Reading Sanctuary

3:01 pm in Furniture by Troy Turner

The Nautilus shelving system, showcased at Northern Michigan University’s first ever exhibit at the Salone Satellite, was designed to be a cherished family heirloom that, like markings of a child’s height on the wall, represents the advancement of personal knowledge as well as the coming of age. Inspired by the need for growth through learning, the ascending shelves symbolize the lifelong pursuit of discovery. Placed in line, the shelves act as a playful room divider, but when closed Nautilus becomes an adapted reading sanctuary.

Infinite Configurations from Similar Proportions

3:01 pm in Furniture by Troy Turner

Our innate longing for uniqueness and individual identity is something deep rooted and naturally expressed in the things we choose to have around us. Designer Caterina Tiazzoldi’s Parametric Bookshelves are a response to this desire. The production process has been streamlined as such that user can input just 3 parameters (length, height, & color) and receive a custom tailored piece based on a single model. The result is formal complexity that is compatible with the standards of contemporary industry.

Trick Bookcase Can Hold All Your Cooking Books and Then Some

1:13 pm in Chairs & Bar Stools, Coffee, End & Side Tables, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Kitchen, Modern Furniture, Modular Furniture, Shelving, Small Home Furniture, Table by chris

The Trick Bookcase in the images below is not just a simple bookcase. It is, in fact, a lot more complex than that. The Trick Bookcase is apparently a kitchen table, although it can be placed anywhere else too, that also hides a couple of chairs right underneath it. Both the table and the chairs act as fancy storage solution, but make sure you don't spill your cook books, journals, and whatever else you decide to store down there during the day while you're pulling and pushing those chairs away. The Trick Bookcase modular furniture concept should definitely be considered for your crowded small apartment but not only. If there's one thing I can object to is not having enough legroom under the chair but you can't have it all, can you? Via Sakurah

Schiena Bookcase Will Never Need a Doctor

9:32 am in Furniture Design, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Led, Modern Design, Shelving by chris

"Schiena" means in Italian spine, so therefore the images below are showing us a spine-shaped bookcase that will never require the attention of a doctor. The back of this Schiena Bookshelf can be bent to your choosing and you should definitely bend it whichever way you like in order to come up with a daring shape, but one that can still support your favorite books while also surprising your visitors in the process. The Schiena Bookcase has various moving elements so creating your personal spine bookshelf design is really easy. Not to mention that the Schiena comes with LED lights behind it to illuminate your creations and empower the overall visual effect of this bent spine-like design. Via Pietro Travaglini

D’espresso Cafe New York Has Everything Upside Down

8:52 pm in Architecture, Design, Interior Design, Modern Design, Modern Furniture & Design, Wood by chris

We're always looking for interesting design and architecture ideas and today we have such an inspiring creation for you. The D'espresso Cafe New York is certainly a very creative place when it comes to interior design. The room looks as if a regular library has tumbled over on one of the sides. Everything rotates by 90 degrees, so the wooden floor actually becomes a wall while the bookcases filled with plenty of books occupy the new floor, the ceiling and a remaining wall. Not to mention that the former ceiling still provides all the light you'd need while defying gravity in the process. This D'espresso coffee place is definitely a good choice for going out, so if you happen to be in New York, do check it out! Via TheCoolist

BrickBox Modular Bookcase Will Adjust to Any Space

12:08 am in Design, Furniture, Home Storage & Shelving, Modular Furniture, Storage by chris

Today we're looking at yet another piece of modular furniture, the BrickBox bookcase, which has been designed to fit any kind of space. So if you have a tiny and crowded apartment then this design might be specifically made for you. The BrickBox is a bookcase composed of various boxes that can be moved around in order for the bookcase to follow the shape of the wall and adjust to corners. Not to mention that, once you're ready to move, each box becomes, well, a box, in which you will be able to transport all the stuff you have. There are three kind of boxes to take advantage of, Reinforced Boxes, Standard Boxes and Small Boxes, which are all made of birch plywood of 10mm and are waiting to become a part of your new bookcase. Bucefalo Sofa Holds All Your Books When You’re Not Reading

11:57 pm in Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Shelving, Sofa, Sofas by chris

The Bucefalo Sofa is a useful piece of living room furniture even when you're not at home, enjoying its comfort. The sofa itself is a great choice for some afternoon reading, but when you're not really interested in any of your favorite books you'll be able to deposit them neatly right underneath the whole seating area. That's right, this Bucefalo Sofa doubles as a storage area, and the couch itself is definitely candy for the eye. Coincidentally, just yesterday we showed you a staircase that hides a bookcase and today we have a sofa that can store plenty of books, whenever needed. Which one of these two storage solutions would you choose? If your answer is "An eBook Reader!" then I'll advise you to check the Bucefalo Sofa instead of the Staircase. It's a lot more comfortable when it comes to using that eReader. Via Emanuele Canova

Staircase/Bookcase Design Has a Double Personality

12:54 pm in Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Shelving by chris

What do you do when you have too many books in print? You either get a Kindle in order to better manage your reading passion, or build yourself an out-of-the-box storage solution like the Staircase/Bookcase project in the images above. It's one of the most efficient designs I've ever seen when it comes to storing book collections, but there are a couple of downsizes too when looking at this bookcase with a double personality. First of all you need a two-story house or apartment, otherwise building such a storage design will lose its second functionality and thus its coolness. But most importantly using the Staircase/Bookcase as an actual staircase might not be something you'll want to do since inevitably, you'll end up getting dirt on some of your favorite titles. Hive Bookcase Will Awake Your Reading Passion

12:40 am in Furniture, Home Storage, Home Storage & Shelving, Shelves, Shelving, Storage by chris

Bookcases shouldn't just be efficient storage solutions for your favorite books, especially with all the smart designs available out there. Such is the case with the Hive, a great bookcase ready to shelter most of your books. The Hive Bookcase is "inspired by both the natural shelter build by bees and traditional forms of Arab Andalusian architecture" and it will certainly awake your reading passion. The Hive is not only a great piece of furniture but also a great separator between two different areas of a studio as its shelves are accessible from both sides. Each storage unit has a hexagonal shape and will definitely let you store other items besides books, although such a creation should be a book-only piece of furniture. Via Darenart
