A Country Summer House on the Isle of Wight

11:20 pm in Architecture, Home Design, Homes, Interior Design by Will

Whenever the words "a place in the country" are uttered the usual reaction is to think of a large rural house with a long drive leading up to manicured lawns and finely cut hedgerows, of course, that is Jane Austin and this the real world, where most people have to make do. However, making do, does not have to mean going without, take this small country cottage for instance, it is located on the Isle of Wight, which is along the southern coast of England. The building is nothing more than a summerhouse, which is a posh name for a shed. Yet this place has style and feeling, sure, not everyone can have the lakeside location, but the building is within the reach of most people. As for the decor, what grabs the attention is the simplicity of pastel shades and a minimum of furniture that makes the most of the space that is available without overcrowding the limited floor space, it is truly a place in the country, where relaxation is the order of the day.

Solo Storage Cube Comes With Plenty of Drawers

10:18 pm in Design, Home Storage & Shelving, Storage by chris

Remembering where you put your stuff will be terribly difficult once you get yourself the Solo storage cube designed by Franck Tawema. Not only is it beautifully conceived, and thus very interesting, but this design is pretty mind-boggling too (video available after the break). With 36 strategically placed drawers you'll have a hard time getting used to your new storage setup. The Solo storage cube combines drawers of different lengths that can be the perfect solution for your storage needs. The Solo would fit perfectly with a studio that need a touch of personality but since it doesn't occupy that much space it would fit in any other kind of apartment too. And, as long as you have a great memory you could get a bunch of Solos and spread them around the house. Via YouTube

Bar Stools made from Scrap and Reclaimed Wood

9:10 am in Chairs & Bar Stools, Furniture, Home Accessories by Will

The idea of furniture made from sustainable materials is catching on fast, but as with many products that use recycled materials, they often tend to work out more expensive than the non-sustainable variety, which can be a little frustrating to say the least.
However there are alternatives and these bar stools made from off cuts of wood is prime example of how scrap materials can be made into something wonderful and practical too! The wood had been used in the furniture trade, but these pieces are left over and ordinarily would have been discarded as waste. It was a firm of architects that came up with the idea of bundling off cuts of wood together and these bundles were sanded down before filling the gaps with wood putty, followed by a coating of linseed oil before a wax sealant is applied. The design came from a challenge laid down as part of the State of Design Festival in Australia, where architects were asked to use recycled materials to make design features for a developed bar.

Kitchen Table Concept Comes With Built-in Plates

8:22 am in Dining Room Furniture, Kitchen, Kitchen Design & Furniture, Kitchen Furniture, Table by chris

The round table in the images below impressed me not only with the overall design but also with its out-of-the-box simplicity. In case you're always ready to invite your friends and family to one of your already famous meals then this table concept should come to your aid. The table's surface is actually made out of built-in (but removable) ceramic plates ready to dazzle your guests while they're in the process of experiencing your next culinary creation. Your kitchen would therefore be blessed with such a dinner table, but make sure you don't drop any of those plates when it's time to wash them. And from the looks of these pictures below, at least one functional table has been built already so we'll be waiting for it to arrive in furniture stores at some point in the future. Via Daportfolio

A Rug Made From What?

5:27 am in SixDW: A New Beginning by sf210

shoelaces-rug

I’ve seen some unique rugs in my day, but this sure has to be one of the most original. The Shoelace Rug is indeed made from shoelaces, and is the work of Nate Siverstein and Andrea Paustenbaugh. It certainly adds a unique focal point to the room and you’re sure to be the only one of your friends to have it. Maybe a bit much for a living room, but I think it could look cool under a desk in a modern office or perhaps in a small dining nook.

That dog sure looks cozy, but it might make your cats a bit crazy!

Liquid Engineering for the Modern kitchen

4:03 am in Home Accessories, Interior Design, Kitchen Accessories, Kitchen Design & Furniture by Will

The modern kitchen is full of technology these days, therefore its quite nice to find some kitchen appliances that even though they based in scientific instruments, no technology is required just a keen eye for something that looks nice while doing the job that is asked of it.

First of all there is the plant pot, this is ideal for someone who is going away, just fill the bottle up with water and the plant will still be alive upon your return its simple and yet so very effective.

The wine pourer is a brilliant piece of design that turns pouring a glass of wine into a piece of performance theater. This is the perfect center piece for a dinner party, although clearly this is limited to just four glasses at a time.

There is something about glass that creates a feeling of style and class in a room and in particular, the kitchen because it is clean and bright, but it has to be kept cleaned all of the time, otherwise it will end up looking dull and dated.
