Laser Cut and Special iPhone Dock

11:19 pm in Iphone by Radhika-Seth

The iPhone Pit Stop is not so much about innovation; I mean we have seen similar charging stations in the market. What makes the project stand out is its “demandufacture” philosophy and unique production. Place an order with Ponoko and they laser cut and ship a flat-pack unit right to ya. You need to punch out the parts from the Bamboo sheet and assemble it yourself. The process eliminates expensive tooling costs and packaging with the savings passed on to you. A very clever idea indeed!

Nickolas says that the manufacturing takes place at the nearest Ponoko facility to the end buyer, so that it gets shipped locally.

The iEveryting Stand

3:44 pm in Iphone, Ipod by Radhika-Seth

iMac – check; iPhone – check; iPad – check; iPod – check; looks like anything prefixed with an “i” has found its way to my desk and to organize them is thePolyply. Technically Andrew Kim should be calling it the iPoly, but never mind! The stand holds iEverything in a manner that makes it easy to charge and orient as secondary (and subsequent) displays. I love the way the keyboard can be teamed up with the iPad in the forefront and the iMac in the background.

This particular stand was constructed out of acrylate polymer (acrylic plastic), birch plywood & birch. It holds an iPad, iPod Classic, iPhone 4 and a stylus.

iPhone Serpent Round My Neck

4:42 pm in Iphone by Radhika-Seth

The Vyne is quite an elaborate iPhone Stand, in fact I think its one of the most obvious ones I’ve seen. It has a flexible strap that coils into various forms… going round your neck like a snake charmer’s serpent to sitting pretty on your desk. The flexible elastomer neck and plastic clip secure your phone into place. Good for when you want to watch some videos on the phone. However, don’t even try using it while walking!

Fancy Colors and an Icon

5:57 pm in Iphone by Radhika-Seth

The antenna issue of the iPhone 4 is legendary and making light of the situation is the Icon iPhone Case with its not-so-subtle antenna extension! On second thoughts it’s a stark reminder of those bulky phones we used to use. Anyways if the icon doesn’t catch your fancy, you can splurge on the colorful hues of the Iro Cases. Incidentally Iro means “color” in Japanese and love the taxi version!

The Icon case is made with premium quality silicone, and comes with free protectors and the Iro cases crafted with high quality polycarbonate and feature UV coating for extra protection. Both the cases will be available by this year-end. I’m booking mine now!

ICONICSTAND, This is Not Shop Class

12:34 am in Iphone by Long Tran

In Seoul Korea a small studio called O’LIVEFACTORY is carving out a niche in the market. The brain child, one Kenny Cho, who nearly gave up ID, decided to return to his boyhood dream of designing products in his early retirement. Operating on sustainable practices, their first product is the ICONICSTAND, a desktop iPhone 4 stand made of birch, jointed for landscape and portrait viewing. There’s an option to customize your own icon should the stock ones not suite your fancy. This is a poignant reminder, never give up on your dream.

Favorite Mobile News Reader, The Flud

4:20 pm in Iphone by Long Tran

Its slick interface has the media gushing so we decided to give it a go. There’s a diverse collection of content already featured in the Flud ecosystem. Each one you subscribe to gets its own panel and regardless of said content’s CSS, the Flud app overrides it with its utilitarian, yet visually engaging interface. Want it? Act fast because it’s free to download both on the iPhone and iPad for a limited time. Android user? Don’t feel left out. Hit the jump and I’ll tell you a secret…

It’s coming to Android! Not only that but expect some awesome updates to the iPhone version like Google Reader syncing and proper categorization. Flud has become our favorite way to keep tabs on our friends already in the ecosystem, e.g. Gizmodo, Notcot and Fubiz. Question is when will Yanko Design get all up in that? Any of you already using Flud?

This Phone Hovers in Space

4:10 pm in Iphone, Ipod by Chris-Burns

Oh so you’re not satisfied with phones that connect at speeds almost as fast as you can click and hundreds of new applications that do everything under the sun each day? Well here’s something new for you then! It’s a concept design done by two industrious folks In-oh Yoo and Sun-woong Oh who want nothing more than to bring you a phone that spins in mid-air. This phone works in tangent with its charging cradle, its cradle, the phone and magnets creating a space where the phone spins while charging, creating a unique aesthetic experience.

First, the phone itself has a sleek candybar design you should all be relatively familiar with. The iPhone and a slew of Android-based phones look right along these lines, and this looks fabulous. Hollow parts at the top and bottom of the phone “ensure that it is being charged wirelessly” though how that’s accomplished appears to be a trade secret. The phone is thin, streamlined, and made to fit naturally in the palm of your hand.

Once the phone is placed in its cradle, the magnets inside begin to do their work. Once charging begins, the magnetic stick is puled away from the column and the phone floats. As the phone begins to float, the screen of the phone turns to a pre-selected screen of the users choice, one of several scenes: water gradually rising or falling or blue sand in an hourglass, for example. As most cellphones are charged at night, a dim light is emitted from the back of the charge unit for a unique atmosphere (and a simple way for you to be able to find the phone if you’ve got to get to it in the dark.)

When a call comes in, things get REAL interesting. Magnets on the bottom of the cradle activate, forcing the phone to rotate. Text and icon activation on the screen of the phone appear three-dimensional “due to an after-image effect.” This situation also occurs upon receiving a text message or your alarm clock rings. The designers of this project aim for this effect to convey vibrancy which cannot be experienced with a static screen, and vitality through animated graphics on the screen as the phone rotates as well.

What a wild and wacky and fantastical concept!
