Recycle That 1st Gen Apple TV

3:59 pm in 未分类 by Long Tran

Got a first generation Apple TV laying around and wondering what to do with it? Daniel Kurt came up with the idea of recycling it into the 1 Nixie Clock. Every structural element is reused along with new components like an integrated nixie controller board and tube holders.. The heavy duty tissue cable doubles as a power cord and wall mount string.

All electronic components in the fully functioning clock are assembled by hand.
Kurth will provide the CNC shapes (for the tube holders and cover plate) for free on request.

Technical specifications:

• Recycled Apple TV 1 body
• 12 / 24 hr mode
• 108 cable connections
• Up to 200.000 hours tube lifespan
• 9 V AC/500mA
• Eco-saver automatic dimming function/automatic OFF
• Auto Detection of 1Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz clock pulse input mode
• DCF77 Module can be added externally
• 6 x Z560M Nixie Tube (unused) running at 170 VDC
• Dimming via push button
• Handmade assembly of all electronic components
• CNC routed tube holders (DIBOND) and cover plate (PVC)
• Made in Luxembourg
• Wallmount possible

Recycled PET Felt Chair, The Pod

10:58 pm in Furniture, Seating by Long Tran

The Pod is a large privacy chair for breakout areas in offices or residential projects. Pod is an environmental alternative to large upholstered furniture. Most upholstered is difficult to recycle as it’s a fixed combination of timber, glue, foam and textile. Pod tackles this by replacing the large upholstery with moulded felt created from recycled pet bottles. In addition the entire design is knock down with the shells stacking for minimum carbon footprint in transportation and storage.

The chair’s ergonomics allow the user to work comfortably whilst feeling relaxed and separated from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It’ creates a room-in-room sexperience with the perimeter of the chair around the users head. The shell of the chair is the largest form ever produced utilizing pressed PET felt technology. This felt allows a distinctive aesthetic as well as offers sound dampening properties to increase the sensation of privacy with acoustic performance.

  • Recycled pet felt
  • Steam bent ash timber
  • Recycled foam cushions with kvadrat upholstery.
  • h 130cm x w 95cm x d 80cm

TryCycle Granada Wine Glass Review

10:07 am in Eco Products, Glass, Wine by Katie Nielsen

Shortly before the holidays, I received a beautiful set of wine glasses from TryCycle, the Granada wine glasses. What makes these glasses unique is they (and all products from TryCycle) are eco-friendly, made entirely from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. Moreover, each one is hand blown by European artisans. Aside from their inherent eco-friendliness, we loved how [...]

Artistic Airplane Trolleys by ND Designworks

6:18 pm in Art, Design, General, food by John

It is always interesting to see what type of objects can be made into artistic statements. These airplane trolleys are the very ones that slow up plane boarding to provide food for passengers. Typically they are pretty beaten up just from the normal wear and tear associated with the airline industry. Andreas Flach from ND Designworks has shaped the trolleys into accessories for the house. The 22 carat gold example has gold leaf applied and then varnished on the object. More information: here.
