A Hanger Fit for James Bond

4:21 pm in Fashion by Troy Turner

I love a design that makes you go “why didn’t I think of that?!” … and this is certainly one of them. The Pliable Coat Hanger (which is small enough to fit in your pocket) expands from a mere 7 cm to 40 in just one easy motion. Super-compact and made of durable, lightweight aluminum, it’s the first truly travel-friendly hanger I’ve seen!

Atomic Number 22

3:03 pm in Fashion by Troy Turner

There’s something delicate about the word “bracelet” – that is, until you see the Armadillo: 161, the latest from bold jewelry maker RogueDZN. Named after its 161 parts, the Armadillo is composed entirely of G5 aerospace grade titanium- the same super strong material used to build spacecraft, naval ships, and armor plating. Using the same software used to create the USA’s F22 joint strike fighter, each curve is obsessively perfected in 3D space, a feat impossible to achieve by hand.

Individually serial numbered, each link is comprised of 8 separate custom machined pieces. The off-set angled clasp has a captured thumbscrew that allows for extremely easy opening and closing. The secondary thumb screws integrated into the latch, are actually integrated mini-wrenches to adjust the bracelet. One is the Rogue custom tri-blade wrench and the other is a T5-Torx wrench.

FINALLY! A Flat Pack Mannequin

3:03 pm in Fashion by Troy Turner

Besides chuckling every time I see a naked mannequin, I wonder, “where the heck does anyone have room to keep those awkward things?” Industrial design hot house, Arash and Kelly Studio, saw the potential for improvement, so they developed ZiPP, a flat pack, zip-able mannequin that provides a low cost, no bulk solution for displaying items. The bust, waist, & full length figures are made of lightweight, semitransparent polypropelene; perfect for trade shows, new launches, or retail window displays.

Biodegradable Footwear

3:01 pm in Fashion, Green by Troy Turner

For those looking to put a little eco-friendliness in their step, the OneMoment shoe by Figtree Factory Studios offers comfort and modern style in this 100% biodegradable unisex slipper. Utilizing a bio-polymer injection process, the biodegradable plastic sole is only 2 mm thick (at least 3 mm less than traditional shoes) and the top portion is only 1mm thick. It only takes 6 months in the ground before 01M is 80% composted, so if they ever wear out you can guiltlessly leave them behind. Did I mention they’re only 5 euros per pair?

Moire Seconds

3:01 pm in Fashion by Troy Turner

This watch concept by designer Zoltan B. Kecskemeti gets it’s name from the moire animation style that it uses to create the illusion that the image on the face is changing. The mask replaces the second hand and gradually reveals different parts of the clock face as time passes. Clock faces come in the form of a blinking kitty, roman to arabic numerals, or my personal favorite- the beating heart.

Just Do It, Yourself

4:03 pm in Fashion by Troy Turner

The Creo Shoe Concept focuses on user integration by allowing the wearer to become a part of the production process.  The footbeds, shoelaces, outer soles, and sewing pattern are sent to the user in a leather envelope that doubles as the inner part of the shoe. I am all for anything DIY or that supports local commerce and I love that the wearer can stitch the inner shoe themselves or hand it over to a local shoemaker for tailoring. The Creo’s real value is knowing exactly where it came from.

The Creo Shoe Concept is a 2011 IF concept design entry.

Analog Watch of Wonderful Halfness

4:03 pm in Fashion by Chris-Burns

So you like to call yourself a wristwatch connoisseur, eh? You feel like you’ve seen it all, you hang out on Yanko Design all the time, you know every watch from concept to reality, everything from digital to ethereal, you’ve set your eyeballs on everything! Well wait a second, did you say you’ve dismissed analog watches? Let me change your mind real quick. This is KOKO MUO, a watch in either all silver or black and silver, a simplistic watch that’s got greatness going on in it with only half a face.

Experience the power of negative space. It’s a common misconception that a graphic design is one who fills up all the space he or she is given, that being the greatest use of the entire canvas. Nay, I say nay, this is the job of the graphic designer: to utilize the space in a way that gives magical powers to the bits he or she has to place upon it. That’s what the industrial designer has done here, in this watch. Well played, Löytö Esineiden, well played.

Watches that Won The Red Dot!

6:42 pm in Fashion by Radhika-Seth

Red Dot Concept Design has this niche category called Fashion and the projects seen here range from shoes to backpacks to watches. So what in the future for wrist bling? It’s a diamond encrusted digital edition and an eccentric analogue beauty! Hit the jump to find out more.

Eye of the Storm by Qian Yiran

The Eye of the Storm as you’ve guessed, takes its inspiration from the calm center of a destructive storm. It displays the time at the flick of a button and is otherwise a faceless clock.

OZO Watch by Anton Repponen

OZO is quite a cool looking watch. It displays time via two dials, the hours on the top and minutes in the bottom, both of which rotate at a constant pace. The time is read through the hourglass icon situated plum in the centre of the watch face.

Freflex by Lowey Lee

Freflex is a watch that takes advantage of nanotechnology and solar energy. The energy is stored in carbon nanotubes (a paper battery) at the base, which powers the components and the bendable OLED display. A protective thin plastic sheet (tinted to a dark shade and given a polyurethane coating to make it scratch resistant) encases the body. This is attached to a highly stretchable polyurethane band using ultrasonic welding, doing away with the need for buckles and snap-locks. The watch is flexible and can withstand shocks if dropped.

F-Moments by Kiran Pal Sagoo

F-Moments or Fluid Moments uses electroactive polymer (EAP) to create soft, organic needles that display the time. Normally the watch sports a transparent and invisible face, but a simple tap on it “wakes” it up to display the current time as fluid mounds that resemble clock-hands.

Decadent Highback Chair in Black and White

5:00 pm in Chairs & Bar Stools, Decorating, Design, Fashion, Flair, Furniture, Living Room, White by John

This decadent piece of furniture is called "Deco" featuring a great black and white upholstery pattern that dresses up a room and adds a touch of being more formal. Where most furniture is moving toward function and usage, Deco hearkens back to a time where flair and fashion superseded function. More information: here.
