Invisible Fans

1:16 am in Bathroom, Wall by Radhika-Seth

Exhaust fans in bathrooms are a necessary evil that many interior designers struggle with. There is a way to make them invisible and completely disappear when not in use. Venti appears to be a regular tile on the outside, but is in fact a fan! Simply pop it open when you need it. Intuitive and functional is what I like to call it.

Features:

  • Uses ceramic tiles
  • Variant with depth of 10 mm
  • RGB LED indicator
  • Air is drawn into the side slot

Wall Sculpture Made for Touch

3:01 pm in Sculpture, Wall by Troy Turner

French artists Ora-ïto’s entry into the Wallpaper/Reebok exhibition in London this interesting wall installation composed entirely of the natural acrylic stone material HI-MACS. The material was chosen for its thermoforming capabilities that allowed the artist to work without restriction to create this stunning, 3D creation. According to the artist, the visual and tactile effect of sculpture’s surface are a representation of the “iconic sneaker soles” of the Reebox RealFlex shoe.

Getting Touchy with Time

8:04 pm in Wall by Radhika-Seth

Apple has really spoilt us silly with their groovy touch interface on phones and digital players. Taking this feel to the next level is designer Arash Karimi with his Wall and Bedside Table Touch Clock. The clock has a one giant App appeal and can be configured and navigated quite intuitively. What makes the design perfect for both wall-mount and bedside table, is the angled display. Sweet!

The Flow of Time

11:57 pm in Concept, Wall by Long Tran

The Time Flows clock is an “interesting” clock because it’s haunting how the hours and minutes trail behind. Problem is, even with the animation (hit the jump), I still have no idea how to read it. Any ideas? Here’s what the designer said; “This clock lets us know the hour and the minute but all the unncessary things.
There is a circle board in the middle. Only the 1/4 part of the whole is colored. The hour and minute hands do not exist. The only thing that turns is the circle board. Through that we can know the time.”

Cutting Edge Time

12:03 am in Wall by Radhika-Seth

The CuTime Wall Clock is a metaphoric representation of the circular saw. If we think about it, time is like a malleable element that can bend and shape into different meanings for different people. For some time is money, for some it is an eternity of solitude. So tell me, what would a cutting edge design like this mean to you?

CuTime is a toothed wheel that represents time as an essential component of
production. It is conceived as a critique of working time, it snaps presumption of a time constraint together with a claim for a professional result.

Eco-Decor

3:02 pm in Green, Wall by Troy Turner

These wall covering panels by WallArt are made out of bagasse, the fibrous residue of sugarcane, making them 100% recycled, compostable, and completely biodegradable. Every year more than 1 billion metric tons of sugarcane are collected for raw sugar. With up to 3 harvests per year, it is one of the most renewable sources available. The first to introduce this technology to the wall-decor market, WallArt provides an eco-friendly 3d effect that’s sure to sweeten any space.

Pandora-ish

3:03 pm in Green, Wall by Troy Turner

Imagine a waste bin (you heard me). Take that bin and fill it with compostable products like grass cuttings, tea bags, & cardboard (just do it). Now attach your new plant-worthy cell to the facade of an ugly building with thousands of other composting bins (don’t forget the plant).  You’re all finished! Now watch it grow, reduce CO2, collect rainfall for reuse, and transform your least favorite eyesores into a recycled, green, and overall cool looking structure. Now wasn’t that easy?

This, in essence, is what designer Stanislaw Mlynski was imagining when he designed the award winning Re-cell ecological wall. A big undertaking, maybe, but this design shows that there is relevant potential for similar modular systems in eco-cities of the future.

Paper Wall Clock

11:54 pm in Wall by Radhika-Seth

Amarillo2 is a handcrafted cardboard and paper wall clock, built beautifully with love and passion. The clock’s colorful hands break up the concentric rings and angles that look almost hypnotic. Don’t stare too hard. I also love the pizza-box packaging!
