A Lamp for Sleeping Lovers

4:03 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

Avoiding having a grumpy lover is the inspiration behind designer Francois Rybarczyk’s Cinna lamp! The lamp was designed to be used when you’re reading in bed while your significant other is trying to catch some Zzzzzs. The opaque shell twists to reveal an adjustable, subtle glow emitted from below that won’t disturb. Gotta love the combination of ceramic and cork materials together!

Lightwaves

The SOL is a truly unique lighting solution that contrasts straight lines with flowing curves in an equally varied combination of materials: rigid steel and an über-flexible light panel. The EL panel is a mere 1.5 mm thick and its wave can be easily adjusted to direct light in any direction the user chooses.

Light Metamorphosis

4:01 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

Using a polyjet printer allowed designers at Voxel Studio to use a variety of materials with unique properties and textures to create the Cocoon lamp. The lamp’s organic form is truly a representation of its unique construction- similar to the way caterpillars use fast hardening liquid from their spinnerets to build their cocoon shells, the polyjet applies liquid photopolymer through nozzles which then hardens in UV light.

Big Bold Lamp

4:02 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

Raising Lanterns take the form of stacked cylindrical shapes reminiscent of classic lamp shades only without the base. The interchangeable cylinders come in both floor and pendant lamp designs and can be rearranged in a number of combinations to suit the user’s taste. Don’t be deceived by its size and volume though, this design is actually flat-pack ready!

Inner Beauty

4:02 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

Plenty of lighting designs utilize reflective plates to maximize their output and direction, but none do it quite like the Eclipitic Lamp. A metal cone delicately descends inside an acrylic passage, reflecting the beam from above outwards. The intensity of the the light increases or decreases depending on the position of the reflective cone which changes in clear view of the user through its clear tubular casing.

In the Mood for Neon

6:44 pm in Lamp, Lighting by Radhika-Seth

Adding a third dimension to bendable neon tubes can have spectacular results. I’m talking about the Neon Tetra, a mood lamp that breaks the 100 year old tradition of glass tube bending only in 2 D. Vibrant and soulfully geometric, the lamp looks Über cool in pink, blue, red, green and yellow hues. As the designers point out, “looks high tech, cold to touch & consumes lesser power compared to light bulbs.” Me wants!

Not For Arachnophobes

4:02 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

Even if you’re afraid of spiders, there’s no denying the beauty of this unique pendant lamp. Webster is made completely out of hot-glue strands using a dab-and-stretch technique (and a whole lotta patience!). The countless strands form an intricate orb that diffuses the light, reducing glare and softening the ambient glow. Do want!

Sustainable Streetlamp

4:02 pm in Lamp, Lighting by Troy Turner

Sculptural sidewalk element by day and super-efficient streetlamp by night, the Windtulip is a great example of one of the many changes we can make in our public areas in order to reach environmental sustainability. Harnessing the power of the wind, compact turbines generate and transmit energy from transformer to battery before the lamp’s light-sensors activate the LED.

Alien Artifact or Lamp?

4:01 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

The TOTO Twins lamp series looks more like missing components to an alien spacecraft than a lamp! You’ll dig this lamp if you’re into futuristic style that’s even a little strange. The first of the two lamps consists of two sculptural parts and an asymmetrical “head” that rotates to create various levels of light intensity. The second lamp’s fluid, metallic top hovers above and appears to drip onto the industrial looking sculptural body below.

Sand Shine

4:01 pm in Lamp, Light, Lighting by Troy Turner

The Desert Storm lamp’s use of sand as the main material provides an organic feel in both appearance and touch. The shape of these sand-molded lamp shades brings to mind primitive dessert dome dwellings and the fixture’s overall figure resembles plants that blossom near the Mediterranean seashore. Though they look fragile, the shades’s strength partners with that of the fixture’s metal pole.
