Not Just Shells

4:03 pm in Organic by Chris-Burns

The project you’re about to lay eyes on is not a nut. It’s not a shell either. Nor is it even organic. Nay! It is a nut cracker, and it has a name: Handy Nut. This lovely and elegant piece of industrial design sculpture is made our of a full porcelain cast, made to be conveniently ergonomic and smooth and gentle to the touch. Have you ever in your whole live seen such a classy cracker of nuts?

This project was created during a general workshop class tutored by Lena Dubinsky in the department of ceramic design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem.

Healthier Eating for Man’s Best Friend

9:19 am in Natural, Organic, Pets, food by Katie Nielsen

MEH Readers, meet Oliver. He’s a feisty Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix that joined our little family shortly after my husband and I were married two and a half years ago. As any smitten pet owner does, I like to spoil him, mostly in the form of daily walks to the park accompanied with rousing rounds of [...]

Making Sense Amid The Green Labels

5:13 am in Eco Friendly, Fair Trade, Green, Natural, Organic by Katie Nielsen

When I decided to begin making the switch from certain conventional foods to organic, I found myself completely confused and overwhelmed at the number of green labels found just at my local supermarket. “All natural,” “fair trade,” “organic”…what does it really all mean? And how in the world was I supposed to tell which were [...]
