Cool Balancing Boxes Bedside Table from Porro Furniture

5:40 pm in Art, Coffee, End & Side Tables, Cool, Decorating, Design, Furniture, Table, Tables by John

I have to say that I love this bedside table from Porro Furniture called "Balancing Boxes". It was created by the Swedish design group "Front", whose four members include Anna Lindgren, Katja Sävström, Sofia Lagerkvist and Charlotte von der Lancken. The concept of boxes providing storage and acting as a table top surface is an insightful idea. The way the boxes pivot on themselves melds both art and furniture into one statement. Alexandre Moronnoz created this outdoor seating concept called the "Interference Urban Bench". The urban benches are made from laser cut metal. The outer appearance creates a calm reflective surface upon which to sit and enjoy the outdoors. By contrast, the interior working shows disorder, movement and a lack of stability creating a unique overall theme to the piece. More information: here.

Nucleo: Where Furniture and Art Come Together in Design

5:56 pm in Art, Contemporary, Cool, Design, Exhibit, Furniture, Gallery, Home, House, Modern, Modern Furniture & Design by John

It can be said that "being primitive" takes design down to its deepest roots by breaking it down to its basic concepts. These designs come from Nucleo and feature three of their collections: Primitive, PH and Terra. Each of these themes provides a unique experience designed for both the furniture and art enthusiast.

furniture construction

Primitive: The workmanship makes unrepeatable and unique objects: made entirely by hand without the use of presswork and finished with non-toxic resins that reveal signs and imperfections. Living Primitive elements reflect on elementary forms used by Le Corbusier to create architectural and urban space. The return to structure is a twentieth Century leit-motiv, with artistic avant-garde, from Cubism, to Abstract art, to Constructivism, Suprematism. The art is free from 'enslavement' to the subject, able to translate the motions of the human soul with the pure colour or pure form.

PH Series: Inspired by molecular structures and crystal lattices created when atoms bond to one another, PH is a pentagonal modular made in expanded polyurethane. The pentagonal shape allows an ample number of configurations by drawing closer the various sides.

Terra: Terra is not a finished product, is an idea; we provide the cardboard frame and the seeds, the main ingredient, the dirt can be found everywhere on our planet. The armchair is born in your garden and becomes part of your landscape.
Terra! is not only a grass arm-chair, is an arm-chair of the world; if you are in a desolate suburb surrounded with cement, make it out of cement, if you live in front of an American highway, make it out of asphalt, if you are in the north pole use the snow. More information: here.

Notice anything out of place in this room? Perhaps, your attention is drawn to the white chair contrasted in a traditional room. This unusual living room decorating is part of an exhibition by the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, Casa Boschi di Stefano, Villa Necchi Campiglio and the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, in collaboration with Cosmit and the Culture Council of Milan, called "Unexpected Guests". In the exhibition modern design pieces are juxtaposed into traditional living spaces created old and new in the same breath. More information about the exhibition can be found here. Treluce Design Studio is headed up by Marcus Tremonto. This interior lighting design is a new work from the studio. Shaped much like a ribbon, this new shape combines lighting and sculpture all in one object. With raised ceilings being so common now, this type of design can really tie together both floors with one transitional object. Via.

Remodeling in Chicago Photos – A Space Reinvented

5:00 am in Architecture, Art, Home, House, Remodeling, Space by John

Remodeling in Chicago is quite common for families wishing to update an urban space due to the age of many properties in town. These photos show an apartment located in the old Montgomery Ward headquarters. This property has great views of the John Hancock Center and the surrounding skyline. The apartment is an L-shape allowing for many unique spaces to be created. The owner’s wishes were to create a living space for the family and a public art gallery all in one space. As an owner of an art gallery it makes sense to make the home inviting to VIP clients that need a more intimate setting than the art gallery alone. The architects on the project were Wheeler Kearns. More of their work can be found here.
