Roaring 2010s Table

From looking at the Elvis table, I assumed that its name and curvaceous form were inspired by the famous singer’s quaft doo! To my honest disappointment, it was just a coincidence! The design is actually a semi-reproduction of a 1920s piece the commissioner had taken a photo of, but with designer David Savage’s own unique design language. It captures the 20s distinctive cultural edge in a modern form that’s simply beautiful.

Doodle-able Table

The Matchbox table was named for its unique resemblance to an old-school matchbox created by its contrasting materials. It merges playfulness with modern elegance in an occasional table you can write on. On one end, raw wood makes a clean surface for placing objects, and on the other is a chalkboard surface for drawing, scribbling ideas, or creating your own unique designs!

Crazy About Cork

Cork isn’t just the stuff of wine bottles, it’s also a unique & healthy method of farming & material sourcing… not to mention- infinitely recyclable, naturally waterproof, buoyant, & fire resistant. The Rolha (Portuguese for the stopper used in wine bottles) table taps into the unique nature of the material, & consists of just 3 legs & a solid, turned cork top. Each leg is fitted with a screw similar to a wine key, so the user simply has to twist each one into place!

Undetectable Table

The Bordus coffee table takes surprising inspiration from the lines and angles of Stealth Fighters, applying these geometries to form a striking sculptural piece. The polarizing design may appear complex at first glance but is quite simple in form and construction! Nest-able side by side, unique combinations can be created by repeating tables to fit a variety of different sized and shaped spaces.

There’s the bookshelf, there’s the desk… and then there’s the Bookdesk. As the name suggest, it merges the functionality of both into a compact workspace that’s great for small spaces. The minimal form goes to show that even a slight modification of an already simple structure can give objects an entirely new purpose! It’s perfect for a referencing your books quickly while you work or putting your favorite reads on display.

Industrial Elegance

The WELDED Table, a Red Dot Design Award Best of the Best recipient, leaves little to be desired in both substance and aesthetic. The design is based around the use of a minimal amount of material and simplified construction process. The tridimensional shape of the legs is achieved with a near-invisble weld that gives it a sleek, refined look while providing structural strength. Loving it in neon!

Purely White and Wood

This reinvention of the Gispen Today collection by Thijs Smeets combines advanced production techniques with contemporary & eloquent design- a radically different approach for a brand known for its tubular steel frames. The series of chair, sofa, stool, table, wall rack, magazine holder, & even an umbrella stand are characterized by chamfered plywood contrasted with bright white molded shells or fabric. While different than Gispen’s usual chromed out look, each piece maintains a clean, modern aesthetic.

D*Haus’ D*Table is a functional 3D puzzle inspired by the Haberdashers Formula! Discovered by English mathematician Dudeney in 1903, it turns a perfect square into an equilateral triangle by dissecting the square into four distinct shapes. Dudeney’s achievement lay dormant in mathematical textbooks for over 100 years, but when applied to modern design, the possibilities are endless! Functionally flexible, this coffee table adapts to any space while encouraging play and user interaction.

Synthetically Strong, Naturally Tough

Ramus, latin for “tree branch,” is a sculptural piece that combines the strongest of man-made materials with the natural structural advantages of a tree’s branches. The carbon fiber, steel and Kevlar-reinforced base is virtually indestructible, yet has a misleadingly delicate aesthetic. In gloss or satin finishes, it’s a super chic addition to the modern office.

Thomas Feichnter’s design strategy for the Fino collection was to eliminate the heavy and massive quality typical of solid wood furniture while retaining its constructive materiality. Each piece is characterized by an overall quality of lightness achieved by straight elements and joints as well as conically shaped table edges and legs that are tapered toward the floor. When combined they create cohesive solutions but individual items also make a great compliment to existing furniture.

Besides providing a proper place to eat, many times the table also serves as a center point for entertaining guests. This ingenious convertible furniture piece is perfect for compact spaces, instantly transforming from 3 person sofa to 6 person dining table. Simply unfold the top/back, remove the cushions, & expand their legs to create a comfortable space to eat, play a card game, or enjoy other group activities.

… but that’s the intention! The Equilibrium collection by Andre Cruz has a simplistic, utilitarian aesthetic that is given a sense of lightness and clever character with oddly placed legs. The bulk of each design appears to be supported by just a tiny edge of each leg, creating a striking visual sensation, but in actuality it’s a hidden metal support that stabilizes each corner. The unique construction allows for interesting geometries and angular accents that contrast with the bare upper portions.

Levitating Table

Designed with eyes on the future, this striking table was inspired by the Maglev train’s use of magnetic technology and applies the same levitating principles to a functional, futuristic dining table. Using an electromagnetic suspension system, the table levitates above a steel plate while electromagnets attached to the table are oriented toward the plate from below. The user can easily change table height by adjusting the strength of the magnetic field.

Bedside Beauty

The simplistic Decale bedside table is a thoughtful design composed entirely of reclaimed beechwood and pine taken from used pallets. The construction is traditional in shape with slight differences in the angle (and color) of the legs that give it just a touch of modernity. Using repurposed wood means each table has a unique character with its own imperfections and subtle differences.

The design, inspired by the origami fold of the same name, transforms from a flat sheet of paper into a functional, robust piece of furniture in one quick, straightforward folding process.
