Ten Amazing Cellphone Concepts on Yanko Design

9:01 pm in 未分类 by Radhika-Seth

I often reason with my children that we survived the 80’s without the cellphone, here in India. We grew up to be safe and sound and managed to get home the message that we’d be late for dinner! I don’t blame the technology; it’s just that the user interface, product designing and features in today’s phones are so awesome, that they become a natural extension of our wrist! Here are Ten Amazing Cellphone Concepts that I have rounded up for you, ten reasons to look forward to new arm candy.

10) Sony Ericsson FH Mobile Phone by Du Jun

This concept explores the possibility of flipping and pivoting the cellphone to new dimensions. The phone even becomes an intercom of sorts when split into two, allowing easy communication between the two parties holding each end.

9) BlackBerry Empathy Concept by Kiki Tang & Daniel Yoon

Kiki and Daniel integrate human emotions with the concept of social networking to this phone. The phone is used along with a biometrics ring that perceives the users current emotional state and relays it to the phone. More info here.

8 ) Second Life Mobile Phone Concept by Cho Sinhyung & Jeon Jungjae

This concept is awesome for those who keep forgetting to recharge their phone and are running out of juice! In active use, the AMOLED screen is used and when its running low on juice or on standby, the E-ink display gets active.

7) Windows 7 Concept Phone by Lin Jian Feng

Ideal for those who like bulky phones that turn into mini computers in a jiffy! One phone that has it ALL!

6) iPhone 5 Concept by Michal Bonikowski

This breezy take on the iPhone 5 is quite surreal. Honestly, do you thing the next-gen will be something like this? I hope so!

5) Rotary Mechanical Smartphone by Richard Clarkson

Here is a classic steampunk take on the digital phone. A remix of two generations that appeals to the modernist and the classic! Elements like rotary dial and brass detailing are simply fantastic!

4) Elastic Phone Concept by Sung-Ching Chang

This concept gives both the touchscreen and keypad experience thanks to its collapsing bands. Best of both the worlds!

3) Flip Phone by Kristian Ulrich Larsen

This concept has to be the most delightful one of them all; it features three flexible AMOLED touchscreens and a keyboard on the reverse. Superb!

2) HTC Tube by Antoine Brieux

HTC Tube features a basic outer phone shell that can be supported with variable inner cartridges. What this means is three alternatives (8, 16 & 64GB) are symmetric, but when it comes to the tech specs, it all depends upon the cartridge fitted.

1) BIO Flip Phone by Miyazawa Tetsu & Ichimura Shigenori

The cool a flip phone has a cover that automatically dog-ears up when calls come in. Very bookish and cute!

Getting Nostalgic About Wind and Light

10:25 pm in 未分类 by Radhika-Seth

Returning to the basics of fanning a paper (for wind) or breaking twigs & rubbing them together to make light (fire), here is a project that explores the haptic sensations for these, in present times. Nostalgic Sensations comprises of a fan and a torch, the fan works by blowing into it, just like a pinwheel. And the torch works with the intuitive breaking action of a light stick, shaking it till the torch, lights up.

What I like about the project is the simple intuitive interaction between the objects and us. Super!

Multiple OS’s on a Smartphone

4:21 pm in 未分类 by Long Tran

The Smartphone market is definitely going to be more competitive in 2011 with five platforms competing for the crown, but designers Michal Bonikowski and Rafal Pilat feel there’s no need to choose just one so they’ve come up with three concepts sure to appease most of you. Project one is an HTC model that can run multiple operating system (not gonna happen) but an intriguing idea nonetheless. I’d actually go for a phone like that. Projects 2 and 3 are more standard fare. Hit the jump

Project 1. Dual or Triple OS? Why not?
Here’s a take on a platform that would be perfect for running different operating systems. The concept sports an extra touch display situated under the main screen. This extra screen could be used either to display notifications of be used for specific OS buttons (e.g. home, search etc.).

Project 2. A Windows Phone 7 concept
Smooth curvy lines, contrasting yet complementary materials used for different body parts. Satin aluminium shell + painted aluminium for the back covers. Firm grip, large 4” screen.

Project 3. A Windows Phone 7 Nokia
There’s nothing better than a feeling of holding something “real” and not another plastic toy – which unfortunately  is all too common. The case is made of magnesium alloy.

Solaris Sunshade Hides You From The Sun While Powering Your Gadgets

8:26 am in Eco Friendly, Modern Design, Patio & Outdoor Furniture by chris

The Solaris is an interesting solar-powered sunshade concept that will make your pool days even better. The sunshade will basically harness the juice from the sun and turn it into precious power that could power your mobile gadgets. Thanks to those solar panels on top of the Solaris you'll never have to walk back to the house to charge your phone or laptop and you can enjoy some blessed shade while quickly dealing with fast messages and emails or Internet browsing. The Solaris is definitely the kind of eco-friendly sunshade I'd like to have in my back yard, too bad it's just a concept for the time being. Via DesignSustentavel

Manmade Piraeus Waterfall Concept For Greek Piraeus Tower

4:03 am in Architecture by Tanya

Move over Niagra Falls you may finally have some competition from an unlikely source. Greek architects Danir Safiullin and Irina Prytkova have proposed the "Piraeus Waterfall" which would be placed on top of the Piraeus Tower to make a design statement. Aiming to be a dramatic and iconic, the "Piraeus Waterfall" will also drown down the noise pollution, something the port town has been struggling with for a while.

6:05 pm in Home Appliances, Iphone, Kitchen Appliances by Tanya

You know what they say about the iPhone and that how there is an iPhone app for everything under the sun? Well, we believe them since now you can even get virtual coffee. The Make Coffee App may be a concept for now but it won't be long before coffee addicts will get their steaming cup of Java Joe wirelessly. The idea is to make an Italian Coffee Maker that can be controlled by the good old iPhone. Brilliant isn't it? Well, now only if someone gets cracking on it. You can download the app from the iTunes Store.
