A Blooming Cuppa Tea

5:39 pm in Design by Radhika-Seth

Cuptea is a delightful integration of a disposable cup and teabag packaging. Basically the cover of the teabag blooms into a beautiful disposable cup for tea. No doubt the packaging is a bit elaborate for a simple cup of chai, but I see this more from the ‘love of design’ point of view. I recently witnessed a marketing strategy for an eminent coffee brand, where they went door to door with a hot cuppa brew for select few winners. Place that kind of strategy versus this teacup kind of thoughtful brand integration. Hands down the latter makes a lasting impression.

Fusioon And The Tea Bag Story

4:08 pm in Design by Radhika-Seth

Coming from a country where tea is not so much of a ceremonial process but just a necessity of life, concepts involving the right amount of steeping and fussing amuse me no end. Adding to my list of fascinating tea stories is the Fusioon Spoon Concept, where an appropriate niche holds the green teabag for centralized dipping, so that it receives an equal amount of water from all sides. The clever design also takes care of the used bag efficiently. Maybe it’s time I acquired some international tea drinking skills, or maybe I should just stick to instant coffee!

Organic Jewelry

11:54 pm in Design by Long Tran

Concept X is a conceptual bracelet designed to create jewelry that mixes sensual organic forms with the strength of industrial, almost medical silhouettes. Its curvilinear body and undulating elements form a cincture-like cast – as if it naturally evolved there. The designers believe the evolutionary organic image fits well into modern life. They describe their project as “the re-definition of the spatial order of  jewelry”.

Shaped by the pioneering technique of CNC/SLA, the bracelet is cut and welded and then hand-finished to seal the surface and produce a dull galvanized effect.

Mouse Feel for Pressing

4:37 pm in Design by Radhika-Seth

One look at the Iron concept by Adam Wendel and it gives me the Apple Magic Mouse vibe. The smooth FOLED interface and ergonomic grip gives you a very ‘using-the-mouse’ feel. I like the fact that components have been kept to a minimum, just a ball joint, which doubles up as a water reservoir. Interestingly a standard model is also proposed, one where the FOLED screen is replaced with an intuitive knob dial.

The Obvious Turn

3:01 pm in Design by Radhika-Seth

It can’t get simpler than this! Ever so regularly my apartment block attendant comes to each floor to service the fire extinguishers and turn the canister around. Apparently they should be regularly shaken to prevent the powder inside from hardening. To make this important element obvious, the Turnover Extinguisher adopts the hourglass form, with the countdown timer, so that when the time’s up, you know instinctively to shake the extinguisher and keep it functional. No reminder needed!

Fold-out Faucet

7:06 pm in Bathroom, Design by Radhika-Seth

You can mistake the Flat-Fold to be a high-tech mirror thang in the bathroom or even a cabinet; but a faucet…most definitely not! The tap fits flush with the base of this discreet wall mount and comes with digital technology, plus a capacitive touch sensitive panel. So basically you can personalize the flow of the water and have it set to taste.

The Flat-Fold is a Recce Bathroom Innovation Awards Finalist.

Left And Right, Alright!

7:51 pm in Design by Radhika-Seth

I have been wearing contact lenses since I was in my 8th grade, so this story is too close to home and I know exactly how this design is going to help me. RLens are contacts with temperature-sensitive diagrams of “R” and “L” printed on them. The alphabets become visible when the lens is out of the eye and disappear when worn. This feature is beneficial in two ways: you will always wear the correct lens & incase you drop one; it will be easier to find it because of the visible lettering.

Half-sized Sheets of Toilet Paper

11:30 pm in Design by Long Tran

I’m a big fan of paper towels perforated into smaller sizes because not every mess demands a giant square sheet but can toilet paper benefit from the same design? HowGee looks like every other roll of toilet paper but the sheets are perforated at half-sizes. Ultimately the designers hope by letting you choose how much to use, you’ll save paper. So let’s think about what we use toilet paper for because lets be frank, not every “mess” in the bathroom demands a full-size sheet right? RIGHT?

Timely Steeping

7:23 pm in Design, Kitchen by Radhika-Seth

I am in love with the Tea-time tea steeper for its intuitive design and simplistic interaction between tea leaves, water and steeping time! A flipping action, akin to starting the timer, sets the tea making process into action. Loose tealeaves and hot water do their steeping business and the ready tea slowly trickles down to the bottom beaker. The timer/filter hold back the leaves and your cuppa is ready to sip!

A point to note is that designer Pengtao Yu has used a spring loaded timer to keep the product low-tech and traditional.
