Gravity Defying Divided Sideboard by FRONT DESIGN

6:00 pm in Art, Dining Room Furniture, Furniture, Storage, Traditional by John

The “Divided Sideboard” was created by FRONT DESIGN with the concept of doing something different than a traditional furniture sideboard. From the Magic Collection, this piece defies gravity in the way that one drawer is not connected to the other three in any way. The stair-step approach of the remaining three drawers creates an optical image more like art than furniture. Dimensions: 14.9″ x 60.6″ x 32.6″. More information: here.

As an extra, here is another model that was created where all the drawers are connected together.

Zaisu Chairs : Dining Furniture in Traditional Japanese Sitting Style

4:00 am in Chairs, Dining Chairs, Dining Room Furniture, Dining Tables, Furnishings, Furniture, Traditional, Zen by John

Zaisu chairs are a floor sitting piece of furniture that came into style in Japan during the Muromachi period. During that period of architecture floors were covered in thick straw mats known as “tatami”. The ruling warrior class created strict rules about living daily lives which brought on the sitting posture called “seiza” as it was deemed the respectful way to sit. Now, Japanese dining furniture sets featuring Zaisu chairs are popular as families adopt traditional Japanese ways of living in an effort to improve the connection a family feels while spending time together.
