Have you ever noticed how you can watch a movie and see a very modern home decorated primarily with white and a splash of color and it looks so chic yet when you try to copy the look in your home it makes it feel very cold and vacant? White is a tricky color to work with but with a few helpful tips, you can bring life into your space.

1. Focal Point – You must have some WOW factor in the room that provides color. This could be a vibrant canvas, a sculpture or even a large, brightly-colored rug.
2. Eggshell and Cream – Don’t be afraid to add a hint of eggshell or cream in the room somewhere, just to create a little depth.
3. Flooring – White-washed wood, cork or a honed travertine are ideal. If you must have carpet, choose a wheat, moccasin or tan shade.
4. Metal – Chrome, copper, nickle and stainless steel will all add elegance to white and should be used in decorative accents.
5. Furniture – Keep furnishings clean with strong geometric lines. A stuffed white couch may look spectacular in a room with color but it’s just too overwhelming for a white room.

White can be a fabulous color to decorate with when used correctly. Always be sure to balance your space and any color you use other than white should ideally show up a few times, spread throughout the room but not all in one area. Bringing everything together is important in a white room because there aren’t other colors to cause a distraction if you get it wrong.

HSART by Ana Rita Sousa is a collection of found objects presented in such a manner that they be invited into the homes and lives of the viewers of the project. Instead of staying wasted on the streets, they’re given another chance in the arms of a user.

Secrets Dealer by Branca Cuvier is a project that’s all about secrets. In revealing your secrets, you become less unique, and this anti-uniqueness is what the project aims to depict.

Site-Specific Furniture by Bruno Carvalho is a project that says architecture is both architecture and design but that design is only design, and not architecture. What this project does is develop a production process that “allows the creation of furniture pieces from interior architecture forms.”

About Waste by Filipa Ricardo is a project that’s created from industrial waste – the unwanted parts pieced together to create a project. This project uses CNC waste boards and old used wool blankets to create a 6 metal axis “Made in Holland” stool.

Another Contemporary Chair by Joao Jalente is a piece of furniture about the relationship between the object and the designer. Here the chair is a self projection of designer, the shape of the shadow, a chair, now reflecting the designer literally a s mirror.

Dock Lamp by Manuel Netto is a light controlled by a precise action. Instead of clicking a switch, you move the lamp to a specific lamp, connecting the current. Each place you place the bulb, there too shall you find a light.

Spore Vase by Paulo Sellmayer is a fungi vase. In this vase a process generally thought to be a bit repulsive is made to be observed as a beautiful thing.

Bottlegged . Mesa Beira by Tiago Sas Da Costa is a re-use project based in bottles. These bottles are made into furniture, each of them coming originally from the drinks in the Netherlands, now made into the scenery in a positive way.

Does it make sense to hold a graffiti awards show? Some say no way, the whole idea of vandalism is to do your thing and never get caught! The rest say sure, why not? Have some fun, eat some snacks. Who doesn’t love snacks? Thusly, there are the Artaq Awards in both Paris and Berlin. Below you’ll find lists of artists involved in this years’ shows as well as a bigger view of one the artists involved: Matox – with live laser graffiti!

This event is known as the first EVER international Urban Arts competition. In it, artists from the most representative sects join together to showcase the evolution of all of their styles. The contest consists of six awards: Awards by category – Graffiti – Painting – Collage – Sculpture – Digital Art – Photography. In Situ Performances. The award winners will have their work shown in several galleries in Europe (this is what you’ll see below, here,) and the Artaq Bookzine will present their work and will be distributed at each of the trendy exhibition venues. One of the representative artists in this competition is Matox, and below there’s a video of his work and a couple images of his work as well. He does calligraphic works which represent no letter or number, working with layers upon layers creating fabulous “cave painting” style artworks. [His works remind me very much of [Jose Parla]

As you may already be aware, Little Thoughts Group is holding an exhibition by the name of Imprints: Designing for Memories at the National Museum of Singapore. This project (and one other we wrote yesterday, plus more) are currently up at that museum until January 11th, 2011. Take a look! Take a peek here first, of course. This project goes by the name of Kampong Cuckoo and it’s a clock of memories. It recalls the designers time as a child in 1970’s Singapore, where the sounds of growing up are now instilled inside the clocks works.

The number “5″ is mirrored in the clocks face because the designer had some mishaps with the number (and it’s a favorite!) The white wind-up key is held on with a magnet and can open the clock body from the side. Inside the clock is access to its batteries and some nice shelves.

As this clock chimes, it reveals new sounds for each impression. Recalling a childhood is as simple as counting the hours in a day:

3am : bats
4am : cricket
5am : mouse
6am : rooster
7am : wash cloth
8am : kick start ride bike to work
9am : my pets
10am : kampong games
11am : sewing machine
12pm : “ah gong” parrot

9pm : 70s TV program
