Key Control

Finder is a two-part RFID Locator comprising of the main terminal and tab stickers. Basically you are supposed to stick the tracking stickers to objects that you tend to misplace often, like keys, phone, wallet etc. Configure the sticker with the appropriate label on the main terminal and you are set to use it. No more lost keys again, yay!

Time Your Power

Apparently the reason why I ruined my camera battery in a short period of time was because I over charged it every time I plugged it on. I used to leave it charging for almost a day or because of my forgetfulness. This is why I resonate with designs like the Dialug that integrate a timer into the socket. So for gadgets that need 2-3 hours of charging, the timer automatically turns off the power supply once the time is up.

As the designers explains, “Turn it counter-clockwise to power sign to set for regular use and clockwise to set timer for gadgets that need only limited time of power.”

Dialug is a 2011 iF concept design entry.

Mo’bility is Mo’betta

MO is a flexible, affordable and sustainable combination of bike rental systems, local public transportation, and car sharing that aims to ease the tension of getting around in the city. Using a human-centered design approach, Mo would also mean less cars on the street, a quieter environment, less oversize roadways and more room for walking paths, improving the overall quality of life for everyone.

A variety of rentable bikes, cargo bikes, and cars can be accessed in seconds through Mo’s smartphone app that uses geo-location to encourage spontaneous usage of the mobility system even on the go. MO “members” can choose from a comprehensive, single-source range of vehicles as spontaneously as possible, no matter the situation.

Santa’s New Ride

As you might have guessed by the name, the Polar concept utility vehicle was designed especially to meet the demands of long distance, rugged roads and the cold weather of icy North Pole area. For the most part, functional parts are exposed for easy repair and emergency part changes in frigid weather. Designed to move snowmobiles, the adjustable wheels adapt to the terrain and a snow-plow can even be attached to the front to ease transport.

Ergonomic Chopp-ing

I hate the process of chopping ingredients while cooking so I rely heavily on those German contraptions that you see on teleshopping networks. However there are times when I envy the kitchens of Masterchief and all those glossy tools and equipments that the participants get to use. The Chopp – chopping board looks fit enough to be in one of the shows. It’s a board with interchangeable functionality and features a hollow base to hold all the chopped food.

The board and its components are made of high density Polyethylene and the base is made of ABS PC all of which are fused with Antimicrobial to help kill and inhibit the growth of bacteria. The board includes two storage containers, a cheese grater with storage container and interchangeable heads, a preparation aid for fruit like apples and pears etc, an egg holder and a feature for cutting fruit and vegetables like carrots and cucumbers etc. Inspired by the Wii Fit Balance Board, it kinda reminds me of the One-Hand Kitchen Equipment, designed for folks with limited limb motion.

Chopp is a 2011 James Dyson Award Entry.

The James Dyson Award is an international design award that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers. It’s run by the James Dyson Foundation, James Dyson’s charitable trust, as part of its mission to inspire young people about design engineering.

Flat Packing the Piano

Would Mozart and Beethoven have a problem if their grand piano was digital and came flat-packed? I think not, if they had a sense of humor, they would totally appreciate this new outlook at transporting one of the biggest and heaviest of home furniture! I like the Foldable Digital Grand Piano, I want one, and hopefully it sounds as good as the real thing!

Digital Cork

I am no wine expert but I do know this much that opened bottles need to be stored and consumed appropriately. Winery is a digital bottle stopper with a sensor that goes into the bottleneck and keeps a tab on the wine. It even relays useful information like temperature, expiry date of the wine via WiFi to your smartphone app. Kinda like keeping a digital eye on your drink!

Breathe Easy

What we have here is a brilliant idea that can go on to save many lives during a smoke crisis in subway trains. However it does come with its set of flaws. The Sub-Resk is an overhead handle-strap design for the standing commuters. It comes integrated with an purified air mask that can be easily deployed should the need arise. The only flaw is the logistics of usage, only those who are grabbing on to the handle will be able to use one. Experience shows that during panic situations people react differently, while some may be chivalrous and maybe share their mask with another person, others may not. Another point against this design is the amount of air contained in the capsule, since it does not seem to be hooked to some supply pipes. Nevertheless, it’s a concept worth exploring and building upon.

