Do Be Discreet

4:02 pm in Furniture, Shelving by Troy Turner

I have always wanted to put my favorite books on display, hoping someone else would see and enjoy them, but I have struggled with finding a solution that doesn’t look too deliberate… until now. The Piastra is a wall mounted book shelf that brings home the functional simplicity of the magazine rack to create an all-around dynamic interior object that allows quick and intuitive access to reading.

Designer: Flussocreativo

The satin stainless steel and hidden LED lighting make for a super clean way to show off your favs.

Pen in Crack

4:03 pm in 未分类 by Chris-Burns

Can you guess where the pen goes? That’s right! Right in the middle there, right in the crack. This project is known simply as “Notebook with Pen Holder,” and is designed by Teo Song Wei, a designer who, on the whole, enjoys automobile design the best. How does this lend to the design of a notebook? Simplicity above all else, then style, then aerodynamics. Not that this book is going to be racing a 500 anytime soon.

This notebook could also be a sketchbook, a sketchbook whose cover is made of silicone rubber and whose silicone rubber has a pen holder front and center. Teo Song Wei lets us know that this project is in search of a producer – could be you!

Reading Material, Predictable Magic

3:04 am in 未分类 by Long Tran

We love the tangible side of ID, but the majority of designs will never move beyond concept because there’s a dark area in ID everyone hates to wrestle with – the business side. Predictable Magic empowers you to face the challenge, to make you a better leader and business owner. It’s full of examples of how one creates products that resonate with consumers by making emotional connections. $19 on Amazon but from Jan 4-9, US Kindle owners can download it for free. Start the new year off right people. Predictable Magic.

Book Reading Made Haptic And Easy For The Blind

5:00 pm in 未分类 by Radhika-Seth

The Haptic Braille is a mouse-like device that’s capable of translating ordinary text into braille on its surface. This means that the blind can read virtually anything the sighted can. The technology uses optical character recognition. Simply skim it over any text and wait for the haptic feedback. I like how you can pocket and carry it over to the library. Just imagine how many books literally become available at your fingertips. Splendid!

The Haptic Braille is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design winning entry by Samsung Art & Design Institute student.

The Bookshelf Chair Is Actually a Ladder

9:13 am in Chairs & Bar Stools, Furniture, Furniture Design, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Modern Design by chris

When asked what it wanted to be when it grew up this ladder probably answered it dreams about becoming a Bookshelf Chair. That's the name of this particular project that comes all the way from India and is inspired by common ladders. This Bookshelf Chair looks like a ladder and certainly can act as one, but it's also a pretty comfortable chair to enjoy a quick read. The Bookshelf Chair has enough storage space for all your favorite books and magazines and will bring a touch of personality to your home office. So, what do you say, are you ready for your own Bookshelf Chair? Via Designboom

Exhibi-Table Shows Everyone What You’re Currently Reading

The Exhibi-Table is not exactly a home office table; in fact it's not exactly a table for your home but rather for your business, in case your business is selling books and magazines. The table has its own storage shelves embedded right in it and that area can be used to display all the books and magazines you're trying to pitch to your customers. Besides showing various titles to your audience the Exhibi-Table can act as a regular table too, and, if you insist, you could get one for home too, although you'd have little-to-no use for it on most days. So, anyone particularly interested in this Exhibi-Table? Via Yanko Design

Schiena Bookcase Will Never Need a Doctor

9:32 am in Furniture Design, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Led, Modern Design, Shelving by chris

"Schiena" means in Italian spine, so therefore the images below are showing us a spine-shaped bookcase that will never require the attention of a doctor. The back of this Schiena Bookshelf can be bent to your choosing and you should definitely bend it whichever way you like in order to come up with a daring shape, but one that can still support your favorite books while also surprising your visitors in the process. The Schiena Bookcase has various moving elements so creating your personal spine bookshelf design is really easy. Not to mention that the Schiena comes with LED lights behind it to illuminate your creations and empower the overall visual effect of this bent spine-like design. Via Pietro Travaglini

Secret Movie Projection Area Also Doubles as a Neat Reading Area

1:27 am in Design, Home Theater, Modern Furniture, Modern Furniture & Design, TV Stands & Home Theater by chris

Your passion for movies and books will be united by this particular room design. The TV screen you see in the first picture is actually a projection screen that will show you all your favorite movies. Behind it there's a special room that hides a bookshelf filled with your favorite books and a projector needed to offer you all that movie rear-projecting you want. In order to create such a home theater setup you'd need a pretty big room to accommodate that dividing projection wall and all the other elements needed for this home entertainment setup to work. Not to mention all the neat seating solutions required by both the multimedia section of the room and by the reading area. Via Minhembio

The Bike Shelf Can Store One Bike and A Few Good Books at the Same Time

11:20 pm in Design, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Modern Design, Shelving by chris

Of all the books shelves and storing solutions we've seen so far, this Bike Shelf is really one of the most ingenious as it also doubles as a bike holder that will fit perfectly with various apartments, no matter how big or small they are. In fact, as you can clearly see, the Bike Shelf has been specifically designed to support a bike in the first place and the book-storing feature came only afterwards. The Bike Shelf isn't available for ordering anywhere but you could definitely contact the creator, Chris Brigham for more details on this storage solution. Via Chris Brigham

Bucefalo Sofa Holds All Your Books When You’re Not Reading

11:57 pm in Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Shelving, Sofa, Sofas by chris

The Bucefalo Sofa is a useful piece of living room furniture even when you're not at home, enjoying its comfort. The sofa itself is a great choice for some afternoon reading, but when you're not really interested in any of your favorite books you'll be able to deposit them neatly right underneath the whole seating area. That's right, this Bucefalo Sofa doubles as a storage area, and the couch itself is definitely candy for the eye. Coincidentally, just yesterday we showed you a staircase that hides a bookcase and today we have a sofa that can store plenty of books, whenever needed. Which one of these two storage solutions would you choose? If your answer is "An eBook Reader!" then I'll advise you to check the Bucefalo Sofa instead of the Staircase. It's a lot more comfortable when it comes to using that eReader. Via Emanuele Canova
