P’kolino Klick Children Desk Is Available In Bright Colors

12:41 am in Desks, Kids & Nursery Furniture by Tanya

Getting a child to study is a Herculean task (so I've heard) but maybe with the right source of inspiration it is achievable. The niftily designed P'kolino Klick Children Desk with its funky form factor may just make learning fun and inspire a child to park itself on it rather than in front of the "Idiot Box". The desk measures 17" L x 17" W x 20" H and the padded seat measures 12" H. Ideal for children from ages 3 to 7, the desk also has ample space for storing papers, books and puzzles. More importantly the desk is easy to clean and is pretty low-maintenance. One can order the P'kolino Klick Children Desk for $199 in colors like red, green and orange from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Desk E.L.A : A Floating Computer Table

4:13 am in Desk, Desks, Home Office Furniture by Tanya

Bulgarian designer Jovo Bozhinovski knows how finicky Mac users can be when it comes to design and hence has made a work-desk that will complement any Mac computer. Of course that doesn't mean that PC users cannot enjoy the goodness of the visually stunning Desk E.L.A since that would be just discrimination. The desk is made from fiberglass and has only two legs firmly placed on the ground to give an illusion of flying. Care has also been taken to make panels for cables and USB ports.

The MILK Desk : Today’s Modern Computer Workstation

11:05 pm in Desks, Home Office, Home Office Furniture, Office Furniture by Will

The MILK Desk that stands behind the concept that a desk should "hold a lot but show almost nothing" and that is all possible thanks to the internal wire ports and storage compartments of this super sleek computer workstation. The mere 55 x 25 inch provides ample work surface especially for today's smaller computer hardware, and there is even room for a sunken fish tank or potted plant to keep your mind on more visually appealing things than a computer screen. An electronically height adjustable base easily changes the aluminum frame from 28.7 to 48.4 inches and the left side offers square compartments that open on the top and bottom enabling the user to store anything from the typical office supplies, such as pen and pencils to electronics, such as an iPod. The MILK desk is the combined efforts of entrepreneur Soren Kjaer and Danish furniture manufacturer, Holmris Hansen A/S which was well received thanks to a viral web campaign that received 50k hits the first week alone.

Michigan based designer, Peter J. Pless will be exhibiting his furniture series entitled Spaces at Milan. Spaces consist of household objects that individuals have a direct contact on a daily basis and the collection is split into four categories which are intimate, personal, social and public. All objects in the exhibit are an amalgamation of style and functionality and some of our favorites from the collections are the Escritoire Computer Desk, the Prism Table, the Ripple Chair and the Visage Room Divider.

10 Super Modern Desk Designs

9:18 pm in Contemporary Office Furniture, Desks, Home Office, Home Office Furniture, Modern Furniture by Will

Is there any better place to make a style statement than at your desk? Whether it's making your home office feel like it was built just for you, or making a workplace look as forward-thinking as the company it houses, a cool looking desk makes work seem more like play.

The Arc Desk Created by Turkish designer Aziz Sariyer for Alparda, the award-winning Arc series expresses a minimal yet functional vision for office furniture. The Arc is composed of stained wood, but has the appearance of plastic --- a somewhat odd reversal of the materials' usual proxy relationship. No wasted material here, just thin, bent planes supported by a convenient drawer system hidden behind a facade that appears to defy gravity.

The Messy Desk It could pass for an Ikea "home-assembly fail" or cubist sculpture, but not a functional piece of office furniture, right? Wrong. To some, this piece may be more functional than the most perfectly assembled

Milk Desk Adapting Apple's aesthetic to a more industrial-modern context, Soren Kjaer's Milk looks like a MacBook Pro balanced atop a steel beam --- the storage slot in front even looks like a disc drive. Like Apple products, this desk is designed to make even the wired appear wireless. And the storage compartments are accessible from the top of the desk, leaving open space underneath the thin desktop.

O4i Workflow This strikingly simple integrative concept from Swedish design-house O4i brings together several pieces of office furniture into one. Appropriately titled "Workflow," the concept provides a desk, a reclined seating space and a counter top with each functionality "flowing" into the the next. It's sort of like a reverse cubicle in that it removes privacy from the work environment, encouraging collaboration on its countertop and relaxed discussion with its chair.

Max Ingrand Desk French designer and artist Max Ingrand made functional art with his furniture and lighting concepts. This piece, believed to have been produced in 1966, reminds us of (and could have possibly been inspiration for) 04i's Workflow desk. Like the Workflow, Ingrand's design wraps a single continuous form into a whole seat-inclusive workstation.

Open Room No. 1 Where Ingrand's design anticipated the future, Matali Crasset's "Open Room No.1" desk seems to look back to the dutch De Stijl art movement of the early 20th Century. You may not be able to tell from looking at it, but this jumble of monochromatic rectangular forms encompasses a desk, a cupboard, a lamp and a wastebasket. Clever, stylish, intelligent and yes, available --- this one's no gallery piece. From Established and Sons.

Cowling DC Airplane Desks Using repurposed Douglas Cowling aircraft, MotoArt has been designing and selling furniture for the last decade. But this piece isn't tacky or interest-specific like much of the repurposed heavy machinery furniture out there. The inclined cylindrical form of these desks leave only a hint of their former function, and the smooth metallic sheen of their exteriors create a cool wrap-around mirror effect. These pieces don't say "aviation-themed restaurant" anymore than they do "ultra-modern office," which is nice for those of use not running aviation-themed restaurants.

Hexa Desk Sitting on an ultra-light carbon honeycomb framework, Can Yalman's Hexa desk looks as though it could be lifted and moved across the room on single fingertip. Though the manufacturer claims the tiered desktop is meant to encourage others to sit at the desk and have their own workspace, one wonders where they would place their legs while doing so? Still, as a desk for one, this piece fits into a modern high-tech aesthetic quite beautifully.

Table of Sound Part desk, part iPod dock, the Table of Sound concept would be a more than a fun idea if you could convince us that it would be possible to get any work done on a vibrating desk. Still the modern-baroque look of the speaker set in the legs of the desk is pretty cool, and sitting at one of these would leave little question as to who the office DJ is.

The Cavour Desk by Carlo Mollino 1949

10:28 am in Contemporary Furniture, Desks, Home Office Furniture, Mid-Century Modern, Office Furniture by Will

Mid Century Modern is still one of my favorite furniture design eras for many reasons and the Cavour Desk by Carlo Mollino is a fine example of what the movement was all about. This curvaceous design sure looks ahead of its time considering its 1949 release. Mollino's philosophy "everything is permissible as long as it is fantastic" is reflected in his body of work which included architecture and furniture design. The Cavour Desk features .86" thick, plate glass top which sits atop a graceful and sculptural oak wood frame and drawer compartment. 97.2" w 29.5" h 35.4" d $12,071.00 From Hive Modern

The Architecture Inspired Desk by Paul Gribincea

6:00 pm in Architecture, Design, Desk, Desks, Furniture, Home Office, Home Office Furniture, House, Inspired, Office Desks, Office Furniture, Paul Gribincea by John

“Aero” is a desk created by designer, Paul Gribincea. When examining the shape of Areo, it follows more closely an architectural shape than that of traditional desk design. The angles do not conform to the 90 degree angles of most desk construction. Further, its simple shape doesn’t conform to the principle of providing lots of storage for files and supplies.
