is definitely a very interesting choice for modern apartments. I'd be the first one to go up those Twin stairs no matter how dangerous it all seems. Designed by Roberto Volpe, these Twin self-supporting glass stairs are definitely ready to offer an entertaining look for your eyes. But if you have kids around the house then you might want to consider something less dangerous for them. Don't get me wrong; the Twin staircase is made of durable tempered glass and steel supports used to mount each step on the wall. You won't have to worry about their durability, as they will certainly not fail you once mounted on the wall. What's rather troubling is that there's no railing on the other side to hang on to. Singapore Home Remodeling Pictures of 55 Blair Road

6:59 pm in Uncategorized by John

This Singapore home remodeling project was submitted by Ong & Ong Architects showcasing their work on the 55 Blair Road property. The design team consisted of Diego Molina, Maria Arango and Camilo Peleaz. In the example they provided wonderful pictures taken by Derek Swalwell to provide details from each room. My two favorite areas in the home are the pool section and the staircase section. The pool is integrated into the home design and features a Century Frangipani tree native to Singapore which brings a sense of peace and reflection to the area. The spiral staircase is set off beautifully with windows on either side creating a visual experience enhanced by the overall white design of the room. Via.
