Simple and Timeless Furniture

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool, Table by Troy Turner

When it comes to furniture, I love pieces that are organic in form but sharp enough to fit into the starkest of spaces. This line of furniture by escapefromsofa achieves this balance through style characterized by simplicity, and natural shapes in warm walnut and oak. The bookshelf, stool, side table and chair each have clear Scandinavian influence expressed through phenomenal craftsmanship.

Comfort VS Trend

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

Simple curves & subtle movements are the philosophy behind this whimsical design by Dutch brand Lonc. The Seaser chair and Teaser stool were specifically designed to minimize effort & physical discomfort while avoiding trend, staying clear of style timelines but maintaining unchanging comfort quality. Upon sitting, the user will find that they are automatically put into an open & extroverted seating position as they are safely embraced by firm armrests. Lightweight & moveable, the design is also completely recyclable.

Everything in Tandem

11:13 pm in Furniture, Living, Stool, Table by Long Tran

Tandem is a storage space, a seat and a side table all at once. It just depends on how you use it. Multifunctional is the name of this game. Store your laptop, phone, books and magazines inside the cubby holes. A work top rotates 360º to become a quick workstation and use the whole thing as a stool too. Made of white oak, it imparts a sense of refinement. The wood isn’t heavily treated. The core however is made of aluminum to provide strength. Like it?

Smiling Stool Gives Hope

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

The Smile Stool is the result of a study on the declining Indonesian furniture industry, that in recent years has had incredible difficulty competing its handmade craftsmanship against China’s mass manufactured products. In addition, the more than 3500 Indonesian companies often end up with huge amounts of excess material that often ends up as firewood. Using the waste in the construction & streamlining a simple assembly process, this sustainable design gives hope to the industry & provides a solution for the survival of the local craftsman.

Serpentine Stool

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

This curvaceous design known as The BCN stool is a collaboration between emerging design team Harry&Camila and established Italian design house Kristalia. The ultra contemporary ergonomic seat, molded from specially designed plastic meant to withstand wear, tear, solvents and heat, is met with natural wooden legs and supporting braces. A nice contrast of modern and traditional that is as sturdy as it is handsome and comfortable.

Sensible Seating

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool, Table by Troy Turner

I love me some bamboo… in the garden, as a wall, as an edible shoot, & when it’s incorporated intelligently into interior elements like the Bamboo Cell collection. This Red Dot winner brings traditional and modern materials together to create seating that is organic in form as well as durable and enduring. Utilizing bamboo in a nontraditional manner, the collection allows the user to appreciate, from a different perspective, the characteristic hollowness of the stalks shown through the stool’s resin top as well as the fibrous texture of the exterior on the bench’s seat.

Creepy Crawly Seating Creature

10:10 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

When it comes to unique seating, the Millipede by Michael Samoriz takes the cake. This arthropodic stool looks like a science experiment that escaped and headed straight for the bar. I’m still not sure how many legs it has, but it’s a lot, and the user will feel more like a “rider” than a “sitter.” Though the legs look randomly placed they are situated to provide maximum stability, so unless the rider is rocking to and fro with wild abandon they should be just fine. Me likey.

A Tack for a Beach Chair

3:01 pm in Outdoor, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

The Tack bench and chair series by Monocomplex is a new approach to convenient beachfront seating. The sharp pointed bottom half makes it easy to place the chair in the sand while side handles allow the user to effortlessly pull the unit out. Not only is it lightweight and transportable, but the center hole makes this design stackable for quick and easy storage. Sure to make bums happy at your next beach party.

Puzzle Chair

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

The Pallares chair by designer Carlos Cordoba is the result of a research to develop new materials from natural fibers. Each chair is composed of 3 identical parts cast from a natural fiber tetera and polyester resin composite. The interchangeable parts can snapped together like puzzle pieces for easy assembly, disassembly, and storage.

Chool

9:24 pm in Modern Seating, SixDW: A New Beginning, Stool by Lyn

Chool is a half chair / half stool seating arrangement from Slam.

In resting mode, it is a modern stool that can be stored underneath tables and desks. When someone sits down on the Chool, the entire seat descends a few inches to be at standard seat height. As it descends, the Chool has a back that rises. When the person rises, the Chool goes back to its resting position. However, there is a button that locks the position of the Chool.

As seen in the first image, there are several different varieties of Chool available, made with all different materials in different styles.

The Chool is completely made in Britain, near London, and all products and fabrics come from Britain as well. Slam is an industrial design company that was started in 2007 by James Lucas.
