Unexpected experiences and surprises wait deep down on the ocean floor. Inspired by a creature more alien than anything science fiction can come up with. The CIRRATA is a thesis project consisting of a series of lamps for public indoor environments by Markus Johansson, graduate student from the School of Design and crafts College of Design at the University of Gothenburg.

Made of Corian, the result are lamps that challenge all preconceptions about what is possible to achieve with the material. It’s beautiful and looks almost weightless with just the tips of its legs touching the floor.

Corian is quite an ingenious material when it comes to building various furniture pieces. Take the Clover Table in the images below that has been crafted from a single sheet of Corian. That's possible due to Corian's special properties. Heating the material up to 300F gives lets you mold it as you see fit. From the flat surface above a clover-shaped piece has been cut out and then the remaining material has been bent to form the three legs of the Clover Table. The table is more than resistant and will easily hold the glass sheet on top and it will certainly make an impression with your guests. Via Wertel Oberfell

The Cirrus Graphic Table can electrify any dynamic space with its visually striking graphical motifs. The artwork is by Stuart Melrose and the original piece was actually an abstract landscape that paid homage to the artist's stint in Yucatan which is famous for its pristine white sand beaches. The table mesmerizes with its unabashed charm and is a fantastic hybrid of artistic vision and quality craftsmanship. Made from DuPont's Corian, the table has a semi gloss finish and the graphics have been hand inlaid with pieces of colored Corian. Designer Zaha Hadid creating this beautiful kitchen island called Z.Island. The island itself has been shaped from Corian into a custom shape that befits an ultra-modern design ideal. Called "Corian Nouvel Lumieres", this kitchen design was created by Jean Nouvel for DuPont and Ernestmeda. The cornerstone of the design is the backlit cabinet lighting and the visual effect it has on the entire kitchen. The backlit cabinet lighting was created by using transparent Corian panels and then installing lighting in the back of the cabinets. I applaud this concept as it presents other possibilities than the more common practice of installing lighting underneath cabinets. Via.
