It is the future and we have invisible smart particles working over cloud computing, setting the standards for new-age gadgets and devices. With the flick of the wand, imagine drawing your gaming control or calculator with a pen-esque device called the Activator PC. Basically what you are doing is conjuring gadgets off thin air (infused with the smart particles) and activating apps and features according to your needs. For a user-experience-driven world that we live in, activating and visualizing magical interfaces as this, seem to be too farfetched. However, given the way we are progressing in the fields of science and technology, I’d bet my money that the future has a place for this concept.

To be honest, I saw a photo of this car’s inspiration before the vehicle itself and assumed it would be completely ridiculous… after all, who designs a Mercedes after a fish (a trout no less)?? But upon seeing the actual car, I had a complete change of heart! Though its inspiration is unexpectedly organic, the SLK Aphelios exhibits futuristic styling and a touch of fluid elegance that’s … well… very Mercedes-like!

Avoiding having a grumpy lover is the inspiration behind designer Francois Rybarczyk’s Cinna lamp! The lamp was designed to be used when you’re reading in bed while your significant other is trying to catch some Zzzzzs. The opaque shell twists to reveal an adjustable, subtle glow emitted from below that won’t disturb. Gotta love the combination of ceramic and cork materials together!

The SOL is a truly unique lighting solution that contrasts straight lines with flowing curves in an equally varied combination of materials: rigid steel and an über-flexible light panel. The EL panel is a mere 1.5 mm thick and its wave can be easily adjusted to direct light in any direction the user chooses.

The latest addition to the Peel series of kitchenware by HJC Design is this striking cordless kettle. The series is named after the way the surfaces appear to “peel” away to bring attention to the primary functionality of each unit- here the surfaces peels away to form the spout. Other features unique to the series are the kettle’s eye-catching LED accents and rippled surface that not only gives it a modern style but serve as an intuitive indication of where the user should fill with water.
The kettle boasts a 1750ml maximum water capacity, detachable base, auto-shut off and a flat stainless steel concealed element for fast boiling and easy cleaning.

Designer Adam Weaver describes Re:Fuse as an “anaerobic digestion unit” that reclaims gas from decomposing biological debris that would otherwise be lost. The gas collected can then be used for cooking. The user simply places food-waste in the unit and over time Re:Fuse will not only yield gas for cooking but usable fertilizer for growing more food!

Valentine’s Day is just a little bit less than two weeks away and it’s popping up in my mind. I always think about doing something fun and putting together a nice table, dinner, desserts, etc and then I get lazy. So maybe if I start now, I’ll have it all together by February 14th.
To get myself in gear, I rounded up some Valentine’s Day tables and displays for some inspiration. Maybe I’ll search for some printables to make things a bit easier!
What about you? Do you have anything up your sleeve for V-day??

Do you want a fresh look in your kitchen but you don’t want to take out a second mortgage to satisfy your need for freshness? There are quite a few budget-friendly things that you can do that will make a huge impact on the overall appearance of your kitchen. Not to mention, these are easy do-it-yourself projects you can complete on a lazy afternoon.
- Change Fixtures – Replacing your old, ordinary faucet with a contemporary one is a small change that makes a big difference. Opt for one that offers a low-flow option which will cut down on your water bill.
- Add a Backsplash – You can provide color, depth and even a pattern or theme to your kitchen by adding a backsplash to one wall. Be creative, experiment with more than one tile and choose colors that will bring your kitchen to life.
- Modernize Your Lighting – What do the light fixtures in your kitchen look like? Adding recessed lighting or hanging a chandelier or even pendant or waterfall fixtures can really make a strong statement.
- Replace Your Countertop – A stunning countertop can quickly become a focal point in any kitchen and replacing yours is not nearly as costly as you may imagine. Ceramic tiles are easy to install or you can look for materials such as stone or granite, keeping in mind that stone is much less expensive than granite.
- Paint a Wall – Sometimes just bringing a new color to one wall is all that you need to satisfy your redecorating urge.
Kitchens are the foundation of any home, yours should be one that you truly love to be in. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things, nothing is every permanent if you find you don’t love it later!

Erascan is a whiteboard eraser that scans the written matter on the board while erasing and saves it onto an inbuilt memory chip. The idea is to keep a digital copy of the drawings or notes handy for future reference. The device is programmed to automatically recognize handwriting, identify emails and web URLs. What’s more, it can share the saved data via email wirelessly!
The designers explain, “The design consists of an LCD screen to show the scanned information during the erasing process. It also displays a simple menu allowing the user to select other functions. Navigation control buttons are located below the LCD screen. The letter “e” and the light pipe around the device light up to show that Erascan is in power mode.”
