Useful Yacht

3:01 pm in Travel, Vacation by Troy Turner

A winner of the 2011 “Dreamboat” Millennium Yacht Design Award, this brave interpretation of the motor boat concept by designer Hyun-Seok Kim was inspired by all of the natural beauty and fun activities found at sea. Tofi’s unconventional shape and unique furnishings compliment it’s far-out exterior and spaceship aesthetic, stimulating the imagination on board, while features like the hide-away diving board and safety buoy system promote fun in the water.

At Home in the Trees

3:02 pm in Architecture, Travel, Vacation by Troy Turner

OMG OMG OMG I love these treehouses! Or Treehotel, rather. Located in Harads, Sweden, this unique collection of hotel rooms is sure to bring you back to your childhood days of club-housing and hide-and-go-seek. Nestled high in the woods, there is a room for every personality: the Cabin, Blue Cone, Bird’s Nest, and most intriguing of all, the Mirrorcube (if you can find it).

Travelling with a Closet

5:00 pm in Closet, Travel by Radhika-Seth

One of the first things to do when I check into a hotel is to unpack my bags and inspect the closet. I hate to leave my suitcase messy and prefer to arrange clothes neatly in drawers. The flipside is unpacking takes time. The Traveler’s Closet is intended to solve this problem. The case is designed as drawers and the handle lengthens to host hangers. The only thing is I hope it doesn’t end up wrinkling my clothes.

Innovative Office Workstation and Resting Sleep Box

5:00 am in Design, General, office, Sleep, Travel, Urban, Workstations by John

It's hard not to get excited about Sleepbox, an office workstation and resting pod designed for public places like train stations, airports and bus terminals. These small pods are rental units that provide travelers peace and quite as well as a place to work. More aggressive urban areas may even consider these for use on the streets or as a solution for the homeless. Sleepbox comes equipped with wi-fi, electric plugs, TV, a ventilation system and charging sockets for cell phones. The bed linen is changed automatically to ensure proper hygiene standards are kept. Currently, there is construction of these units in the Dubai airport with hopefully more places to follow. More information: here.

To carbon offset, or not?

7:06 pm in Climate change, Co2 emissions, Good things to do, Travel by Nigel

Christmas is fast approaching and I am looking back at 2009, at whether I can be more planet friendly, reduce my carbon footprint and be more sustainable in my living. This year I've been pretty good: shopping locally, cutting back on things like meat, walking more, and switching off as much as possible at home and at work. The odd holiday splurge is the one thing that leaves a nasty
