DSNL: Day Shade Doubles as Night Light

10:47 am in Design, Eco Friendly, Lamps, Lamps & Lighting, Modern Design, Outdoor Furniture, Patio & Outdoor Furniture, Solar Power by chris

The DSNL is not some sort of brand new type of faster Internet connection. It is instead a concept that combines two devices you could use around the house: a day shade and a night light. That's what DSNL stands for actually: day shade and night light. As you can see in the images below the DSNL acts as a Day Shade during the day and while shading you from the sun it also harvests the sun's energy thanks to those solar panels on top. Then, at night it becomes a Night Light that will use the energy stored during the day to shed light on your late-night work-related activities, and not only. The DSNL uses OLEDs to offer you that precious, eco-friendly light so each solar charge could last for quite a while. Are you already thinking about ordering a DSNL for yourself? Via Yanko Design

Modern Washing Machine Concept Sits Right Inside the Closet

10:44 am in Design, Eco Friendly, Furniture, Home Appliances, Modern Design by chris

We showed you plenty of home appliances so far, including various washing machines concepts but they were not like this one. This modern washing machine concept is made for the busy professional that requires utmost efficiency. The washing machine will be installed right inside your closet and that's where you will deposit your dirty shirts in the evening only to find them clean and fresh waiting for you in the morning. The washing machine uses humidity, ionization, ozone and air pressure to do away with all the dirt and thus you'll have clean clothes to wear right from your closet, without you having to drop off and pick up dry cleaning on your way to and from work. The question is, what happens with all the dirt and bacteria that get removed from your clothes? Via Yanko Design

Coral Lamp is Eco-Friendly to the Max But There’s No Nemo and Dory Around

1:11 am in Eco Friendly, Lamp, Lamps & Lighting, Lights by chris

We have recently shown you a concept lamp based on birds made out of hands but with no actual birds in it and today we found a Coral Lamp, a lighting solution that will remind you about the beauty of the ocean and the endangered species the corals can offer housing to. But, just like with the Birds in Hand lamp design that lacked any birds, there's no actual fish shape here either. The Coral Lamp is made of glass and comes with solar panels on board capable of harvesting precious energy from the Sun that will make them glow at night in pretty colors. I bet this soothing light would surely attract Nemo's, but mostly Dory's attention as it's not every day that we get to see a lit up, eco-friendly coral that doesn't have ulterior motives, do we?. Recycled Rubber Stool From h220430

11:21 pm in Chairs & Bar Stools, Eco Friendly, Recycled Furniture, Seats, Stools by Tanya

Rubber as a material for high end furniture hardly aspires confidence but that is certainly not the case with the Rubber Stool. Designed by Japanese studio h220430, the stool has been made entirely of recycled rubber and no you won't be subjected to the smells of burnt tires. There is also no doubt that rubber as a material also brings to the vanguard a rare flexibility which is displayed clearly in the Rubber Stool. The stool can be shaped or bended in any shape and when not in use can just be rolled up to save space. The Rubber Stool demonstrates how intelligent design and radical thinking is seeping in the consumer market as well and recycling is not just a trend and is gaining a strong foothold in every aspect of design.

Cinepolis Headquarters Office Lives on the Edge Of Another Building

5:15 am in Architecture, Design, Eco Friendly, office by chris

Every once in a while we spot an out of the ordinary building that simply has to be shared with anyone passionate about architecture and design. This time around we found the Cinepolis Headquarters in Mexico, an office building that sits on top of a different building that acts as a base. But as you can see in the images below, saying the Cinepolis Headquarters rests on another building isn't enough to describe this brilliant design. The office is apparently one of the largest cantilevered buildings in the world, and although it doesn't look like the safest working environment, it will not tip over. The Cinepolis Headquarters would also make a great home, and if you sit on the required cash to build one you should definitely contact KMD Architects, which happen to be the creators of this eco-friendly establishment. A modern kitchen definitely needs a dishwasher close by, just in case your daily dose of dirty dishes is just a little over what you can handle. You don't have to use this particular home appliance all the time, but whenever you'll throw a party or have a family lunch, you'll definitely appreciate its existence. And the more energy efficient your dishwasher really is the more you will use it. Miele and Baumatic are two companies that have two new eco-friendly washing machines. The new Miele EcoLine G5000 series dishwashers consume 2.65 gallons of water and 0.59-0.94 kWh or power. The Baumatic Ombra Collection OMBRA4SS uses 2.11 gallons of water per cycle and comes with a unique oven-like design meant to match the rest of your modern kitchen. The Dialum Task Lamp is powered by 12 eco-friendly white LEDs and they'll be more than enough to brighten your room, or work space at night.
