Designer Rock Wang with the Cocoon Furniture Collection transports you back to ancient China and pays homage to the historically important Silk Route. As the name suggests, the entire line of furniture has been created from silk, spun by silkworms and each piece took around five days. Wang firmly believes in the mantra "Design By Nature" and thus has incorporated bamboo strips to highlight the organic nature of the collection as well as to provide support.

If Muku was about paying homage to traditional craftsmanship, the "W101" is all about the future! A concept by Swedish lighting company Wästberg, the "W101" task light employes cutting-edge technology in conjunction with a green philosophy and the end result is quite innovative. The task light has been made from a material called "DuraPulp" which for the uninitiated is a mix of paper pulp and starch polymer. Designer Claseeon Koivisto Rune assures of its durability and its ability to withstand heat. Since it integrates white LEDs with asymmetric reflectors and asymmetric diffusers, the task light is also energy efficient. You can catch the "W101" Task Light at the Milan Design Week 2010.

Muku Lanterns at first glance looks out of place in todays A&D scene which is dominated by sleek lines, bright hues and modern styles. However this is intentional by designers Tasuo Yamamoto and Jun Hashimoto and we applaud their move to ignore contemporary rhythm and experiment with traditional styles. The two lanterns have been inspired by traditional japanese lamps called 'Ouchi Andon' but the designer duo have given their own subtle modern twist to them. The lanterns have been made from different materials including aluminum, acrylic a, wood and will be exhibited during the Milan Design Week 2010.

This uber-cool table not only looks good but also takes in consideration our technologically dependent lives. The minimalistically designed table comes with plugs to accommodate our diverse electrical needs! The table top has been manufactured from natural treated oak and the legs from solid natural treated oak. The "Crys" table is the brainchild of Danish-Japanese designer duo, Inoda and Sveje.

At this day and age, we all should adhere to the "Go Green" mantra. Interestingly the A&D field has been able to prove that recycled objects don't necessary translate into ugly. Product designers all over the world are showcasing their commitment to material reclamation by making some stunning sustainable furniture. Case in point, Emeco's 111 Coca Cola Pet Bottles Navy Chair which as the name suggests is made of 111 discarded bottles and according to Emeco they expect to use about 3,000,000 plastic beverage bottles each year in production! The chair is solely made of plastic PET bottles (about 65% post consumer content) and will be exhibiting at the Milan Furniture Fair.
