Different Colored Chairs: Love this Look?

11:50 pm in Dining Chairs by Katie

There’s a lot going on with these chairs. There’s the same chairs in all different colors and all different chairs in all different colors. I thought about throwing in an image or two with different chairs in the same colors but that was a little too much for me!

So instead let’s just focus on the different color idea here. Could you do it? Are you daring and color-loving enough to do a mish-mosh of color at your dining table? Or are you more of an orderly person that prefers all of their dining chairs to match?

There’s a less intense options for this look with subdued colors as the first table with the Eames chairs, rather than bright and vibrant chairs that are almost neon. Another option is to mix three neutral chairs with three different colored chairs for more of a balance.

When it comes to dining chairs of all different colors – do you love this look? Which way do you prefer?

Card Chairs

In case you were wondering what would could possibly make your poker nights a bit more interesting you should look no further then card chairs. In bold colors of red and yellow and with images of King of Diamonds, King of Spades, Queen of Hearts and Jack of Clubs (design is featured on both the front and the back of the chair) these might not be the comfiest chairs around but they do make a statement.

Guitar Chair

Created by MetzFunctionalArt and available on Etsy this guitar swivel chair is custom made to resemble Gibson Les Paul guitar. It is made from dry Russian birch and has been lacquered with 20 coats for a high gloss finish. Did I mention it also swivels? Yes it does. Ideally suited for any Keith Richards wannabes. Or alternatively if you just want to add an interesting focal point to your living room.

Bug Chair

Do you like bugs? Well sorry for asking but some people do. Some people even - gasp - collect them! But I digress. Bugchairs have been inspired by Googie architecture, Schwinn bikes from the 60s, vintage auto upholstery, Retro futurism movement and Eames bent wood furniture (and not necessarily in that particular order). The Bug chairs are custom made on a thick plywood base with tuck and roll style marine grade vinyl over automotive grade foam .Bug chairs can also be made in the color of your choice. These are sturdy, bright and are sure to make a statement. And on a definite plus side - they are nowhere near as gross as one would think.

Roll Off Office Chair

If you are looking for a new office chair this might be a contender. Given you might want to put a cushion on it just to make it a bit easier on your back but it does certainly make for an interesting spin on the traditional office chair design. Made from birch and with natural wood finish it also features decorated seating and wheels at the base. I honestly do not know how comfortable (or uncomfortable) this chair might be so it would be a safer to have a consult with your chiropractor beforehand.

Rocker Rocking Chair

Lets face it - rocking chair do conjure a certain image. Of mums snuggling their babies before they lull them to sleep or nosey old ladies sitting on the porch watching the world go by (read - spying on their neighbors). Who would have thought a rocking chair could look so cool? Or bright? Or simply ingenious? These Rocker Rocking chair has been handmade from more then 300 pieces of recycled material which makes it eco-friendly too. So if you are looking for something for your porch (and to give your neighbors something to gossip about) Rocker Rocking chair just might be it.

Porsche 997 GT3 RS Office chair

If you ever harbored ambitions to become a race car driver then this office chair just might be it. If you ever wanted to own a Porsche (or a Ferrari or a Maserati) but it was just out of your price range this office chair just might be it. Porsche 997 GT3 RS Office chair features Porsche seat from a car that was delivered from Posche's factory in Germany for a professional racing team. The seat was removed immediately since the car was fitted with a one piece racing shell. It features extra shoulder support, it is tilted from the base and the rear seat back tilt can be adjusted with the help of a wall power adapter. You can have it painted to match your office decor. The price point of $4.499.99 still might be steep but it is definitely less expensive then a Porsche (tires, trimmings and seats included).

The Clutch Chair

Created and made by Scott Jarvie The Clutch Chair is «an exploratory research piece that passes comment on our disposable culture.» This particular piece was selected as Curator's choice at the Noise Festival 2008 and it is made from more then 10.000 straws. Given it does not look too comfortable, not to mention it does not have a leg to stand on (quite literally) but it does make for an interesting concept.

Lockheed Lounge

Lockheed Lounge was created in 1986 and designed by Marc Newson. In 2007 it was set to be auctioned off at Christie's, London for a sum between $ 1.6m and $2.4m making it the world's most expensive chair. It is all about the fluid aluminum form (for whatever that might be - more fugly aluminum form from where I'm standing). For that amount of money one would at least expect good back support, some cushion for the tush and not to slide off at any given moment. But in February of 2009 world got the new most expensive chair - an armchair belonging to the late French designer Yves Saint Laurent, it is called the Dragons chair and it was made by Irish designer Eileen Gray at the beginning of 20th century. It was auctioned off at Christie's for $27.8m. Just look at it - it looks so much more comfortable AND it has a cushion for the tush!

