Afraid of Your Own Shadow?

11:03 pm in Modern Chairs, SixDW: A New Beginning by Lyn

How about the Shadow Chair?

Available through Duffy London, the Shadow Chair is a unique dining chair that appears to be defying gravity by standing on two legs. Take a closer look and you’ll see the shadow of the chair is actually the base of the chair and integrated into the design.

Made of powder-coated mild steel, the Shadow Chair is available in a variety of finishes, including a special edition polished stainless steel version. There is also a Shadow Sofa and a Wolf Within (Shadow Chair) to complete the Shadow Collection.

How many friends and family members do you think you can fool with these illusionary chairs?

Duffy London is a furniture design company started by Chris Duffy in 2002. For more information, visit the Duffy London website at http://www.duffylondon.com.

Prooff’s EarChair Creates Space Within Space

9:32 am in Chairs, Chairs & Bar Stools, Modern Chairs, Modern Design by Tanya

The sculpturistic EarChair is all about creating a space within a space and epitomizes Dutch company Prooff's penchant for designing furniture that encourages "intimate dialogue for public space," . Apart from the expressive minimalism and the path-breaking form factor, the EarChair will offer stimulation to any given environment. The upholstered mammoth lounge chair is available in a plethora of sizes and though Prooff doesn't use any complex techniques it still manages to look fairly ceremonial. The chairs are available in a number of shades and fabric choices and according to Prooff that diverse fabrics "allow for every room to take on its own personal character."

Lullaby Chair By Sand & Birch Is Stunning

3:03 am in Chairs, Chairs & Bar Stools, Modern Chairs, Modern Design by Tanya

The visually stunning Lullaby Chair by Sand & Birch wants to lull you into blissful oblivion with its ergonomically designed form factor. Designed by Andrea Fino and Samanta Snidaro from Sand & Birch studio, Lullaby brings a contemporary twist to the archaic armchair. Meshing monochromatic elements with minimalism is always foolproof and the design team capitalizes on this brilliantly. Interestingly the chair pays homage movie sets and has been varnished hard polyurethane.

Says Andrea Fino and Samanta Snidaro:

"Lullaby is also a tribute to movie sets and suggestions belonging to our collective imagination, and the musical quote in its name is perfect for describing the energy concept of its shape."
