Furnishings on Fire

4:02 pm in Desk, Furniture, Led, Lighting, Shelves, Shelving, Table by Troy Turner

While LED light is energy efficient and long lasting, it can also be hard to look at! With this in mind, Estudi Arola’s BlancoWhite series of table-top bookcases, shelving and wall lamps feature hidden strips of LED that are focused toward the center of each piece, creating a warm, indirect glow that won’t blind the viewer. It’s a versatile collection that’s as beautiful in the dark as it is in the light.

Pieces in the series consist of thin metal casings, 1 cm thick, that house sheets of methacrylate on two sides to accommodate the LED light strips. The internal surface of each sheet is woven with micro incisions by laser that are more subtle on the edges and deeper toward the center to achieve a plane with a certain concavity that is lit evenly.

Another Huggable Light

4:01 pm in Led, Light, Lighting by Radhika-Seth

On the lines of the dºlight Huggable pillow (makes an excellent Christmas present), we have here the In Soft pillow. The difference lies in the intuitive way the lights go on and off with a simple touch. Thanks to the LED lights used, heat is no longer a problem with touching lighting interfaces. Would love me one, just to celebrate this special occasion of Diwali…the ultimate festival of lights! Happy Diwali YD readers!

The In Soft is Koizumi Lighting Award winner.

Accurate Warning!

3:53 pm in Led, Outdoor by Radhika-Seth

I have seen plenty of warning sign concepts and some innovative enough to include LED. But this one takes the cake for being simple and effective! Just look at it, the sign indicates exactly which way you need to divert by pointing out an LED Arrow to the right direction. Left or right…you get to set it, depending upon your broken-down vehicle’s position. Awesome!

Laced with LED

11:28 pm in Lamp, Led, Lighting by Radhika-Seth

Tiny little LEDs dotting the inner realm of a lampshade, you can only imagine the mesmerizing effect it’s going to create. The LED Shade Lamp is just this; no bulbs, no holder, but a handful of twinky lights doing their thing. I love the way Peter describes it, “the shade itself becomes the source of light.”

Mod Light

7:16 pm in Lamp, Led, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

This contemporary and functional modular lighting concept allows users to create the perfect arrangement depending on size or intention. Suspended from the ceiling or adapted to a table lamp base, the object can live 2-dimensionally or the components can be rotated and conjoined creating a unique 3-D form. I love the floating “chemical structure” look of the finished product.

Light Baby

5:02 pm in Lamp, Led, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

I know you’ve heard of or maybe even met the white stork, but have you heard of the black stork? It’s the inspiration behind designer Rainer Bachschmid’s “Ciconia” light. Two symmetrical segments bear a reflective stainless steel strip opposite it’s thirty LEDs seamlessly and are encased within an aluminum powder-coated body that very much resembles a beak.  This minimalist light sculpture will grace any space with luminous elegance.

Smitten by the Lobot

10:26 pm in Desk, Home, Lamp, Led, Lighting by Radhika-Seth

With its charismatic Wall-E eyes for lights, the Lobot is the cutest robotic lamp I’ve have seen. A body constructed out of anodized aluminum and “robust and well engineered hinge system”, this lamp can be maneuvered into different positions with gliding ease. I simply love its minimal design and its no-fuss attitude, looks as if it were made to banish all darkness surrounding your desk! I need to get this one.

Déjà vu LED?

5:52 pm in Green, Lamp, Led, Lighting by Radhika-Seth

The prolific design hub Art Lebedev is out with another of its creation and design-wise it’s got a major Philips hangover! I’m talking about the Optogan LED Lamp. To quote the studios, “the lamp combines classic ideas with advancements in microelectronics.” Anyways, the lamp features a radiator encasing that is designed as a set of ridges, which help in dissipating heat. These energy saving bulbs come as 40 & 60 watts. Simply love their organic form!

Only The Essentials, Haworth LIM Light

4:03 pm in Lamp, Led, Lighting by Long Tran

We’ve written a lot about minimalism but what is it? To say it’s simply stripped down and devoid of the frivolous is inaccurate. We’ve all seen designs that embody that statement, yet fail in all intentions. When I got my hands on Haworth’s awarding winning LIM Light, I knew minimalism. It’s the removal of the non-esssential to embrace and enhance the functional. The LIM Light embodies it and has become one of my favorite products of the year.

Haworth’s LIM Light is a multipurpose LED task light with a magnetic base allowing for multiple configurations. The minimalist design won the coveted 2010 Gold IDEA award for its innovative use of LED lighting. Essentially made of just LED’s and block aluminum, the simple material usage is efficient and recyclable.

The LED diodes are arranged on a strip along an aluminum arm. The arm magnetizes to an aluminum base. The mechanism by which the two connect enables you to easy adjust how you want the light. No need for screws, slides or other mechanical apparatuses. This simple approach spotlights what the primary function should be – illumination.

I’ve had it on my desk for nearly a year. Being the editor of an ID blog means I get to try out a lot of things so my desk is constantly finding new visitors. Once in awhile a visitor becomes a resident because it’s everything I want and the LIM is one of those products. Only one other lamp (by Herman Miller) has caught my fancy but the LIM strikes a chord with my minimalist nature. It actually beckons my desk to be cleaner and all by itself, has become the centerpiece. Even my MacBook Pro looks unremittingly complicated under the LIM.

Aesthetic simplicity aside, it’s actually very easy to use. To turn on, just press a small integrated button on the diode strip. Press it twice to increase the illumination.  It’s pure white light and each diode is consistently even in intensity – a testament to the build quality.

If you’re wondering, LIM stands for “light in motion.” Absolutely brilliant!

Add a touch of glamour in your dining room by getting the chic and high-tech LED lighted tables by Ozzio. The Flat and e-Motion LED lit tables are part of the LED series and highlight the harmonized convergence of design and technology beautifully. At first glance, the conventional yet contemporary shape of the tables may not impress but once lit up, the table transforms into a piece of art. The diffused lighting creates an almost sublime environment and disentangles the table from the ordinary. While the Flat Table is available in glass or lamix tabletops the e-Motion on the other hand has a stunning mirrored tabletop with an electric adjustable height.
