The Air Lamps by Ray Power have a beautiful fragile quality which is no coincidence. Like most Ray Power creations, this one too showcases his proclivity towards minimalism and de-materialized designs. Designed for Spanish manufactures LZF Lamps, Air is made of bent and folded veneer wood and is available in finishes lile white wood, cherry and beech veneer in yellow, orange, red, green, grey.

How about a short break from the Milan Design scene so that we can take a peek at the rest of the A&D world? The quirky ZIPP Lampsahde by Arash and Kelly is one of those products that catches your eye from the get go. Made from poly propylene, the shades measures around 50cm in diameter and can be zipped or unzipped.

British manufacturers Established & Sons in conjunction with Italian glass company Venini unveiled a number of household objects at Milan. My personal favorite is the Audrey Light by Michael Eden Audrey which seeks inspiration from Renato Giuseppe Bertelli's sculpture Continuous Profile - Head of Mussolini, 1933. The Audrey Light is made of hand-blown glass and is suspended from steel cables to create a stunning silhouette. Another highlight of the collection is the Lighthouse by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec which is a voluminous round glass structure that will light up any place.

Brits will be familiar with the iconic Smithfield market which is famous for raw meat! So it comes as a bit of surprise that something as drab as a wholesale market can act as a source of inspiration. But then again, God and designers work in mysterious ways! Jokes apart, we simply love the Smithfield Lamp designed by Jasper Morrison for Flos. The lamp borrows heavily from industrial techniques and is Morrison's take on something as mundane as a metal lamp shade that is usually found in the meat packing district. The Smithfield Lamp available in painted glossy black or white and will be exhibited at the Milan Design Fair.

If Muku was about paying homage to traditional craftsmanship, the "W101" is all about the future! A concept by Swedish lighting company Wästberg, the "W101" task light employes cutting-edge technology in conjunction with a green philosophy and the end result is quite innovative. The task light has been made from a material called "DuraPulp" which for the uninitiated is a mix of paper pulp and starch polymer. Designer Claseeon Koivisto Rune assures of its durability and its ability to withstand heat. Since it integrates white LEDs with asymmetric reflectors and asymmetric diffusers, the task light is also energy efficient. You can catch the "W101" Task Light at the Milan Design Week 2010.

Muku Lanterns at first glance looks out of place in todays A&D scene which is dominated by sleek lines, bright hues and modern styles. However this is intentional by designers Tasuo Yamamoto and Jun Hashimoto and we applaud their move to ignore contemporary rhythm and experiment with traditional styles. The two lanterns have been inspired by traditional japanese lamps called 'Ouchi Andon' but the designer duo have given their own subtle modern twist to them. The lanterns have been made from different materials including aluminum, acrylic a, wood and will be exhibited during the Milan Design Week 2010.

If vibrant hues, dramatic shapes and whacky designs gets your creative juices flowing then check out the Spacewalker. A brainchild of the inimitable Constantin Wortmann the pendant/floor lamp is part whimsical, part outrageous and a whole lot fun. The futuristic theme defines the lamp as the Spacewalker is suppose to be a "friendly creature exploring new territory to put a smile on your face." The resemblance to the Martians from Tim Burton's Mars Attacks is uncanny and another reason why we love this little bugger so much.

With the Apaya Collection, renowned designer Ayala Serfaty avoids taking the current trend of bright hues and boy are we thankful for that. Designed in conjunction with textile artist Irit Dulman, the collection consists of stunning sculptured wool lighting pieces that dazzle (pun intended) with their ingenuity. Paying homage to organic forms, the collection may feature elemental iconographic commentary such as the essence of male and female, however it is not pretentious. The play of light and shadow makes us really covet the collection and you also can check out the Apaya Collection at the trade fair LIght+Building in Frankfurt, Germany, on 10 April 2010.

Treluce Design Studio is headed up by Marcus Tremonto. This interior lighting design is a new work from the studio. Shaped much like a ribbon, this new shape combines lighting and sculpture all in one object. With raised ceilings being so common now, this type of design can really tie together both floors with one transitional object. Via.
