Getting the Most Out of Compost

4:01 pm in Green, Recycling by Troy Turner

Designer Adam Weaver describes Re:Fuse as an “anaerobic digestion unit” that reclaims gas from decomposing biological debris that would otherwise be lost. The gas collected can then be used for cooking. The user simply places food-waste in the unit and over time Re:Fuse will not only yield gas for cooking but usable fertilizer for growing more food!

Pump Up The Jam

4:15 pm in 未分类 by Radhika-Seth

Taking jam sessions to another level is the idea of recycling discarded, useless Compact Disks as weights for dumbbells. Before you laugh off the idea, here is something we can consider…many women don’t use heavy weights for their workouts, and an average CD weighs about .15 grams. Combining a handful at each end, it does put the CDs to good use! If nothing else, I’m impressed with the out-of-the-box thinking. Totally rad!

IIDA Entry Makes Fresh Water

4:43 pm in Outdoor by Long Tran

C-Water is one of those concepts that’s too good of an idea not to share. An entry in the Incheon International Design Awards, C-Water boasts water purification possibilities using a simple distillation technique. The power source? The sun. The slim, yet stackable object can float on any calm water surface. Fresh water gets collected in a separate reservoir and the whole thing is compact enough to go portable. Looks like Designboom is spreading the word too.

Gothic Bicycle Chandeliers By Carolina Fontoura Alzaga

8:57 am in Eco Friendly, Lamps & Lighting, Luxury by Tanya

The almost Gothic looking bicycle chandeliers pictured below look somethings straight out of the Victorian Era. However looks certainly can be deceptive. Designed by Mexican artist Carolina Fontoura Alzaga, the sculpturistic chandeliers are nothing short of incredible since they have been manufactured from old cycle parts! The bicycle chandelier takes the process of reclamation to unparalleled heights and impresses by embracing its ecological responsibility wholeheartedly. The dark brooding quality of the bicycle chandeliers is hard to miss and it's commendable how Alzaga discards traditional materials and challenges conventional design norms.

Turning Trash Into Treasures

6:50 am in Green Living, Home, Ideas, decor by Katie Nielsen

…or perhaps more fittingly, turning your trash into something creative and useful. I’m a big fan of making practical household items out of things that would otherwise be thrown out. I am, however, not very original or much of a creativity extraordinaire so I thought I would highlight a few of my favorite DIY projects [...]

The Three R’s of Easter: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

10:02 pm in Green, Green Living, food, holidays by Katie Nielsen

Aside from the religious significance of Easter, the holiday also presents an opportunity to celebrate the rebirth of the Earth. And while Easter just wouldn’t be Easter without the iconic emblems of the holiday including Easter baskets and egg hunts, following the 3 eco-friendly “R’s” can significantly make the holiday greener. Reduce Skip the fake cellophane grass; [...]
