Succession Furniture Collection

The eccentric pieces in this new upholstered furniture collection by Fredrik Färg stimulate the imagination with their animal-like form and feeling of movement. The textile and leather shelving and stools even have all the markings of a beast of burden. Individual pieces are bound in rope, heated, and then cut loose to produce a seamless pattern that is as harsh as it is civilized. According to Färg, they’ve become the family he “never knew he had.”

Rubber as a material for high end furniture hardly aspires confidence but that is certainly not the case with the Rubber Stool. Designed by Japanese studio h220430, the stool has been made entirely of recycled rubber and no you won't be subjected to the smells of burnt tires. There is also no doubt that rubber as a material also brings to the vanguard a rare flexibility which is displayed clearly in the Rubber Stool. The stool can be shaped or bended in any shape and when not in use can just be rolled up to save space. The Rubber Stool demonstrates how intelligent design and radical thinking is seeping in the consumer market as well and recycling is not just a trend and is gaining a strong foothold in every aspect of design.

Hockerbank Stool and Bench Design Stars Stools Undercover

The Hockerbank Stool and Bench product relies on the smart use of multiple bar stools of different sizes. As you can see in the images below, the stools play an important part in the whole design. They go undercover, or better said under planks of different sizes and thus you end up with an improvised table and a couple of benches that can be used outdoors or indoors for a quick snack or a full blown barbeque party. In order for the Hockerbank design to work as shown in the images below you'd need at least six stools and three planks of wood, but they all have to come in different sizes. Once your guests leave you'll be able to dismantle the Hockerbank bench and table and neatly deposit all the parts in your garage or storage room. Via Johanna Dehio

Western industrial designers are constantly seeking inspiration from the exotic east and their cultural heritage. Australian company, Zaishu's Asian inspired series of flat-pack stools/chairs/tables adapt eastern aesthetics for western sensibilities by employing historic iconography, silkscreen hand printed artwork and even Asian design techniques.

Rotterdam designer Roeland Otten's collection of alphabet chairs should be hit with all the wordsmiths out there. Called ABChairs, the series includes 26 chairs, each spelling out one letter of the alphabet. For now the designer is using lacquered MDF as his choice of material but he is also open to other materials like plastic.

Marcel Wanders Unveils Eden And Babel Series For xO

As purveyors of the modern A&D scene, Marcel Wanders has always been one of our favorites. His recent collections once again proves why Wanders is a design force to reckon with. The "Eden" and "Babel" collections may have Biblical names but thats where the religious connotations end. Developed in conjunction with the French Furniture company xO, the former is a series of vases, tables and stools while the latter a collection of chairs. For Babel, Wanders had worked with materials like wood, plastic, acrylic and for Eden he has favored glass and ceramic.

Writing all the time on Furniture Fashion, it is not often that we come across round furniture arrangements compared to the more typical square or rectangular shapes. Offices and public spaces that are seeking round or circular spatial relationships in their seating needs may be drawn to this type of arrangement. This product is called "Kurve" and was designed by Niels Gammelgaard. The design inspiration for Kurve came from a garden complex in Barcelona, Spain called Park Guell. The counter or bar height stools are available with a wood or metal base with a seat that is made of laminated plywood of graduated thickness from 15 to 5 layers at the perimeter of the shell. Reissued in exacting detail from the original drawings and molds these classic stools are strong, lightweight and like the original, made entirely in the U.S.A.
