Witnessing first-hand the incredible amount of plastic waste he and his coworkers were using every day for their packed lunches, designer Nick Burrows was inspired to take matters into his own hands and develop an alternative solution that doesn’t just reduce plastic waste but eliminates it altogether. Twist allows you to seal/unseal your meal, microwave, and eat your meal, all with one piece of reusable silicone. Major props because, after all- prevention is the most environmentally preferable means of reducing any kind of waste.
There’s nothing quite like a steaming hot cup of coffee to start the workday- but it’s easy to neglect once you get wrapped up at your desk. The HALO heating spoon is a nifty little gadget that’ll keep your drink piping hot as long as you’d like. Intuitive controls and light/color signals make it super-easy to use. Just pop it in, switch on, and let it do the rest!
CHA-CHA is a simple, yet functional reinterpretation of the spice shaker that unlike traditional upright shakers, would rather lay down and take it easy until it’s ready to work. Now that’s a work ethic I can understand.

Dreaming of a decent kitchen in student quarters is like an irrational fantasy! Addressing this need to be able to whip up a decent meal, even though you lack the space, is this Cookease. It is a compact integrated cooking system, which contains a heater and 2 bowls. The heater works on magnetic induction and is made from silicone, while the bowls are color coated stainless steel. Much like a compact lunchbox, I’d much rather have a small setup than none.

Presented here are two projects by Sandra Haak that envisage future technologies like Polytronik to help develop her concepts. The first project is 101° Degree, which is a water boiler and the second project is GUADO, a cooking and tableware set consisting of a hibachi and unique bowls with flatware. Check out the finger-tongs that allow you to pickup bite-sized nibbles without getting your fingers dirty. So kitsch!

Welcome to a portable cooking experience like you’ve, perhaps maybe, never seen before. This is “Roll-Up”, an induction cooktop which separates induction coils and electronic circuits in order to make a very thin, very elegant solution for mobile cooking. Each coil is made small enough so that the heating part of the Roll-Up can be folded. Electronic circuits are placed in a “fancy looking hard-drive like case.” Plus – sensors!
When a pot (or other item to be heated up) is placed on the heating surface, pressure sensors in every induction coil register where the pot is sitting and only those sensors touched activate with heat.
Roll-Up was recently awarded a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design award in the category of Domestic Aid. Congratulations GB!

Designer Menno Kroezen designed the new "Kamido" all in one modern Kitchen Island for Panasonic in Osaka, Japan with Japanese style cooking in mind. The small layout of Kamido incorporates several elements such as a cook top with side vent, large sink, under counter waste compartments, and a durable modular sliding counter top that can hide or expose what you need at the various stages of the cooking process. Kroezen also paid close attention to the limited space in many Japanese homes and apartments and adapted the design for these environments. See more of the designs from Menno Kroezen here.
All good design starts with an idea and often results in a concept design that sometimes finds its way into our daily lives. Designer Alistair Messom has created a concept barbecue grill that would certainly fit right in with some of the modern patio furniture available today and I for one hope it gets put into production. Ali Messom Creative included some stunning visuals as well as quality features including powder coated sheet metal, stainless steel accents, and a nice little side table in Walnut or Oak.