Ghost Chair

To the naked eye this might look like bog standard, regular old plastic chair. Clear plastic natch but plastic all the same. Ghost chair was created by Design Drift in Netherlands and although the manufacturers plan to produce a limited edition eight set of chairs, currently it is only a concept model. It uses 3D computer technology and if you are wondering how the Ghost within the chair is even possible it is made from millions of air bubbles. When light reflects on the bubbles you get the Ghost. Love the sleek, modern design and even though it is a Ghost chair is nowhere near as creepy as the next item on the list.

Sheep Chair

I do not know who made this chair nor do I know how it was made (and I honestly do not want to know) but this is wrong on so many levels. And it's giving me the heeby jeebies.

Reccos Chairs

Designed by the Suzukike Group for the World Cup in Germany in 2006 Reccos chair will not look out of place for 2010 World Cup since it is made from the inside of the soccer ball. Suzukike Group made a whole line of soccer chairs but I find this colorful one most eye catching.

Prickly Pair Chairs

Yes these chairs actually look like cacti. And what is even better - you don't have to water these ones at all! Created by Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers for the Designersblock at the Milan Design week in 2009 they are meant to represent a juxtaposition of European and Mexican aesthetics (a combination of classical French Rococo chair with the Nopal cactus which is featured on the Mexican national shield). While I love the bright, eye popping colors and the shape, the prickly bits sticking out everywhere do look at tad bit uncomfortable.

Surreal Minimalism Rocker Chair

This has got to be the most unusual take on office furniture I have ever seen. Created by David Pompa the collection is called Surreal Minimalism and it consists out of 8 different upholstered seats and metal bases for you to mix and match and create a whole new chair for your working space. Pompa created this collection during his MA course at Kingston University, London.

The 4000 AOL CD Chair

Created by Stupidco. the 4000 AOL CD chair took 3 months to complete. As designers themselves say «It contains 4000 CDs, weighs at least 150 pounds, barely fits through doors, and plugs into an electrical outlet». All of the materials used for the making of this chair can be found at your local Office Depot, Sears and Target and there is a detailed instruction on how to built this throne on the creators website (if you fancy a DIY project). The base is made from 2 cedar crosses with 2250 CDs (and that is just the base). Seat and arms are also made with wooden base and some 200 CDs glued together and reinforced with a steel bar. Same with the back. Cathode lights are used for illumination. No wonder this chair is over 150 pounds.

Rocking Chair

Another chair that is only a concept at the moment is this creation by Mathias Koehler. Rocking chair does have an unusual futuristic look but it does not look particularly safe I have to say. The reading lamp is a great touch however knowing myself and how clumsy I am I would probably spend more time picking myself off the floor then actually reading a book.

The Peg Chair

The Peg Chair was created by Finn Stone, maker of creative contemporary fibre-glass furniture from UK. Some of the company's products are available at the Conran shop in the UK. The Peg chair is also made from fiber glass and available in a choice of colors to suit your decor. The inspiration behind the design was nature (believe it or not) - like seeds falling to the ground and then growing into plants, Finn Stone tried to imagine what would happen if all the clothes pegs that can be found in English gardens over the summer grew into a bigger version of themselves.

Transformable Jacket/Armchair

One would imagine this armchair would come in quite handy when camping. And it does look a tad more comfortable then a regular fishing stool. Made by C. P. Company (an Italian clothing manufacturer) and designed by Moreno Ferrari it is a bright blue polyurethane inflatable jacket that turns into an armchair. It is waterproof, has magnetic buttons and comes with air compressor. Other products from the Transformable range include waistcoat that turns into a cushion, parka that turns into an inflatable mattress and cloak that turns into a tent.

Zaisu Chairs : Dining Furniture in Traditional Japanese Sitting Style

4:00 am in Chairs, Dining Chairs, Dining Room Furniture, Dining Tables, Furnishings, Furniture, Traditional, Zen by John

Zaisu chairs are a floor sitting piece of furniture that came into style in Japan during the Muromachi period. During that period of architecture floors were covered in thick straw mats known as “tatami”. The ruling warrior class created strict rules about living daily lives which brought on the sitting posture called “seiza” as it was deemed the respectful way to sit. Now, Japanese dining furniture sets featuring Zaisu chairs are popular as families adopt traditional Japanese ways of living in an effort to improve the connection a family feels while spending time together.
