DSNL: Day Shade Doubles as Night Light

10:47 am in Design, Eco Friendly, Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, Modern Design, Outdoor Furniture, Patio & Outdoor Furniture, Solar Power by chris

The DSNL is not some sort of brand new type of faster Internet connection. It is instead a concept that combines two devices you could use around the house: a day shade and a night light. That's what DSNL stands for actually: day shade and night light. As you can see in the images below the DSNL acts as a Day Shade during the day and while shading you from the sun it also harvests the sun's energy thanks to those solar panels on top. Then, at night it becomes a Night Light that will use the energy stored during the day to shed light on your late-night work-related activities, and not only. The DSNL uses OLEDs to offer you that precious, eco-friendly light so each solar charge could last for quite a while. Are you already thinking about ordering a DSNL for yourself? Via Yanko Design

Coral Lamp is Eco-Friendly to the Max But There’s No Nemo and Dory Around

1:11 am in Eco Friendly, Lamp, Lamps & Lighting, Lights by chris

We have recently shown you a concept lamp based on birds made out of hands but with no actual birds in it and today we found a Coral Lamp, a lighting solution that will remind you about the beauty of the ocean and the endangered species the corals can offer housing to. But, just like with the Birds in Hand lamp design that lacked any birds, there's no actual fish shape here either. The Coral Lamp is made of glass and comes with solar panels on board capable of harvesting precious energy from the Sun that will make them glow at night in pretty colors. I bet this soothing light would surely attract Nemo's, but mostly Dory's attention as it's not every day that we get to see a lit up, eco-friendly coral that doesn't have ulterior motives, do we?. Bird in Hand Lamp Lights Any Room, Without the Birds

4:13 am in Concept, Lamp, Lamps & Lighting, Modern Design, Modern Furniture by chris

You know how you can use your hands to make the shape of a bird and bring a smile on a kid's face especially if you're playing with shadows on a wall? Well, what if we'd take the shape of a flying bird made by our hands and turn it into a lamp concept? That's probably what dutch designer J.P. Meulendijks was thinking of when he created the Bird in Hand lamp concept. The lamp is made of plenty of birds, as long as you're used to seeing birds in hands, and can be used to bring light to any room of your modern house. But the thing that the Bird in Hand lamp design doesn't have is an actual bird, so it's up to you to image it, and all those bird shapes there should help you with that. Via Plankton

Bang Lamp Gets Shot At Every Night; Somehow Survives

2:55 am in Design, Lamps & Lighting, Lighting, Modern Design by chris

The Bang Lamp in the images below is a great lighting solution for your home. And I bet your children would love it too as long as you teach them that actual guns aren't as fun as the Bang Lamp gun. In fact the lamp requires the gun to work properly. In order to turn the lamp off you have to point the gun at the lamp, fire, then place the gun back under your pillow and go to sleep. Okay, the pillow part is not absolutely necessary especially since the lamp's light will go out with a bang when the trigger is pressed. And the Bang Lamp will change positions, slightly tilting back to the side whenever shot at. But don't worry; the lamp will survive to light another day although it will have the same faith in the very near future. Via bitplayinc

Pink Horror Lamp Shade Lampshade Is Ideal For Halloween

2:09 am in Lamps & Lighting, Lights, holidays by Tanya

We all heart Halloween but at times end up buying something very cheesy or garish. The Pink Horror Lamp Shade Lampshade not only makes for the perfect Halloween decor but given its classic design can be used on regular days as well. Inspired by the cult movie "Night of the Living Dead", the lampshade is a must for any Horror fan who wants to add a touch bizarre in their house without being macabre. This shade has a slip-UNO fitter (sit on the socket and held in place by the bulb) and supports European E14 and American E12 table lamp bases such as Ikea's Grundton, Hemma, Ekarp and Januari etc. You can purchase the Lampshade from the Etsy website.

Tamp & Lable Brings You a Table With a Built-in Lamp

The following piece of furniture comes with a great name, Tamp & Lable. The pun is obvious as we're looking at this table that comes with a built-in lamp. Or, depending on how you're looking at it, we're looking at a lamp with a built-in table. The table has a very simple design and can easily act as an improvised desk/bed stand in a small apartment although that's definitely not the only use we can think for it. The lamp, with its swiveling mechanism, can bring light to various areas around the table, which could be a handy feature. And we certainly can't ignore the outstanding table legs design, which makes this Tamp & Lable duo even more interesting. Via Florian Kallus

Dialum Task Lamp Is A Powerful Yet Eco-friendly Source of Light

10:38 pm in Eco Friendly, Lamp, Lamps & Lighting, Light, Lighting by chris

The Dialum Task Lamp designed by Matt Day is an interesting light source for homes of all sizes as well as office spaces that will offer you plenty of cost-efficient light. The Dialum Task Lamp is powered by 12 eco-friendly white LEDs and they'll be more than enough to brighten your room, or work space at night. The disk that also acts as the base of the lamp will let you power it and adjust the brightness with a simple spin in order to better fit your needs. The Dialum Task Lamp measures 8mm x 550mm x 600mm which means that the light will come from above your work station and spread evenly to create a pleasant and, more importantly, efficient overall effect. Gothic Bicycle Chandeliers By Carolina Fontoura Alzaga

8:57 am in Eco Friendly, Lamps & Lighting, Luxury by Tanya

The almost Gothic looking bicycle chandeliers pictured below look somethings straight out of the Victorian Era. However looks certainly can be deceptive. Designed by Mexican artist Carolina Fontoura Alzaga, the sculpturistic chandeliers are nothing short of incredible since they have been manufactured from old cycle parts! The bicycle chandelier takes the process of reclamation to unparalleled heights and impresses by embracing its ecological responsibility wholeheartedly. The dark brooding quality of the bicycle chandeliers is hard to miss and it's commendable how Alzaga discards traditional materials and challenges conventional design norms.

Vessel Lamps Are Perfect As Halloween Lights

7:37 am in Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, Modern Lamps by Tanya

The surrealistically designed Vessel Lamps have a very ethereal quality to them that catches the eye instantly. In fact the almost ghostly flicker of the light makes it an ideal albeit refined Halloween decor light. Designed by Samuel Wilkinson, the pendant lamps "celebrate the bulb from a different perspective" thus the holographic imagery produced by the irregular reflection is no happenstance. For the Vessel Lamps, Wilkinson uses mouth blown glass forms that were deliberately cut in distinct angles.

Crealev Levitating Lamp Defies Gravity; Literally

8:37 am in Lamp, Lamps & Lighting, Modern Design by chris

We've seen lamps in the shape of stones today, but they're not nearly as interesting as any levitating lamp coming from Crealev. The company can create all sorts of levitating objects, which use magnets to literally defy gravity. And levitating lamps are definitely some interesting objects to have around the house. Light sources that float are surely going to fit well with any modern home design, not to mention that they'll have the neighbors and all your friends talking about such innovative trickery. There are various Crealev levitating lamp designs to choose from, and you're probably going to be able to order some custom creations too. Considering that Halloween is just around the corner, maybe getting a bunch of levitating lamps right now wouldn't be such a bad idea, as they could do wonders in the neighborhood. Via Crealev
