Murakami Rocking Chair With OLED Lamp

7:41 pm in Chairs, Chairs & Bar Stools, Lamps, Modern Furniture, Rocking Chairs by Tanya

The Murakami rocking chair truly rocks. Designed by Rochus Jacob, the chair comes attached with an OLED Lamp that draws it juice from the kinetic energy produced by rocking motion. The chair comes equipped with a battery pack and the lamp has an in-built sensor so that it doesn't light up in daylight. Brilliant isn't it?

Uncompleted Chair Has No Back But Plenty Of Storage

3:25 am in Chairs, Chairs & Bar Stools, Modern Furniture by Tanya

The "Uncompleted Chair" hasn't been designed by a bunch of procrastinators as the lack of back support is intentional. Looks like designers Chia-Wei Lin and Jui-Lu Shih thought that storing umbrellas and other knick-knacks takes precedent over a boring chair back! A neat concept but I personally cannot imagine buying a chair that lacks a back!

Think velcro, and you mind instantly flashes to the many fashion disasters of eighties. Thankfully the Borderline Lamp series from Paris design studio A+A cooren doesn't suffer from the same fate. The collection is made up of a series of lamps held together by good old velcro leaving the shell edges free of metallic joints.

The collections includes the following: Big Foot - floor lamp of enlarged proportions, Big Arm - suspension lamp with cantilever arm, Borderline suspension lamp - a suspension version in 2 different dimensions.

Eclectic and Colorful Furniture from Giorgio Saporiti of IL Loft

9:28 am in Furniture Design, Home Furnishings, Interior Design, Modern Furniture, Modern Furniture & Design by Will

Eclectic is the best word to describe the "Constellation" seating collection from Il Loft. The colorful series includes sofas, armchairs, and lounges that feature feather filled seats and a large backrest that is definitely shabby sheik. Il Loft specializes in designer furniture from Giorgio Saporiti, who is known as a "creative dynamo". Eye-catching, somewhat provocative colors play a central role in Giorgio Saporiti's life, and this can been seen in the way he lives and works. Despite being inordinately fond of "color", he prefers clean-cut furniture with distinct outlines. If you like the Constellation you have to see the rest of the visually explosive furniture from Il Loft here.

Marcel Wanders Unveils Eden And Babel Series For xO

12:45 am in Chairs, Modern Furniture, Modern Furniture & Design, Stools, Tables, Vases, Wood by Tanya

As purveyors of the modern A&D scene, Marcel Wanders has always been one of our favorites. His recent collections once again proves why Wanders is a design force to reckon with. The "Eden" and "Babel" collections may have Biblical names but thats where the religious connotations end. Developed in conjunction with the French Furniture company xO, the former is a series of vases, tables and stools while the latter a collection of chairs. For Babel, Wanders had worked with materials like wood, plastic, acrylic and for Eden he has favored glass and ceramic.

However "Turning Boxes" by Turkish design studio, Lab Istanbul doesn't suffer from this predicament since its marked by myriad of textures and has a strong graphical presence. Made from metal and lacquered mdf, the storage system consists of boxes that moonlight as both shelves and containers.

Sidetrack Table – An Employee’s Worst Nightmare

7:25 pm in Modern Furniture, Office Furniture, Tables by Tanya

While I personally don't like be changed to my work desk, the uber cool Sidetrack table may just change my opinion. A brainchild of design students, Jacek Barcikowski, Jennifer Kay and Martina Pagura, Sidetrack outlines your working (or lack of it ) routine by drawing a pattern. This feat is achieved by the built in sensors which tracks ones movements and the on board marker illustrates the movements on the table itself. Definitely not recommended for those believe in procrastination.

The "Faltsessel," Folding Lounge Chair is made from one single piece of aluminum, that has been folded with 100% precision into a lined chair. The almost futuristic concept works brilliantly and incorporating leather to achieve a luxe look is pure genius. Designed by Von Arne Amtsfeld for DUA, one cannot but be impressed by the chair's dominant sculptural facet and its elegant style.
