The Invert collection of concept jewelry takes subtlety to a whole new level! The series, which includes earrings, wrist band, necklace and rings was designed with the idea that the user should wear the jewelry for themselves rather than for other people to see. The designs leave the gem stone almost totally unexposed, keeping the rock closer to the wearer and giving others who see it just a glimpse of the bling underneath.

Atomic Number 22

There’s something delicate about the word “bracelet” – that is, until you see the Armadillo: 161, the latest from bold jewelry maker RogueDZN. Named after its 161 parts, the Armadillo is composed entirely of G5 aerospace grade titanium- the same super strong material used to build spacecraft, naval ships, and armor plating. Using the same software used to create the USA’s F22 joint strike fighter, each curve is obsessively perfected in 3D space, a feat impossible to achieve by hand.

Individually serial numbered, each link is comprised of 8 separate custom machined pieces. The off-set angled clasp has a captured thumbscrew that allows for extremely easy opening and closing. The secondary thumb screws integrated into the latch, are actually integrated mini-wrenches to adjust the bracelet. One is the Rogue custom tri-blade wrench and the other is a T5-Torx wrench.

Bejeweled Memories

Transcendental Tunes is a music player set with digital jewelry that offers an alternative route to treating Alzheimer’s patients. It is developed under the premise that “people living with Alzheimer’s don’t lose their memories, but lose their capacity to reach them.” The digital jewels store songs that are relevant to the patient and hopes to trigger their memory in order to make them feel connected.

José explains, “After the care partner chooses a song that connects him with the patient living with Alzheimer’s, he stores the meaningful song on a digital jewelry piece. A metallic icon that works as an RFID antenna, housed by a translucent gem, triggers the song when placed on top of a vintage-looking audio device. This digital jewel becomes not only the carrier of an auditory stimulus, but the physicality of the jewel also carries a meaningful connection for the care partner.

The old-looking wooden audio artifact, which has no knobs, buttons or displays, has been designed with the Alzheimer patient in mind. A patient living with Alzheimer’s cannot recognize new objects as musical-providing devices. The readability of the object has to be subtle and quiet.”

Basically the idea is to trigger memories and hopefully find a new of making the caregiver and the patient feel connected.

Bird of Limb Enhancement

Let’s take a dip for a moment into the world of fashion in a very general way. We don’t often cover fashionable items here on Yanko Design because more often than not industrial design ends up being about as far from the clothing and decoration world as it gets. On the other hand, every once in a while something spectacular comes along and we just can’t help ourselves.

Take a peek here at the “Vibba” bracelet by Xanath Lammoglia, a designer / artist who brings not only a bit of jewelry to accent the most beautiful of ensembles, but a sculptural piece of art that looks amazing sitting all by itself.

The Tiniest Tron

So you like strips of bright light aside blackness, greenness, or grayness, yes? You must love the heck out of this Tron: Legacy wave of items coming out as of late! I know I love it. Not because all of them are good (excluding the one I’m about to show you, of course,) but because they’ve got that one singled-out limit that ties them all together. Let’s have a group show! Someday maybe. Now check this little thing out – it’s a Tron Ring!

This is no total concept work, this is real, ready to go, out there in the world. This ring is designed by James Thompson and is milled by his company Black Badger Advanced Composites. Specifically, it’s milled from a cross section of solid carbon fiber plate, (offcuts from aerospace production), fused with DuPont Corian. So far it comes in blue and orange, and a white version is coming on soon. This ring will be shown at Designboom Mart 2011 at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, check Black Badger out!
