"Ecooler" Hollow Ceramic Tile System Inspired By Indian "Jalis"

8:33 pm in Architecture, General by Tanya

Those who have an interest in Indian history and architecture would be familiar with the "Jali" concept. "Jali walls," are essentially perforated walls that were used to cool and ventilate houses in olden times and even now can be spotted in villages and rural areas. It is clear that the "Ecooler" which is a system of hollow ceramic tiles by Mey Kahn and Boaz Kahn seek inspiration from this traditional Indian practice. Interestingly the designers also market their product as a cooling system thats cools a room by running water through its channels.Sometimes you need to look at the past for inspiration, to create a better future!

The Quirky Bread Lampshade Collection

6:07 am in Eco Friendly, Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, Lighting by Tanya

Okay, I admit it, I like bread as much as the next person but not sure if I would want it hanging from my ceiling (even on those horrid no carb days). However the Bread Lampshade collection makes me rethink my position on bread as an aesthetic object since its eye-catching and eco-friendly. Designed by Dominic Wilcox, the lamps are composed of used bread flour and have been varnished to keep the pesky fungus away.
