The innovative designers at Designplus are always coming up with creative products for their commercial clientele, and here are two pieces from the “Acrilic Forniture” series done for In House Design. The acrylic dining table houses a colorful padded form usually reserved for the seats of the dining chairs that surround most tables, and a rather contradictory traditional and modern dining chair hybrid that starts out old world and finishes some where in the future. See the entire collection of modern products you may even have at home already at Designplus.it

Gravity Defying Divided Sideboard by FRONT DESIGN

6:00 pm in Art, Dining Room Furniture, Furniture, Storage, Traditional by John

The “Divided Sideboard” was created by FRONT DESIGN with the concept of doing something different than a traditional furniture sideboard. From the Magic Collection, this piece defies gravity in the way that one drawer is not connected to the other three in any way. The stair-step approach of the remaining three drawers creates an optical image more like art than furniture. Dimensions: 14.9″ x 60.6″ x 32.6″. More information: here.

As an extra, here is another model that was created where all the drawers are connected together.

Zaisu Chairs : Dining Furniture in Traditional Japanese Sitting Style

4:00 am in Chairs, Dining Chairs, Dining Room Furniture, Dining Tables, Furnishings, Furniture, Traditional, Zen by John

Zaisu chairs are a floor sitting piece of furniture that came into style in Japan during the Muromachi period. During that period of architecture floors were covered in thick straw mats known as “tatami”. The ruling warrior class created strict rules about living daily lives which brought on the sitting posture called “seiza” as it was deemed the respectful way to sit. Now, Japanese dining furniture sets featuring Zaisu chairs are popular as families adopt traditional Japanese ways of living in an effort to improve the connection a family feels while spending time together. The Colander Solid Aluminum Dining Table from Daniel Rohr

11:21 pm in Uncategorized by Will

Thanks to computerized lathe programs and the innovative thinking of German designer Daniel Rohr, the “Colander Dining Table” was hewn from a massive block of aluminum. The Colander table is limited to just 10 and after seeing the video of the steps taken to produce this super cool modern table that features 909 holes and a lustrous buffed finish that is unlike the sharp cutting edges of its namesake. The Shapely Contour Dining Table and Chair by Bodo Sperlein

9:33 am in Uncategorized by Will

Designer Bodo Sperlein will reveal his shapely Contour Table and Chair at this year’s London Design Festival. I find the looping shape rather creative and characteristic of Sperlein’s previous works. The chair “exudes a simple elegance, and has been designed to look like a single sculpted sheet. A ribbon-like profile draws the eye effortlessly around a series of loops terminating in slender legs that conceal their true strength”. The Contour Table and Chair are available in grey or red lacquer, or Walnut. See the rest of the stylish collection of designs from Bodo Sperlein here. Via The Contemporist

Montego : Expanding Round Dining Table from Pottery Barn

5:00 pm in Uncategorized by John

The Montego is a wonderfully crafted round dining table that is made of solid mahogany wood and some veneers on its table top. The furniture weighs 154 lbs. which speaks to its solid construction. I like the flexibility of dining tables that expand like this model. There is an extra leave which adds another 20″ making its overall length at 65″. There are 7 choices in wood stains to choose from. For $25 you can request a wood swatch so that you can make a more precise decision about the best color for your dining room. The Montego round dining table is a flexible solution for dining rooms seeking a classic look. Price: $1,599. This product is available at Pottery Barn: HERE.
