Blood Sucking Glucose Monitor

No matter your age, having a finger pricked to measure your blood sugar levels is scary! Also, no matter your age, you gotta love a tamagotchi! This creative glucose monitoring system combines the two, making the process of pricking fingers as fun as it possibly can be. Simply place a finger inside the cute vampire character’s mouth, push slowly to activate the needle, & touch the strip. The smartphone/tablet app will sync & analyze the data while an animated vampire pops up to deliver the results!

Meet the Brusheads

Better yet, after the toy has outlived its life, you can send it back to be reclaimed again to build new toys and receive a 10% reimbursement!

Reductive Rocking Horse

The essence of the iconic rocking horse is instantly recognizable in this minimal twist by Remko Verhaagen and Stephen Boom for Blooey. Maybe not as comfortable as the original style, but it’s easy to produce, ship and put together. It might not look anything like the rocking horse that you and I grew up with, but modern design-minded kids and parents will love it!

There are two things that almost every parent/newborn has – a baby monitor and mobile. Why not combine the two?! This was the challenge driving designer Denny Tsai to create the Aegis mobile/monitor combination. As a toy, the device keeps newborns pacified, but its embedded video camera also provides parents a bird’s eye view of the crib that no other monitor on the market currently provides.

The hand-crafted Imajen Tools set aims to inspire an attitude of responsibility and sustainability by not only encouraging kids to interact with nature, but to understand the detrimental effects to the environment caused by plastics. Unlike generic plastic toys that usually get thrown away, the wooden tools make for a great looking hand-me-down that also instill a sense of play and exploration.

Baboo is a sweet childrens’ toy-kit that contains clips of different shapes that, when combined with the child’s drawings, creates a sort of “puppet theatre.” was motivated by the many children of the town Sderot near Gaza who suffer from post-traumatic symptoms because of the area’s violence and bombing by terrorist organizations. Not just a fun escape for the kids, but a great diagnostic and therapeutic tool.

Cart For As You Grow

In this day and age of modularity fittings, it only makes sense to invest in products that can go beyond their obvious function. For example, the Monocart looks to be a simple child buggy, but as the child grows and out-grows the simple pleasures of being pushed around in a chair, making it a multi functional extends the useful life of this cart. It becomes a cart for wheeling groceries or a stroller; even a gardening stool. How about that!

Interactive Sound Sculpture

Who doesn’t remember makeshift telephones made of wire and cans? The Invoxicated interactive play sculpture is a bit like that, but a bit more complex, a lot cooler looking, and it actually works! Children can explore the playful qualities of sound by talking into one end of the sculpture to produce sound for the listener on the other end. By bending parts of the sculpture and pressing its various buttons, a multitude of sound effects can be achieved in real time.

Kid’s Drum-able Desk

This brilliantly colored table by designer Carlos Pendas is a whimsical kid’s desk that uses tensed fabric as a surface rather than an ordinary hard top. The stretched fabric also doubles as a drum for an added touch of fun and interaction. Hangoo’s simple assembly can be completed in minutes and is so easy that even kids can participate in the process. Using stretched fabric reduces the overall weight, and a minimal amount of components means this design is cost efficient in both material and shipment.

The Ecotoy

The AEMU Ecotoy reimagines the portable gaming system as an eco-friendly, educational, and psychologically developmental tool that encourages the child to rely on renewable energy to power the unit. The AEMU can accumulate electricity through it’s included solar panels, a wind turbine driven generator, or even by simply rolling it down the sidewalk. The gaming interface utilizes evolving personalized profiles suited to the individual child to promote not only fun electronic gaming, but an environmentally educational experience.

A Light with a Story

When I was a kid there were always 2 things I needed to get to sleep: a bedtime story, and a nightlight. The Story Tent Light by Hong Ying Guo combines both into an interactive tent shaped projector, reminiscent of the forts and tents we all constructed growing up. By rotating the top section the Story Tent projects sequential light images through interchangeable frames to tell a brief animated story. This active design encourages using the imagination and provides tranquil light for a peaceful sleep; something both parents and children can enjoy together.

All Children Go To Space

The following project is at once a special huggy friend and a spaceship. Sounds like a childlike dream or space fantasy! Turns out that’s exactly what it is. This project is called “A Friend From Space” and it’s essentially a very fabulously crafted cushion that can fold up to become either a loving buddy or a spaceship from mars. Take a look at the cuteness and marvel at the simple engineering and fantastic skill needed to create such a kid masterpiece.

Softness for Child Sitting

Here’s a project consisting of three different bits of children’s furniture, each of them able to not only accommodate the child’s sitting, playing, and laying, it can also contain a whole batch of toys inside! Each of these bits of furniture is made of light foam so that the kids cannot hurt themselves whilst playing, and leatherette which is eco friendly false leather. Each of the furniture bits can be cleaned easily, and the color schemes are what the designers call “sober.” I must agree.

Each of these soft creatures, part of the “Soft Gang,” has a complete lack of facial features, no ears, no hair, none of that – allowing then the child’s imagination to run wild. One of the designers, Luiza Kwiatkowska, suggests they might be seen as a rabbit, a horse, and a fish! All are lovely.
