Though it was designed with style in mind, the Bluetooth-ready Wolf headphone isn’t just a fashion-forward accessory, it’s also a wearable state-of-the-art sound system.   Built-in selenium plates optimize the quality of sound regardless of the quality of the input while internal copper wiring ensures sound waves travel even faster & smoother. Most appealing though, is the semi-translucent acrylic exterior illuminated by embedded LED lights. In a variety of prints & colors, this one is sure to be a hit with the cool kids.

Designed by Lu Chieh Hua, Headphone or Speaker combines the lightweight mobility of headphones with the sound amplification of a speaker into a single unit that makes it possible to both listen to your music privately or share with others. A unique twisting mechanism allows the unit to be propped upright for directing sound and automatically shifts playing modes and volume between operations, transforming it from headphone to speaker in a flash.

The Levitating Superconductor Speakers by James Coleman has got to be one of the coolest I’ve seen! The concept works by housing a superconducting element inside a transducer, which can be suspended in a superdiamagnetic field by an electromagnet. Changing the electromagnetic field strength will cause the transducer to oscillate, which will impart sound directly into the air. Crossing my fingers that superconducting technology advances quickly because I want both the black/gold and blue/silver versions!

I know I’m not alone when I say I want my pilot on my next flight to be as comfortable, rested, and confident as possible. Understanding the importance of clear speech, hearing, and comfort of a pilot’s communication headset, BMW Group DesignworksUSA created this customizable system that fuses ergonomics, audio functionality, and a streamlined interface for a comfortable, relaxed, and safe flying experience.

New features include a sliding control on the headband to find the optimum balance between comfort and a “tight” fit. Cushions are particularly soft around the temple area of sunglasses, keeping ambient noise out even more effectively. The special ear cup and inclined axis of the headset further improve passive noise attenuation.

The concept designed by Jonathan Robson is based on a LEGO helmet with a gold space visor. The helmet acts as a headset for listening to the audio for LEGO comics as well as a role-playing toy. Once subscribed to Audio Comic, you’ll receive the LEGO comic through the post with your activation code to download the audio onto a USB brick. Simply slot the brick into the back of the helmet, put it on and enjoy the exciting LEGO Audio comic experience!

As a child, designer Jonathan Robson subscribed to the LEGO Club and received the LEGO magazine through his door containing puzzles, competitions and comics. He explains:

“When I was young I played with LEGO a lot and all I used to read was the comics in LEGO magazines, I’d like to give something back to them as they helped me learn to read.”

Acoustic Poetry is an exploration in the design of  products for deaf culture that focus not only on simple functionality but also offer an emotional connection to the acoustic environment that would otherwise be limited. Through the device, the user broadcasts the sounds of the environment that has sparked their curiosity to an interpreter who then responds with a brief verse describing the atmospheric noises. The result is an enriched connection to both everyday experiences and special occasions.

If you’re not a morning person and hate the irritating cacophony of most alarm clocks then you’ll appreciate this design by Jamie McMahon. Handcrafted from 2mm thick birch plywood, walnut, and stainless steel, the Acoustic Alarm combines aesthetic rawness and simple string-pluckin’ functionality to gently awaken the user from slumber. The alarm uses a rotational pick to pluck guitar strings and has been designed to allow the user to customize the tone of the alarm to their liking with a simple adjustment of the tuning pegs.

This amp is made of aluminum, stainless steel, and 100% pure common sense. The super-cool looking Block amplifier sticks strictly to Hi-Fi audio rules by placing the components that spread the most electromagnetic interference (AC, power transformers, chokes) in individual compartments the furthest distance possible from audio lines. Block’s main soundboard swings up on hinges to enable dusting of the internal electronics without the need to disconnect cumbersome wires.

The guys at Architettura Sonora are redefining the listening experience with an array of sound modules that are both acoustically customized and geometrically shaped to enhance music listening indoors and out, freeing listeners from both spatial constraints and noise pollution. AS’s fine-tuned system of sculptures uses directional and omnidirectional sound emission to either direct or spread a flawless stream of music to a predefined space, creating an oasis of surround-sound or isolated music zone.
