At Milan Design Week 2010 : Bright Woods Chairs And Tables

11:38 pm in Chairs, Italian, Milan, Modern Furniture & Design, Tables by Tanya

Lets admit it, there is something utterly fascinating about shiny glowing objects. While the A&D object is not known for producing furniture that glows, maybe the Bright Woods' collection of illuminated chairs and coffee tables will change this! Seen first at the Milan Design Week, the collection has been conceptualized by Giancarlo Zema for the Avanzini Group who does a wonderful job of breaking away from the clique but still achieving a consumer-friendly vibe. The Bright Woods' collection is made from natural materials like wood and resin and is ideal for both indoors or outdoors use.

At Milan Design Week 2010 : Rock Wang’s Silk Cocoon Furniture Collection

3:36 am in Chairs, Milan, Modern Furniture & Design, Stool by Tanya

Designer Rock Wang with the Cocoon Furniture Collection transports you back to ancient China and pays homage to the historically important Silk Route. As the name suggests, the entire line of furniture has been created from silk, spun by silkworms and each piece took around five days. Wang firmly believes in the mantra "Design By Nature" and thus has incorporated bamboo strips to highlight the organic nature of the collection as well as to provide support.

Michigan based designer, Peter J. Pless will be exhibiting his furniture series entitled Spaces at Milan. Spaces consist of household objects that individuals have a direct contact on a daily basis and the collection is split into four categories which are intimate, personal, social and public. All objects in the exhibit are an amalgamation of style and functionality and some of our favorites from the collections are the Escritoire Computer Desk, the Prism Table, the Ripple Chair and the Visage Room Divider.

At Milan Design Week 2010 : Audrey Light & Lighthouse By Established & Sons

3:12 am in Lamps, Lamps & Lighting by Tanya

British manufacturers Established & Sons in conjunction with Italian glass company Venini unveiled a number of household objects at Milan. My personal favorite is the Audrey Light by Michael Eden Audrey which seeks inspiration from Renato Giuseppe Bertelli's sculpture Continuous Profile - Head of Mussolini, 1933. The Audrey Light is made of hand-blown glass and is suspended from steel cables to create a stunning silhouette. Another highlight of the collection is the Lighthouse by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec which is a voluminous round glass structure that will light up any place.

Renowned designers James Irvine, Konstantin Grcic and Jasper Morrison have come together for a new project for the Italian stone company Marsotto Edizioni. The collection consists of furniture made solely from CNC-cut white Carrara marble since the idea is to pay homage to this historic material that was also a favorite among the ancient Romans and Greeks!

At Milan Design Week 2010 : Planika Studio’s Fire Line Collection

8:49 pm in Fireplace, Fireplaces, Modern Furniture & Design by Tanya

I am quite aware that winter is long gone (at least in my part of the world). However nothing like beating the scorching sun by dreaming of romantic fireplaces. Check out Planika's Fire Line which claims to be " world's first "smokeless fire" as it doesn't burn fuel but "Fanola" which is based on ethanol of plant origin and is a renewable source of energy. So if you fancy some cozy fireplace where you can snuggle with your better half with a glass of wine, then the collection by Planika Studio is a must.

At Milan Design Week 2010 : Philippe Starck Unveils “Magic Hole” Chair Collection

1:55 am in Chairs, Outdoor, Outdoor Furniture, Patio & Outdoor Furniture, Tables by Tanya

The inimitable Philippe Starck is showing off his design prowess at the Milan Design Week. The critically acclaimed French designer unveiled his "Magic Hole" collection which consists of an armchair, a two seater sofa and a smaller table-front armchair. The chairs are meant to be kept outdoors and the bright orange pocket aka hole is not incidental as it can hold objects like newspapers, magazines and other knick-knacks. This shock resistant and weather proof collection sure makes a dramatic statement.

"Smart-ologic Corian® Living" interior design exhibit gives a glimpse into the future of the A&D scene. The exhibit at the Milan Design Week 2010 hopes to raise awareness about sustainable products and highlights how aesthetics need not be sacrificed in the name of environment. Renowned designer Karim Rashid makes use of this space beautifully by integrating DuPont™ Energain® panels into his vision to achieve what he terms "a modular holistic house concept".

At Milan Design Week 2010 : Flos Smithfield Lamp By Jasper Morrison

3:19 am in Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, London by Tanya

Brits will be familiar with the iconic Smithfield market which is famous for raw meat! So it comes as a bit of surprise that something as drab as a wholesale market can act as a source of inspiration. But then again, God and designers work in mysterious ways! Jokes apart, we simply love the Smithfield Lamp designed by Jasper Morrison for Flos. The lamp borrows heavily from industrial techniques and is Morrison's take on something as mundane as a metal lamp shade that is usually found in the meat packing district. The Smithfield Lamp available in painted glossy black or white and will be exhibited at the Milan Design Fair.

At Milan Design Week 2010 : MAGIS Murano Vanity Chair and Table

1:10 am in Chairs, Dining Room Furniture, Italian, Milan, Tables by Tanya

What better place than Milan to showcase your tribute to traditional Italian craftsmanship?Product designer and architect Stefano Giovanno does just this by unveiling his new collection for Magis. The Murano Vanity Chair and Table add a contemporary rhythm to the ancient art of glassmaking whose roots can be traced back to the Venetian Island of Murano. The collection has been manufactured from venetian glass and aluminum keeping in mind modern aesthetics. What we personally love about the collection is its unique mix of function, flamboyance and fun and the energy thats ricochets from it.
