Could the ultimate conference room table be made of Lego blocks? If you think about it, meetings are design to solve the most basic of problems by "building" a solution so perhaps this type of design approach is fitting. If you attend a lot of meetings like me the harsh reality is that they are often not quite so productive. I could at least appreciate the Lego handiwork if it were in the conference room. Via.

Victor Aleman's "loopita la mas bonita" takes an interpretation of furniture and crafts it into sculpture. The shape is a loop that resembles a seating object, but also could be seen as many more things. The flowing shape of loopita seems fitting in a modern home setting. More information: here.

When you think of a mobile home, what comes to mind? Likely, you think of a home in a trailer park that might be single or double-wide trailer. Architect Gerold Peham challenges that predisposition through his project called “NomadHome”. This is a modern modular housing product that is designed for people who move around. The prefab housing is built in Austria and can be transported by truck to its final destination. Construction can be finalized in 2-3 days once at the job site. Now the amazing thing to me is how awesome this mobile home is. The amenities inside look like what you would find inside a beautiful house. You can learn more about NomadHome: HERE.

There are a lot of science fiction fans out there and for those this may be a dream come true. This custom office desk was created by Tom Spina Designs who does commission work in a variety of subjects including movie nostalgia. The desk features the carbonized image of Han Solo when he was frozen by Jabba the Hut. If you want to find out more about this piece of “Star Wars furniture”, visit Tom Spina’s site here. Via.

Ceramica Flaminia of Italy has my vote for the coolest modern shower tub / bathtub design. The “Leggera” is anything but the same old oval or rectangular design, rather a dramatic square shape with thin delicate lines that “cup the water like a folded tissue” instead of holding it. The Leggera bathtub from designer Gilda Borgnini represents the ultimate in bathroom concepts from Flaminia, a leader in the field of Vitreous China and Fire Clay since 1954. If you are planning a modern bathroom you have to see the incredible designs at ceramicaflaminia.it

Here is a great example from the Memphis collection created by DE LUCCHI Michele in 1981. The “Kristall pedestal table” was in interpretation of the Apollo XI Space Mission where it looks somewhat like a lunar lander. This table is “ready to land in your living room as it did on the moon”. Available at Artaban for €1,500: here.

Will Holman is an architecture student working in a post graduate program at Rural Studio in Newbern, Alabama. Will provided some pop art home furnishings that are available from his Etsy store here. The first is the “Foreclosure Fruit Bowl” fittingly adapted from a real estate “For Sale” sign. The second piece is the “Nine Square Chair” that is shaped from an everyday site in my city, a road construction sign in orange. Prices: Fruit Bowl – $55; Chair – $300.

The “My Planet” kitchen from Poliform falls under a style that I would call “contemporary simple”. The cabinetry is all one color making it easy on the eyes and less likely to clash with rooms that branch out from the kitchen. The simple design creates a “put away” look where the kitchen is orderly and organized with a minimal amount of clutter. Cabinetry is available in black, white and oak. More information: here.

Ibis bookcases draw their design inspiration from the bird “Ibis” which is a tall wading bird with a long bill. An interesting concept in the furniture is the way in which the shelves are suspended from a support that appears above the top shelf. Not only do the supports lend strength to the shelves and allow them to hold weight, but they add to the overall visual appeal. The “suspended” look creates an architectural feel that is perfect for a modern living room. More information: here.

The “Folio” modern TV stand blends technology and craftsmanship into its furniture design. Created by Alivar, this Hi Fi Unit provides a cool backdrop for a television where it is not appropriate to hang the TV on a wall. Folio is made of wood with an oak veneer and lacquer coating. Shelves are made of painted aluminum that include a fluorescent light. More information: here.
