Analog Cooling of Interior Spaces

4:05 pm in Cool, Garden, Green by Chris-Burns

How would you like to be able to cool your house (assuming you live in a part of the world where it gets hot enough to need cooling) without the use of electricity at all, whatsoever? What if instead of using electric power to stay cool in your home all day, all you had to do was run a bit of cold water in the morning? It appears that designers Mey kahn and Boaz Kahn have transported an ancient secret into the now that’ll do just that, and with a fantastically lovely bit of interior design as a conduit.

The design we’re speaking of here is ECOoler, a sort of tile system that connects via water hose nozzles, creating a grid of essentially natural coolers that work by evaporating water. The aesthetics are brought to the project by one of the two traditional Middle-Eastern reference points used in this project: the Mashrabiya, an architectural element that acts as mediator between the inside and the outside. This takes the form of a clay or cement brick that allows air to travel in whilst continuing to keep all manner of uninvited guests out. In the ECOoler, the Mashrabiya is molded and made into a tube system that takes another important cue from a Middle-Eastern tradition: the Jara.

What the Jara is and has been for a very long time is a jug that holds cooling water that works by evaporating and seeping through the clay it is made of. Because this method is much closer to what some might call a “natural” method, you’re brought many steps further into responsibility in eco-living, allowing you to live in harmony with your environment. Lovely idea, yes?

18 Cool Modern Bathtubs from Agape

6:03 pm in Bathroom, Bathroom Design & Furniture, Cool, Decorating, Design, Furnishings, Furniture, Home, House, Modern, Relaxation, Remodeling, Tubs by John

Let's face it. Bathtubs can be one of the most important features in a home. These 18 examples from Agape are cool and modern and designed to create a luxury experience designed to restore the body's energy. The first thing that comes to mind in selecting the right tub is picking the best shape for your bathroom space. Rectangular is most popular though there are a few round examples in the article as well. Another consideration is whether it should be free-standing, attached to a wall or sunken into the floor. An Example of Cool One Story House Plans

5:00 pm in Architecture, Cool, Home, House, House Plans, Ideas by John

My first comment is that I wish I had more pictures of this project. These one story house plans feature a place to be built in Ojai, California. Ojai is a town of 8,600 people according to the 2003 census that is 33 miles from Santa Barbara and 83 miles from Los Angeles. The design features a sprawling one story approach which offers great views throughout the house. The backyard has a cool patio that highlights a shade tree in its center. Via.

The Interesting CD Wall by Coens

When do CDs become obsolete and need to serve some other purpose? Coens has championed that thought in their "CD Wall" which melds CD storage into a design idea. Each leave can be installed on a wall and then fanned like a book to allow you to get to the next page of CDs. The CD Wall makes a statement about music storage and what we may see in the future. Cool Balancing Boxes Bedside Table from Porro Furniture

5:40 pm in Art, Coffee, End & Side Tables, Cool, Decorating, Design, Furniture, Table, Tables by John

I have to say that I love this bedside table from Porro Furniture called "Balancing Boxes". It was created by the Swedish design group "Front", whose four members include Anna Lindgren, Katja Sävström, Sofia Lagerkvist and Charlotte von der Lancken. The concept of boxes providing storage and acting as a table top surface is an insightful idea. The way the boxes pivot on themselves melds both art and furniture into one statement. Cool Restaurant Design By Jan Schreiner

5:00 pm in Architecture, Color, Colors, Cool, Decorating, Design, General, New, Pink by John

By nature a new restaurant has to be hip and trendy to take us away from our favorite eateries and take our business to a new place. "Restaurant Et Cetera" is a new project created by designer Jan Schreiner. In the images provided by Jan, we can see an incredible use of colors that really create some "pop". The use of pinks blended with darker background colors create an environment that is light and intimate at the same time. Without the brighter colors, the place would be a dark room not for the trendy, but for those that want to "not be seen". More information: Jan Schreiner.

Nucleo: Where Furniture and Art Come Together in Design

5:56 pm in Art, Contemporary, Cool, Design, Exhibit, Furniture, Gallery, Home, House, Modern, Modern Furniture & Design by John

It can be said that "being primitive" takes design down to its deepest roots by breaking it down to its basic concepts. These designs come from Nucleo and feature three of their collections: Primitive, PH and Terra. Each of these themes provides a unique experience designed for both the furniture and art enthusiast.

abstract tables
artistic lighting
furniture construction

Primitive: The workmanship makes unrepeatable and unique objects: made entirely by hand without the use of presswork and finished with non-toxic resins that reveal signs and imperfections. Living Primitive elements reflect on elementary forms used by Le Corbusier to create architectural and urban space. The return to structure is a twentieth Century leit-motiv, with artistic avant-garde, from Cubism, to Abstract art, to Constructivism, Suprematism. The art is free from 'enslavement' to the subject, able to translate the motions of the human soul with the pure colour or pure form.

PH Series: Inspired by molecular structures and crystal lattices created when atoms bond to one another, PH is a pentagonal modular made in expanded polyurethane. The pentagonal shape allows an ample number of configurations by drawing closer the various sides.

Terra: Terra is not a finished product, is an idea; we provide the cardboard frame and the seeds, the main ingredient, the dirt can be found everywhere on our planet. The armchair is born in your garden and becomes part of your landscape.
Terra! is not only a grass arm-chair, is an arm-chair of the world; if you are in a desolate suburb surrounded with cement, make it out of cement, if you live in front of an American highway, make it out of asphalt, if you are in the north pole use the snow. More information: here.

The Cool Sectionimal Glass Coffee Table

7:02 pm in Coffee Tables, Coffee, End & Side Tables, Cool, Design, Furniture, Tables by John

This glass coffee table is called Sectionimal. It was created by Chilean design studio gt_2P. At first glance one can see the influence of mathematics in the table base that appears to follow a certain algorithmic progression. This is part of their parametric furniture offering created by CAD design using complex formulas. The table top is glass, but there are three options in the base that include plywood, corian and aluminum. More information: HERE.
