If you are a minimal decorating purist, than the “Max” sofa here from Flexform is worth consideration. They have nicely adapted the concepts of minimalism in the thin seating cushions, narrow sofa legs and smaller backrest. By not “overdoing” the furniture stuffing like many products on the market today, they allow minimal design fans a chance for living room perfection. In this black sectional sofa, Leolux takes away some of the back rest to create a more contemporary design. It opens the look of the furniture entirely making the room appear more open and less subject to the standard shapes associated with a boxy sectional sofa. This product is called Vol de Rêve and can be found here. The design was created by Jane Worthington who has created other well known pieces such as the De Sede DS152 sofa.

“Umarmung” was a piece originally commissioned for a private residence in Tokyo, Japan. The floor sitting couch is perhaps the first of its kind. The Zaisu chair has graced Japanese culture for centuries creating awareness around the world with its floor sitting design. The natural evolution is for “floor sitting design” to move into other furniture objects, in this case a couch. Christhoph Vogl had this to say about the project, “Umarmung is inspired by the long tradition of floor-sitting culture in Japan where the connection between the body and conversations is not restricted to universal seat height and conventional definition of sofa”.
