If Decepticons Had Furniture

3:01 pm in Furniture, Storage by Troy Turner

Inspired by the Transformer’s Allspark, the Perceptor cabinet combines modern art and interior furnishing into a one-off piece that will grab your attention and keep it. Playful lines and angular, surrealist graphics play with the viewer’s perception, making it almost unrecognizable as a place for storage. It can be a little hard to process when you first see it, but after a while it really grows on you!

The Modern Milking Stool

10:54 pm in Furniture, Seating, Stool by Troy Turner

“All the really good ideas I ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.” Inspired by the artist Grant Wood’s famous quote, the Milking Stool has all the trappings of a really good idea. The stool is simple, however unique with its contrasted tones of cork and ply, as well as its additional smart strip of bright stainless steel that belts the whole thing together like a ribbon. Lightweight, stackable, eco-friendly, recyclable, and visually charming… what more could you ask for?!

Chairs in Love

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating by Troy Turner

Seattoo is a set of two identical seats that can be nested together in an unusual, interactive way. Like puzzle pieces, the two seats interlock sideways by simply pushing one into the other. Made of solid steel, each is independently strong enough to support a person by itself

Seattoo is a winner of the 2011 red dot product design award.

A Holy Lamp for Lovers of Illusion

4:00 pm in Furniture, Lamp, Light, Lighting, Living, Odd, Strange by Chris-Burns

Created with just an LED strip, a ring diffuser, a power source and a mirror on a bit of back support, this is Aureole, a unique lighting solution. You’ll find that what you’ve got here is a halo of light, made whole by the mirror that sits behind a crescent of LEDs. Hang a series of these on your wall and have a lineup of holy rollers in the making.

Ever want to wake up each morning and feel like an angel? Yuxin Han has the solution for you. Of course the Aureole isn’t made specifically for you lovers of the circlet of godly presence, but it does have a rather pointed nickname: “Jesus Lamp.”

And what’s more, this design isn’t just looking great when its all constructed – the components come in such flat pieces that you’d potentially be able to mail this whole project in a flat manilla envelope! That said, you probably wont want to because glass is breakable: USPS won’t like that!

A Carpet of Stones for the Sure of Foot

4:00 pm in Furniture, Home, Living, Living Room, Natural by Chris-Burns

Designer Neora Zigler presents a carpet which is at once quite light in appearance but physically heavy to lift. Inside two layers of synthetic fabric are individually sewn stone pebbles, each of them hand-picked to create a bumpy platform for those that want to learn to think before they step. A sense of calm in your heart should arise should you get across this project safely.

The object of this carpet is to not necessarily hurt the person stepping upon it, but to make them consider each step as they take it. Should you have control over your feet and your body while traversing the Pebbles Carpet, you’ll have a soothing massage of sorts to boot.

Mod Pod Rocker

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating by Troy Turner

Charly Molinelli describes his Bangulella chair as “just another rocking chair,” but clearly it’s anything but!  Reminiscent of Arne Jacobsen’s famous Egg chair, the Bangulella is a high-concept redesign that brings a touch of retro-futurism to the modern rocker.

Danish Done Right

3:01 pm in Coffee Table, Furniture, Seating by Troy Turner

The Danish Living series of furniture by addinterior merges modern design and traditional craftsmanship into unique individual pieces. I’m especially liking the coat rack- a minimal design consisting of just 6 ash wood poles held together by a solid aluminum ring. Capable of complimenting a variety of tastes and styles, each element will look great alone or as a cohesive collection.

Upcycled Vintage Automotive turned Furniture

4:00 pm in Furniture, Lamp, Lighting, Lights, Living by Chris-Burns

There’s nothing quite like a good Steampunk project to get your engine revving – unless of course you’ve got a bunch of car and motorcycle parts lying around and can go the extra mile. Upcycling is one of the most awesome ways to express your love for using things twice, and with fantastically lovely looking vehicle parts like this, furniture pieces never looked so hardcore! Classified Moto brings you their own unique take on the current state of industrial auto furniture and accessories here.

This collection of pieces comes from Classified Moto’s extended collection of real usable and for-sale works meant to impress both you and any car-loving guests you might have pop over for a drink. Transmission gears, Japanese motorcycle bits, and more springs than the junkyard knew what to do with – that’s what you’ll be getting here. Have a peek at a few of the group’s newest amalgamations!

Perfectly Green Humidification

4:00 pm in Furniture, Green, Home, Living by Chris-Burns

There’s a brand new way to humidify your room, and it comes in a rather green looking – and acting – product from Wonsang Lee. This design takes first a simple white bucket and a green handle and rim, adds a sort of sprout-like pod which sits at the top of the water inside the bucket. The pod converts the water it sits on into steam as it moves downward through its supply – and it’s simple as that!

Of course there are other value added elements to this equation such as the meaning of the actual product name: seçac Humidifier. The first of two words there is pronounced sessak and means “sprout” in Korean – and the shape of the pod in the humidifier is derived from a tulip bud – cute!

Work Your Bod at Work

3:01 pm in Furniture, Seating by Troy Turner

The Bounce chair is the result of designer Pedro Gomes’ belief that product design should not only reflect aesthetic uniqueness, but also provide improvement to the human condition.  Adopting the functionality of the pilates ball, the chair promotes constant movement and balance, strengethening the user’s core while they work!
