The Shopper

4:44 am in Modern Furniture by Katie

Lately, I love anything glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, etc. If you can see through it, I love it!

So when I saw the Shopper over on Designspotter this week, I was instantly intrigued. Made of hand-welded, body-tinted glass, the design of the Shopper is inspired by – you guessed it – a shopping bag! Although they say it is designed for different uses and is multipurpose – I’m not sure what I’d use it for other than a fun piece. How about you?

The Shopper is a designed by Enrico Severi of Italy.

Everyone Wishes for Silver and Gold

12:07 am in Modern Furniture by Katie

I’ve got Christmas music on the brain, and nothing suits the Silver and Gold tune better than these beautiful stools. They’re made by Koket, the same company that makes the flashy furniture mentioned in Friday’s Weekly Six.

Known as the Mandy Stool, the stools are upholstered in plush black velvet and available with either a stainless steel or polished brass base. The design is inspired by a cuff bracelet. Which I love because if I had a glamorous vanity, I would totally want one of these to sit on while putting on my makeup and jewelry for a big night out.

And since I wouldn’t be able to choose between silver OR gold, I’d take silver AND gold. Aren’t they just so appropriate for this time of year?

Which would you choose?

A Little of This, A Little of That

1:06 am in Modern Furniture, Transitional by Katie

As you know, I love me some modern furniture. But I also don’t mind switching things up a bit every once in a while. So, a few weeks ago when I was introduced to Cymax Furniture, I had no problem spending time (probably too much time) surfing through their website. Needless to say, I was nowhere near bored, as Cymax has tons and tons of products.

You can see above that Cymax has a bunch of modern finds to suit my taste, but I also found plenty of transitional furniture that I would consider putting in my home. (Like a poker table. Who wouldn’t want a poker table? I think I need one!)

One of the main reasons I like Cymax Furniture is that exact diversity. While I typically lean towards more modern furniture, shopping on a site with tons of different options encourages me to have an open mind and expand my horizons to other styles.

What about you? What style of furniture do you typically lean towards? Stay up to date with Cymax and see what different styles their offering by following them on Facebook.

Reverse Dowry

8:07 pm in Modern Furniture by Katie

Can you imagine having this coffee table in your living room? It would instantly be the talk of any party, or even when someone stopped by for a quick visit.

Designed by Axel Yberg of Akke Functional Art, this structural modern coffee table, named the Reverse Dowry, was made as a gift for his mother-in-law. Reverse Dowry is made from oiled recycled ipe wood, stainless cable, aluminum and glass for the top. I think Akke Functional Art couldn’t be a more perfect name – because that’s exactly what it this table is – functional art!

In addition to the Reverse Dowry, Axel Yberg has recently added 13 new pieces to his website, which are even more awesome than this coffee table – if that was even possible!

Head over to his website to check them out – you won’t be disappointed!

The San Andreas Coffee Table is a modern coffee table inspired by the tectonic fault in California that runs between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate.

It is made from solid oak wood with a split down the middle in a zig zag design that replicates the fault. The table opens to a lime green interior that allows for ample storage.

The San Andreas Coffee Table is designed by Ricardo Garza of Mexico.

The Form Follows Function Sofa is a modern step away from the ordinary cushioned sofa.

Designed by Daan Mulder, the Form Follows Function Sofa was inspired by the “craze for organic liquid and forms.” Mulder’s “aim was to create a sofa where all functions arise out of one current line.” ( http://www.daanmulder.eu/FFF_bank_11.html)

The Form Follows Function Sofa is made from three steel plates that are each 1.5 millimeter thick. A silver paint gives the modern sofa its final look.
