Modernitea

4:01 pm in Cooking, Dining, Kitchen by Troy Turner

The Wavy Tea Set isn’t just nice to look at- the layers and unique organic form are purposed as such that each fits naturally and comfortably in the user’s hand. The alternative “handle” design was inspired by the process of glass blowing and captures the pulling action of hot glass being formed.

Accessible Appliance

4:01 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Troy Turner

Prometheus is a multifunctional kitchen appliance aimed at giving handicapped users the experience of cooking safely at home. The unit uses magnetic induction that allows the user to change temperatures simply by repositioning metal pots. The electric current is induced in a closed circuit when the magnetic flux through the surface bounded by the conductor changes. Visual and audio cues as well as braille and embossed instructions also provide added safety and ease of use for various types of impairment.

Cooking on Time

11:49 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Long Tran

Well here’s a novel idea; an integrated timer on a pot lid called Time Me. Set exactly how long something is to simmer, boil, blanche and whatever else cookbooks tell you to do. This idea seems so obvious. If you’ve seen something similar, shoot me a link otherwise I’m going to have to call Captain Oblivious because this is most certainly a job for him. There’s no mention of what kind of “ding” the timer will make, because you know – that ding is very important. Zojirushi rice cookers hum a little diddy when they’ve completed their cook cycle. This needs something similar.

Eggs Anywhere

1:33 am in Cooking, Kitchen by Troy Turner

The ultra-portable Heater Egg Card utilizes a wire-web and thin skin that envelops the egg to reduce heating time. The casing can then be “smooshed” together to make it as thin as a credit card. Small enough to take anywhere in your wallet, purse, or other compact carrier.

Cute Wee Kitchen

4:02 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Troy Turner

Minikitchen merges several everyday domestic appliances into one compact unit that’s perfect for the small studio or bachelor pad. A vegetable washer, dishwasher, refrigerator, small pantry, oven, and two other cooking systems eliminate the need for much else in the kitchen, all while saving energy, water, and best of all- space!

Environmental Twist

4:01 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Troy Turner

Witnessing first-hand the incredible amount of plastic waste he and his coworkers were using every day for their packed lunches, designer Nick Burrows was inspired to take matters into his own hands and develop an alternative solution that doesn’t just reduce plastic waste but eliminates it altogether. Twist allows you to seal/unseal your meal, microwave, and eat your meal, all with one piece of reusable silicone. Major props because, after all- prevention is the most environmentally preferable means of reducing any kind of waste.

An Angel in the Morning

3:01 pm in Cooking, Dining by Troy Turner

There’s nothing quite like a steaming hot cup of coffee to start the workday- but it’s easy to neglect once you get wrapped up at your desk. The HALO heating spoon is a nifty little gadget that’ll keep your drink piping hot as long as you’d like. Intuitive controls and light/color signals make it super-easy to use. Just pop it in, switch on, and let it do the rest!

Lay Down Your Spice

3:01 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Troy Turner

CHA-CHA is a simple, yet functional reinterpretation of the spice shaker that unlike traditional upright shakers, would rather lay down and take it easy until it’s ready to work. Now that’s a work ethic I can understand.

Materials: stainless steel, sandblasted wood finish

Compact Cooking

7:17 pm in Cooking, Kitchen by Radhika-Seth

Dreaming of a decent kitchen in student quarters is like an irrational fantasy! Addressing this need to be able to whip up a decent meal, even though you lack the space, is this Cookease. It is a compact integrated cooking system, which contains a heater and 2 bowls. The heater works on magnetic induction and is made from silicone, while the bowls are color coated stainless steel. Much like a compact lunchbox, I’d much rather have a small setup than none.