Everyday my husband and I fight over who is going to charge their mobile phone on the dresser outlet first. Not that we don’t have plug points around the house, it’s just an apt-place-and-ego-tussle that we have going. So I almost did a cartwheel when I saw this concept of a coat hanger + USB Charger! It’s so perfect for my situation! My dresser if full of essential stuff and I can place only one mobile phone at a time on it, so this is like the solution I am looking for! I’m sure you will like it for other reasons than mine, but heck, it’s a good idea no doubt!

The Friendly IV-System

Pal is a new take on the iv system for non-ICU patients. It takes ergonomics and the psychological needs of the patient into consideration. Current machines look like mechanical ligaments you have to carry around. Pal promotes the feelings of comfort and happiness with its approachable look. There’s are also an interface and setup improvements nurses.

Calls in Three Dimensions

3 D phones are the new thing in cellphones, but price point and compatibility issues make them less desirable at the moment. Catering to this genre is the Cobble 3-D concept; it features a 4-inch 3D 16:9 HD screen giving the device more depth sans the awkward 3D glasses. The adaptive camera tracker follows your finger and anticipates your move on the screen, making the touchscreen experience smooth as silk.

The Cobble takes stunning pictures thanks to the motion scroll, which adjusts the zoom and takes realistic snaps. Love the multiple color-back options and finished proposed.

Split Hanger

No one really knows who made the first hanger. Some believe President Thomas Jefferson used the first modern fore runner and others have pointed to more archaic forms that vaguely look like the modern hanger. We’ve seen some novel improvements since then. The Split Hanger continues to improve on this simply by enabling you to fold the hanger making it easier to slip in/out without stretching out the collar.

Iris – My Kinda Tablet

The era of Tablet PC is upon us and it’s kinda mesmerizing to see the kind of functions and features you can pack into the device. For instance the Iris Tablet PC is a transparent touchpad with an OLED display. It uses wireless charging technology, can scan documents, translates texts and can work as an efficient navigator. The coolest two apps is how you can use it for planning interior designing using AR and split the screen up for shared use. The kind of concept that I look forward to!

Minimalist Juicer

Nae is an interesting take on what designer Thibaut Rouganne calls a minimalist juicer. Personally I can envisage a far more stripped looking tool for something as simple as juicing but I do like how the lines of the design emphasize its function. The entire thing could be made from one sheet of plastic and it’s far more compact than the traditional juicer.

Fold-out Faucet

You can mistake the Flat-Fold to be a high-tech mirror thang in the bathroom or even a cabinet; but a faucet…most definitely not! The tap fits flush with the base of this discreet wall mount and comes with digital technology, plus a capacitive touch sensitive panel. So basically you can personalize the flow of the water and have it set to taste.

iPhone 5′ish Likes Your Fingerprints

The iPhone5 concept by Zeki Ozek suggests using a fingerprint scanner instead of home button. You can assign your fingerprints for opening apps. Swipe your finger twice for background working apps and of course use your fingerprint for NFC payments and app store purchases. It looks similar to the iPhone 4 except squattier (sic) – cute chubby little thing. I’m 100% sure the real iPhone 5 won’t integrate any of these features but that brings up the question, why aren’t any of the major smartphone makers using biometric sensors?

Ear Cleaning With A Zing

We have professional ear cleaners here in India, who can be found on the streets, ready to clean out the earwax for a petty fee. Amazing as it sounds, the uppercrust doesn’t indulge in the practice, they still prefer the trust old ear bud! And this brings me to the Easy Buds; a redesign of the old with added features like adjustable buds and contour fitting! The bud consists of three major parts flexible rubber cover, adjustable stainless steel sheet and detachable synthetic rubber buds. Apparently this design is more comfortable to use and is more effective in collecting the wax.

I know it’s a messy business but one that needs to be done on a regular basis. So tell me which one would you pick: the professional guy or this new design?

Half-sized Sheets of Toilet Paper

I’m a big fan of paper towels perforated into smaller sizes because not every mess demands a giant square sheet but can toilet paper benefit from the same design? HowGee looks like every other roll of toilet paper but the sheets are perforated at half-sizes. Ultimately the designers hope by letting you choose how much to use, you’ll save paper. So let’s think about what we use toilet paper for because lets be frank, not every “mess” in the bathroom demands a full-size sheet right? RIGHT?
