3D Print From Your Desktop

3:01 pm in 未分类 by Troy Turner

Consider this the “Easy-Bake Oven” of 3D printers. While it’s just a concept now, designers Artur Tchoukanov & Joris Peels see the Origo 3D printer as more of a take-home appliance that works with 3Dtin and is simple enough for children to use to bring their ideas to life!

Going Beyond Augmented Reality

3:02 pm in 未分类 by Troy Turner

Taking 1st Place at the Imagina Awards for Best Design and Communication, the Aeon Project is a thoughtful & open-minded exploration into the merging of mobility & 3D applications. Aeon not only incorporates the navigation & general controls you’d expect from HUD, but also becomes an immersive, interactive learning experience through selectable applications, allowing the user to learn about surrounding objects with the swipe of finger, or turning the screen into a visual story about surrounding architecture.

For complete customization, Aeon can be adjusted from augmented reality, to mixed reality, to virtual reality, allowing the user to easily shift from text-only information to complete virtual immersion.

Hyper(reality)

3:01 pm in 未分类 by Troy Turner

Fusing digital media and product design, Hyper(reality) offers an alternative perception of a user’s environment using an augmented reality helment in tandem with the Microsoft Kinect system. This digital experience shifts the user’s perception of their physical surroundings, allowing them to navigate through the 3D environment and encouraging new behavior and interaction within their real environment while immersing them in an entirely new world.

The suit is composed of a helmet with high definition video glasses, an Arduino glove with force sensors that controls the 3D view, and a harness for the kinect sensor. Designed and implemented for museum curation, Hyper(reality) allows the user to experience the architecture and various collections in an immersive and multi-sensory way.

Magical Man-Sized Box of Lovely Transparent Projections

4:03 pm in 未分类 by Chris-Burns

If you’ve never heard of holocube before, you’re in for a treat. This is a brand of products in their own category. Presentation machines I suppose you could call them, but projectors + projection booth + ultra-simplified computer to hold the projected video is what they are, and not just any projection booth – transparent glass for two-sided viewing. The model this post focuses on is the brand new HC70, a six foot tall box with a 70″ diagonal screen for full-sized human projections.

Each holocube is attached to a 40GB solid state harddrive that can store approximately 18 hours of uncompressed video at a bit rate of 4 Mb/s or 8 hours of compressed video at 9 Mb/s. This harddrive is set with a number of automatic functions such as automatic reboot upon power interruption and it’s supposedly completely immune to viruses (though, I’m not sure why that would matter since it’s not connected to a network.) It’s got a single switch to operate as all operations are pre-programmed, all content changed and uploaded via USB interface.

The brightness of the projector inside this huge box is 600 cd/m2 bright and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920. The computer running the projector runs on a Intel Dual Core 2.8 Ghz processor with Windows 7 Embedded, but again, that doesn’t matter as you won’t be accessing the computer at all. The bulk of the box is made of aluminum in either white or black matte powder coating, and the projection screen is made of a giant sheet of glass.

Take a peek at the videos below to see this and one other model holocube in action!

Minimalist 3D Camera is All Smiles

4:01 pm in 未分类 by Long Tran

If I came away with one one conclusion from this year’s CES, it’s 3D. For years companies have been talking about it but it seems 2011 is when it all comes to fruition and leading the initial wave are 3D cameras. The STEREOO concept gave us deja vu but this form factor and effervescent aesthetic is exactly what’ll get the general public excited about 3D. I love the minimalism and the humor of seeing a camera smiling back at you. The large display is capable of displaying 3D images and doubles as a touch interface. I want one now.

3D Glasses That Don’t Look It

4:29 pm in 未分类 by Long Tran

It’s clear from this year’s CES how important 3D will be and that means 3D glasses. For the most part, they’re still quite “techie” looking and definitely not for the discerning fashionista. The Del Rey & Co. 3D classes draw upon the classic lexington shape, properly disguised as high-fashion specs.

3D TulipK Lamp Was Made Using Microsoft Excel!

6:28 am in Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, Lights by Tanya

Microsoft is not very well received in the design community as its no secret that most design professional fancy anything that falls from the Apple tree. However product designer Ben Geebelen uses something as dull as Microsoft Excel to come up with something as gorgeous as the TulipK Lamp. This stunning piece of lighting is a result of Selective Laser Sintered in polyamide which in english means that the pattern was designed in Excel and the file in 3-matic.The shade has 6 tulip petals surrounding the light bulb and the designer used a spread sheet to determine the locations of all 2374 holes punching through one petal.

Edge Media Space Brings 3D Entertainment To Homes

5:55 pm in Home Theater, TV Stands & Home Theater by Tanya

Thanks to James Cameron's Avatar, everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon and honestly speaking the results have been less than stellar. However the Edge Media Space doesn't suffer from the same predicament as it seeks to enthrall the consumer with killer 3D graphical performance right in their living rooms. Designers Rudolf Stefanich, David Pflugl and Erol Kursani use their tech prowess to come up with a true third-dimensional cinematic experience and we can't wait for it to get out from the concept stage.

Edge Mediaspace Brings 3D Home Entertainment Technology to a Galaxy Near Ours

2:02 am in Home Theater, Living Room, Media, TV Stands & Home Theater, Tv by chris

The Edge Mediaspace is a furniture element that will forever change the way you design your living room since it will bring you the next-level of 3D home entertainment technology right to your house. Unfortunately the Edge Mediaspace is just a bold concept for now so it's not exactly available to order in stores. Besides 3D movies that will come to life in your own home, the Ede Mediaspace will be used for communication purposes, Internet browsing, and, why not, even gaming and it will definitely replace any big screen TV you might currently rely on to deliver the same perks.
