A Day in the Life of … Steve Jobs?

8:08 pm in Video by Radhika-Seth

After reading the book, we all know what Job’s day was like … no power points, long walks to trash out problems, ritual lunch with Jony Ive, inspiring sessions with A-level executives, zero tolerance for bozos and shit products, rounded off with a vegan meal. But that was Steve … what about you? YD is curious to know what is your typical day like? Better still show it to us! Send us a video of a day in your life. Grab your iPhone or music player or digicam; just any recorder and capture how you deal with creative blocks, inspirational moments, eating lunch or hanging out with your friends; any theme will do.

General Guidelines

  • Record a video of what your typical day is like
  • The video has to be no more than 3 minutes long
  • Just have fun and basically give us an idea of how you like to spend your day
  • The good, the bad, the ugly… any approach will do as long as it is authentic

Suggested Themes

  • Dealing with creative blocks
  • Inspirations
  • Rituals that you follow
  • Stuff that ticks you off
  • Fun Day
  • A day with you!

Ode to the Journalist

The VJ CAM is specifically designed for video journalists, but I think most of us can benefit from it. The idea is to cut down the crew who handle the videography…mostly due to the current recession. The camcorder is built as modules and can be configured in a manner that suits the journalist. Each function is contained within a different module and the modules can be simply connected and interchanged according the requirements. For example the handle is an individual module, which can be positioned wherever it fits personal ergonomics best. The display is placed as a foldaway “hood” above the lens. An interesting concept that may work for the industry, what do you think?

Happy Halloween!

3:06 am in Video by Katie

Happy Halloween! Hope everyone had a good weekend…did anyone get stuck in the crazy October snow?

In lieu of the Halloween holiday, I thought I’d share the video above. You may have already seen it, but I can’t stop watching it! Party Rock Anthem is heard everywhere, but it’s still a fun watch.

I also thought I’d share one of my costumes this year:

It’s work-appropriate, comfortable and my pig nose even snorts! Although I wish I would have thought of this creative idea on my own, I found it on Yahoo! last week.

Did you dress up for work today?

AllSpark Storage Cabinet Is Mostly Wanted by Transformers, So Watch Out!

10:42 pm in Home Storage & Shelving, Home Theater, TV Stands & Home Theater, Video by chris

In case you haven't seen any of the Transformers movies then you probably aren't aware that the AllSpark is a very important device for the average Transformer robot. So be very careful when ordering such a storage cabinet for your home as the both the bad and good guys might be on the lookout for you. The AllSpark is supposed to be an audio/video cabinet that would hide all the gadgets that currently help out with your home entertainment needs. The AllSpark is best suited for your AV equipment although it would most definitely store other stuff as well. The AllSpark includes an infrared receiver that would let all your remotes control the gadgets inside. But again, make sure no Transformers are in sight when setting up this AllSpark cabinet. Who doesn't dream of coming home back from a hard days work, opening a cold can of beer, munching on popcorn and lying back and enjoying a movie? We all have our ways to escape but getting lost in the magical world of cinema is one of the best way to do it. Thus we decided to list some of the best home theater set-ups that may just motivate us to strike it rich!

This stunning and luxurious Home Theater Setup is the brainchild of Carmel, Indiana based Tri-Phase Technologies and an unnamed interior designer. The rounded central couch is a great alternative to individual chairs and would be ideal for some family time.

We are in love with the Home Theater with 180 degrees Rotating Floor by Casa Cinemas. The setup actually rotates in a very James Bondish kind of style as the 16-foot circle of flooring is fitted with four motors and wheels! It also features a .1-channel audio system powered by a Marantz SR8500.

The force will always be with you with this one! Check out this Star Wars HT setup, which will even do George Lucas proud!

The setup includes 300-inches diagonal screen, 8 large speakers concealed as rocks, and some powerful amps! Bring the neighborhood down with this one!

The RuF Cinema Multimedia Bed is not your traditional set up but we don't care as nothing screams decadence than watching your favorite movie the way it is suppose to be from the comfort of your bed! The integrated AV rack at the front is designed to be equipped with a projector, a gaming console, an home entertainment system and even a LCD!

The Indoor Pool Home Theater is nothing short of brilliant ! Using an unused pool works thanks to its sloped floors. This particular setup includes a 106-inch Draper screen suspended from the room's ceiling and a Marantz mounted projector.

This one is quite a relief from all the fancy and high-tech setup as it pays tribute to the original tube! This belongs to the former owner of NBA Television, Ed Desser and the entire setup includes eighteen tube TVs, an old reel to reel tape player / recorder, along with a Draper film screen, a Sony projector and JBL speakers.

Trekies will love this one. Modeled after the Enterprise NCC-1701D from Star Trek: The Next Generation, this home theater setup features motion-activated air-lock doors with series sound effects, a Crestron TPMC-10 controller, "one of the largest Kaleidescope hard-drive based storage systems" which can take up to a whopping 3,816 DVDs!
