This decadent piece of furniture is called "Deco" featuring a great black and white upholstery pattern that dresses up a room and adds a touch of being more formal. Where most furniture is moving toward function and usage, Deco hearkens back to a time where flair and fashion superseded function. More information: here.

This multi-media table looks very much like a typical coffee table, but upon closer inspection it contains two speakers and a docking station for an iPhone or iPod. The base of the table is a pyramid which is a rather unusual element as a foundational object in home furnishings. This piece was created by Stephane Thivend. Learn more about the product: here.

Notice anything out of place in this room? Perhaps, your attention is drawn to the white chair contrasted in a traditional room. This unusual living room decorating is part of an exhibition by the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Casa Boschi di Stefano, Villa Necchi Campiglio and the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, in collaboration with Cosmit and the Culture Council of Milan, called "Unexpected Guests". In the exhibition modern design pieces are juxtaposed into traditional living spaces created old and new in the same breath. More information about the exhibition can be found here. The chair is called the "Primitive Chair" from Nucleo.

For work at home professionals or workaholics that are always working, this combination coffee and laptop table is a cool piece of furniture. I like the fact that it can be “put away” and not make the living room look like a home office. The simple mechanism that brings the table closer to the person sitting can make a big difference in potential back discomfort that can be caused by leaning forward to use a laptop on a coffee table. More information: here.

Ibis bookcases draw their design inspiration from the bird “Ibis” which is a tall wading bird with a long bill. An interesting concept in the furniture is the way in which the shelves are suspended from a support that appears above the top shelf. Not only do the supports lend strength to the shelves and allow them to hold weight, but they add to the overall visual appeal. The “suspended” look creates an architectural feel that is perfect for a modern living room. More information: here.

If you like a “curvy” look in sofas, then “Victoria” from Moroso Furniture certainly fits the bill. This sofa was designed by Ron Arad as an elegant piece that does not create an overstuffed look in a living room. The curves provide geometry that departs from more often found squares and rectangles to create a personality of its own. There is even a tasteful floral pattern that is hard to make work in modern furniture. Find Victoria: here.
