Rockin Socket

4:02 pm in Electricity, Home by Troy Turner

Earlier today I was tearing apart my office looking for an extension cord (unsuccessfully). If only I had this wall socket design by Nguyen Tuan Anh. The primary feature is an integrated extension cord that allows the user to easily pull and return the plug to the wall. This unique universal socket caters to travelers, gadget-lovers, and home owners alike, making power conversion easier, intuitive and definitely more convenient. This is thinking outside the box at its best!

Digitalized Evergreen Home

8:35 pm in Architecture, Home by Radhika-Seth

E Home concept is a two part series by designers Jeiyong Chun & Hyunjune Yang where they bring forth their ideas of maintaining a well balanced home environment with sufficient greenery to keep the atmosphere cheery and fresh.

Home, Green Home by Jeiyong Chun consists of a family of five modular units (two green towers, one green wall, one green floor and one green stand) that are sustained by SDPCS. In other words a Smart Digital Plant Care System nurtures the plants with the help of a digitally empowered environment.

Hyunjune Yang’s D’Nature is more about a digital walk in the park; I suppose this simulated greenery is more suitable to Google’s office than a house. The good thing about both the concepts is the inclusion of a green space, which is slowly diluting due to rapid urbanization.

Sticky Voice on the Wall

8:24 pm in Home by Radhika-Seth

Record me is an ingenious way to pass on messages and stay in touch with busy family members. Most of us have adopted the sticky-note-on-the-fridge routine; Record me changes this to a voice message that can be easily recorded and played back. The video explains the procedure and I think it is a clever way to stay in touch, I mean I’d much rather listen to my son speak than decipher his scrawny note!

Window Gardens

4:03 pm in Garden, Home, Plant by Troy Turner

I’m not a huge fan of voronoi patterns, but I think the randomness works really well for this modern, one-of-a-kind window design. The Plant Window is constructed of a number of planter boxes that together create a natural curtain that filters sunlight. Simply plant your favorite succulent or veggies to transform what would be an ordinary window into a wall of green and sunlight.

Manga Art Handles

4:01 pm in Home by Troy Turner

If you’re familiar with Manga art then you know that the stylistically angular shapes and bold expressions, particularly of the eyes, make it instantly recognizable. The Mangake and Mangaka doorhandles were inspired by the form of the distinct eye shape, and reflect the elegance and beauty of the popular Japanese art.

Modern Frangrance Holder

4:01 pm in decor, Home, Home Accessories by Troy Turner

When I think of potpourri I can’t help but think of decorative wooden bowls and sheer fabric sachets in country houses, but this potpourri vessel puts an industrial twist on the classic with steel mesh sides and supporting cedar obelisks. The pours mesh gently holds dried flowers, fruit, and other plant material and the shape mimics the movement of the scent as it is released into the atmosphere. Own one of two sizes here.

Pure Recycling

4:01 pm in Green, Home by Troy Turner

Designer Maro has thought of everything with this design. The Vita Recycle Bin uses color, shape, & texture to encourage users to divide their waste properly. The removable internal container system eliminates the use of plastic bags as well as the need to mobilize the entire container. Proportions are modeled not only for visual & material minimalism, but also to suit users who would otherwise have trouble reaching the opening. Flat-pack ready & easy to assemble/disassemble, the Vita has got all the bases covered.

The Tamagotchi Effect

4:03 pm in Electricity, Green, Home by Troy Turner

This clever device, called PowerPlant, gives users a visual (and organic) reward for using less energy at home. Wireless transmitters fitted to the main power and water supplies regulate the amount of water the plant receives- the less energy used, the more regular watering the plant receives! The emotional link people have to the living plant (AKA the Tamagotchi effect) is sure to motivate awareness of their individual carbon footprints and help them track their environmental progress.

As for the device itself, it’s constructed of 80% recycled and reclaimed material.
